Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has the lead federal role in managing Canada's fisheries and safeguarding its waters. The Canadian Coast Guard, a Special Operating Agency within DFO , is responsible for the programs and services that contribute to the safety, security and accessibility of Canada's waterways ...
Under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012, Environment Canada is a Federal authority which includes providing expert knowledge to other federal organizations conducting environmental assessments to assist them in anticipating, preventing, or mitigating environmental effects of a project. The role of Environment Canada also involves promoting environmental policies and programs of the Department and federal government
Provincial health departments are responsible for conditions and safety under which food is held, prepared and served to the public.
The provincial government and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs work together to provide a set of funding programs that support good jobs, attract investment, and help the agri-food industry make and even greater contribution to Ontario's economic success.
The ministry also provides advice, research, and programs to advance the sector. Together, these programs are designed to assist the industry in meeting the Premier's Agri-Food Growth Challenge to double its annual growth rate and create 120,000 new jobs by 2020.
