1. FormalWritten Proposal – 15%
Written report (maximum 12 pages + up to 8 pages of appendices)
The formal written proposal incorporates the essence of all the work you have done this semester, including as major elements your (a) research /
project question or aim, (b) Context Analysis, (c) clearand defensible methodology, and (d) description of the kaupapa Maori principles,
philosophy, and practices included. A report earning highest marks will follow the template provided or a suitable equivalent.
Defence for the project and methodology draw from your comparison and contrast of data-gathering methods and review of the literature and
local / site-relevant data and evidence as obtained through your Context Analysis.
Finally, you will need to address ethical considerations, including conflict of interest issues and implications. A caution for later and to be taken to
heart in writing your proposal: it is unlikely that your proposal will be approved subsequently by the ethics and proposal review committees
without due reference to relevant literature.
The proposal will be written for and provided to (or as if to) your actual stakeholders. This might include a manager whose approval you would
need, a funding authority, and / or representatives of stakeholder groups your project might involve or impact.
Where possible, assessment of the written component will incorporate feedback from stakeholders. Feedback from them will be considered in
your Final Reflective Overview.
