ESSAY on "Role of youth in nation building and progress".
1. ROLE OF YOUTH IN NATION BULIDING AND PROGRESS
“No one is born a good citizen; no nation is born a democracy. Rather, both are the
processes that continue to evolve over a lifetime. Young people must be included from
birth. A society that cuts off from its youth severs its lifeline.”-KOFI ANNAN.
At present, most of the world is full of opulent resources to benefit mankind with all the
possible ways, yet it not only severs from its lifeline but is also on the verge of disasters, as day
by day its youth is getting drawn into mire of listlessness and it has to be provoked anyhow,
either inspiring it by past’s successful youth or today’s recent youth.
Youth of a nation, the only way of progress of nation, prosperity, harmony and peace in this
modern era, are leading a life, which they are not meant to lead; nothing is done by them in
today’s exasperating situations. Inevitably the circumstances to come, which will cause the
devastation of nation; not only morally, ethically but also ecominically and will end everything.
Therefore, this is the responsibility of today’s youth to overpower these circumstances as these
conditions are always trouble causing in any nation of the world at any time; yet if Youth will be
there, no menace will be there to nation. It is the youth who will be ‘charisma’ for the nation in
future to prevent from all appalling conditions which could lead to virulence among the people.
In past, around the world many young spirits accomplished their aim, not only for themselves
but for the humanity. At that time, this was the youth which brought peace and harmony in
world; among these great spirits were Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King. Jr, Nelson
Mandela.
Mahatma Gandhi who was an Indian, led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand the
women’s rights in society, and end the injustices of cast system and to bring harmony among
the people of subcontinent. He accomplished his aimwhen India got independence. His lessons
for youth gave an encouragement to the Youth of a nation, in such a way that it works hard just
to achieve what is good for humanity and is told by previous human right champions. Gandhi in
his lifetime, made us realize the importance of youth. By his quote related to youth, we can get
why he put importance on the aspect of nation’s progress by youth. He said:
“If we are to reach peace in this world we shall have to begin with children”
2. Another brilliant example of Youth, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who was twentieth century’s best
known advocates for nonviolent social change. He wrote, spoke and organized nonviolent
protests against the discrimination to protect the rights of African- Americans. His life and work
symbolizes the quest for equality and nondiscrimination that lies in the heart of American and
human area till today. His teachings which he gave through his quotes, books etc. cherished the
memories of people with dignity and certainly intelligence and are still followed by many
people around the world. According to one of his quotes, he explains to everyone that human
progress is just brought by immense hard work, struggle and tireless efforts not only physically
but also spiritually. He said: “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step
toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and
passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” – Martin Luther king Jr.”
Nelson Mandela, a pioneer for human rights especially for rooting out racism, which was the
major injustice and discrimination for the black and white people of South Africa. He lived the
example of a man who not only brought equality among the people of nation but at his time
injustice, prejudices and racismvanished. He was the human rights champion who brought
progress to the whole world by rooting out racism. On trial for his actions, Mandela declared, “I
have fought against white dominance, and I have fought against black domination. I have
cherished the ideal of democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony
and equal opportunities.”
Perhaps the successful youth at that time, did everything to drizzle the world with the peace,
integrity, justice, harmony, equality and happiness. Apart from this, today’s youth also include
successful pioneers, among them are Arifa Karim, Babar Iqbal, and Malala Yousafzai etc. These
young spirits enhanced the power of an individual by their efforts and not only inspired today’s
generation but are the ultimate source of acuity and intelligence for new generation to come
soon.
Babar Iqbal and Arifa Karim are among those youth of a nation, who got phenomenal success
by getting honor of “World’s youngest Microsoft professionals”. Another example of
intelligence and sincerity of a youth for her nation, is of Malala Yousafzai, a 16 year old young
girl, who was shot by terrorists and extremists, just for a reason that she did something for the
sake of those girls who are treated by narrow-mindedness and backwardness of their parents
and society and are suffering in suffocative environment as they are also not allowed to get
education and be efficient enough to live a satisfactory and sophisticated life. Malala survived
3. and till now she is continuing her social work with the same zeal and has proved everyone that
courage, braveness does not mean everything but patriotism for a country and nation does
mean everything. These youths have totally made Pakistan proud of their sincerity and
patriotism.
So, the progress of a nation does depend upon the youth. Quaid -e- Azam, founder of Pakistan,
emphasized the great importance of Youth for a nation in all aspects of nation, such as social,
political and economical development of a nation. According to Quaid-e-Azam, if youth of a
nation has impassive behavior towards serious matters of a nation, then nothing constructive
and progressive is possible for a nation. The nation building and progressive thing for a nation
by youth is only possible when youth is well-grounded by discipline, unity, education and
training for arduous tasks. Quaid-e-Azam said: “Pakistan is proud of her youth, particularly the
students, who are nation builders of tomorrow. They must fully equip themselves by discipline,
education, and training for the arduous task lying ahead of them”
The youth of a nation, is a ‘spark’ which will enlighten whole nation and humanity with all
possible positive outcomes. If it fails to accomplish triumphs for its nation which are benefitting
for all mankind, then there is nothing more shameful for a nation than this imprudent act of
youth. There is only one condition when nation will be enlightened by brightness, prudency,
acuity and remarkableness, which is superfluousness of hard work and struggle among the
young generation. No one can beat up the sheer spirit of young individuals as their goal is
ultimate and final, their mission is just one and fully equipped with all brilliantness, they are the
only hope of a nation and their only will is to protect their nation from all immoralities, social
evils, political or social or economical interests of nation.
In the end, I would conclude just like that the Nation’s youth is not only accountable for its
progress, integrity, harmony, peace but also for intellectual lives of people which have had a life
of slavery, injustice and prejudice in past. The upcoming Youth should protest against the
menaces to their nation; as they are the only means of survival for the people of nation and
whole humanity.
4. Not only youth but the system governing, is accountable for all virulent acts which have had
been conspiracies of most politicians, the youth in present and in future should be trained with
envision of the upcoming attacks of super powers, if causing any trouble or harm to human race
or nation.
The systemof government should not blame the citizens or youth of a nation, it should be
reformed in a manner of giving all satisfactory rights and facilities to the citizens and youth. This
is the only way a systemcan do something for its youth. When system fails to give rights to its
citizens and youth, social evils and crimes arise in society which leads to poverty, corruption,
injustice, inequality and civil disobedience. To prevent from these situations, a systemshould
be intellectual enough to provide facilities and administrate all the rules and regulations of a
nation.
A nation can only progress when its youth gives its utmost devotion to the people of nation;
hard work, struggle and only sincerity can drive out social evils in present day occurring in every
nation of the world. Seldom, any nation has progressed whose youth is lethargic, barbarous and
disobeying in every aspect of life. The super powers of world today are not only developed by
means of infrastructure, education but also by the means of conscience and way of living. Thus,
if every nation of world develops sense of treating every problem with adequate reasoning,
then whole world will be flourishing, prosperous and glorious.
What an overwhelming message is given in this quote of Benjamin Disraeli, a British politician
and author:
“The Youth of a Nation are trustees of posterity.”
