Words are very powerful: they have the ability to make you think,
laugh, cry, and conjure a variety of other emotions. Speaking
words aloud and hearing yourself say them can start a domino
effect, giving thoughts life.

Some people tend to keep their thoughts to themselves. Often
this inability to speak out is what’s inhibiting many from making
changes in their lives. They need to revisit the power of the
spoken word, put energy is saying things aloud, and focus on
their commitment to what has been said.
Sharing thoughts about reaching goals will convince other people
to share their vision and dreams. Remember Muhammad Ali? He
was unfazed by any opponent, claiming he was “the greatest” to
the media and most likely to himself, too; to convince himself that
he can overcome all odds. And that, he did. Verbalizing your
goals creates an emotional attachment, and that emotional bond
keeps you motivated to succeed.
Make sure your words come from the heart and that you’re being
honest with whomever you’re speaking. Because the power of
the spoken word can work very, very quickly. Think before you
speak— while your words can be instruments to build things up,
they can also be used to tear things down. Be conscious of
negative comments or negative self-talk and be conscientious
when someone comes to you with a particular challenge.

Finally, as you work on the power of the spoken word, also be
mindful when it’s time for you to be a good listener instead.
