3. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?
1. Product Design
There are more than 10 million people in North America who need to take medicine regularly. Many of them are elderly
people with arthritis. Since hand dysfunction and limited movability, the current smart pill boxes, which are small and slight,
are not kind to them.
Therefore, a new smart pill box, which has big store size and automatic organization function, could provide a
better experience to them in daily medication.

4. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?
2. Promotion Design
The sales volume of current smart pill boxes is 1% of the huge potential customers. The problem lies in the way of promotion.
The current smart pill boxes mainly use the way of online promotion through their own websites and some Third-party
websites. However, old people do not spend much time on the internet and their thinking are traditional. Thus, the smart pill
box, as a kind of new product is hard to get their trust. In addition, many target customers do not realize the difficulties and
dangers they encounter during the medication. All of these led to the acceptance of the smart pill box is very low in the
market.
I plan to cooperate with some traditional medias, like elderly magazine or television station. These promotion
methods are more familiar to them. In addition, I plan to cooperate with pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies,
because patients are easier to believe information from authority agency.

In service design, I plan use “Free Trial” to attract my target customers. When my target people use my smart pill box,
they will know that having a simple and safe medication is happy. After that, they will like to pay for it.

7. WHAT WERE THE KEY POINTS OF RESEARCH?
Pill Box Function
1.Big store size
In my research, the average amount of elderly daily dose is 6. They take 3-4 species medicine. The storage capacity of current smart pill boxes are 20-40 pieces.
This is the result of portability. My product positioning is home-use pill box. Therefore, I discard portability and develop large capacity. In my plan the pill box
could store 6-8 specie medicines, totaling 200 pieces.
2.Automatic pills organization
In order to serve to arthritics, I plan to simplify the whole using process from fill up to medication. The function of automatic pills organization replaces the lots of
customers' finger work.

8. ”A-ha” MOMENT
The most important ”A-ha” moment happened in an Uber car.
The driver, Freddie, is an funnyold man. He gave me an important hint. The elderly people also use smartphones. In my reserach, I found a
huge gap between the account of my potential users, the people who needed to take medicine, and the sales of smart pill boxes. I used to
think that the reason is that older people generally do not use smartphones. Even I planned to put the interface on the pill box. So that my
target users would not have to use their unfamiliar tools - smartphones. Seeing Freddie skilled use of smart phones, I had doubts about the
previous understanding.
After investigation, I found that the popularity of smart phones in the elderly is very high. In 2014, according to the latest from Pew, 18% of the
65+ had a smartphone . In 2015, 27% have them. Today, the rate is higher than 70%.
After deeper study, I found the problem of promotion of current smart pill boxes in the market. And then I decided to try a “new” way to
promote - cooperation with the elderly magazine.

How to use it?
1. Automitic Organization Pills

• Choose a room to store a kind of pill in your app
• Drop the pills into the container
• Close cap
2. Daliy Medication
On medication time, you have three reminder options
- The app will sent message to reminder you.
- Play music to remind you
- Prompt light to remind you
Or choose all~
• The pill cup will be pushed out
• Pick up the cup and take the medicine
• Put the cup back

10. WHAT IS THE FINAL SOLUTION?
The big handle is easy to open by arthritics.

AARP is my ideal business partner. We
have similar target customers. Thus, I
plan to serve ads in AARP.
In addition, AARP has huge user
information. Cooperating with AARP
could give me an opportunity to
send ”Free-trial” email to customers.
