The Boiler Building
A Cinderella Story
From Cinders and brick
to spaces filled with
music and light
How to take two seperate
spaces, which are divided by a
brick wall and a drastic change in
floor level, and not only join them
but make the concjoining space
symbolic of social, musical, and
intellectual connection, this is the
goal in altering the historic boiler
building.

9. Sitting inside, one experiences the energy of a
kaleidoscope, being washed in brilliant colors
and random playful patterns of light.
KALEIDELIONThis design creates a delicate hut filled with light and
color. The space is intended to be contemplative yet
vibrant. A person would toss the elements, which float
through the air then stack. Resting entwined with each
other the elements create intricate patterns of color,
shadow, and light which is inspired by the dandelion
and the kaleidoscope.

The central focus of
Willamette Cottage is mending
shattered lives. The people, the
place and the building must
work toward guarding, teaching
and rebuilding their young
residents. The staff is present
because of a desire to make a
difference, to participate in the
rebuilding of humanities future.
The place Christie Care Campus,
is intended to be a safe
place for the youth to begin
the rebuilding process. The
Building; Willamette Cottage
is the shelter and the facility
used to further the process of rebuilding. In order for the rebuilding of these young charges to take place, the staff must be
given a structure to work within; this contributes to staff physical and emotional safety and allows them to further their goals of
participation and to success. By having a strongly supported, interconnected staff, the structure is able to support families while
teaching and nurturing the youth. The goal of the system is a healthy youth and a healthy family.
