Dikesh Shrestha is a landscape architect based in Geelong, Victoria. His portfolio includes projects such as an Earthquake Memorial Park in Barpak, Nepal that guides visitors through experiences of remembrance, experiencing the landscape, and realizing the scale of destruction. Another project is a Manufactured Mountains park at a former industrial site in Point Henry, Victoria that conserves the site's ecology and industrial remnants while introducing new attractions. Background
Situated on the fault line between Eurasian and Indian plates, earthquakes
in Nepal are inevitable and occour in intervals of 60-80 years. The proposed
Earthquake memorial park is situated at Barpak village near the Epicentre of
the 2015 Nepal earthquake.
Design Intent
The idea of proposed design is to create experience of the geographical land-
scape and challanges associated, creating a journey walking through the ele-
vating slopy landscape of the site leading to a viewpoint of the Epicentre which
shows a physical scar of the earthquake and the scale of destruction.

REMEMBE RANCE EXPERIENCE REALIZATION
The memorial journey is divided into three themes; Remember, Experience and Realize.
The shrine is a deconstructed form of stupa
with its pinnacle fallen at the bottom. It is a
place to comemorate and mourn the losses
and to pray for the victims.
The Axis (A2) leads from starting point (Visitor centre) to the forest
of rememberance which opens up to the deep valley opposite to
the site, an experience to witness the landscape and geographical
challenges of Nepal.

The Memorial journey starts at the Visitor centre where the visitiors will be provided
brief about the journey.
The journey begins from Shrine of Rememberance and concludes at the Point of
Realization which has clear view of the massive landslides at the Epicentre.

4. Design Intention
The purpose of design is to retain and re-establish the history and significance
of Point henry by conserving the rare, adaptive flora, fauna and wetlands of
the site, retaining the insustrial remains of historic significance and by adapting
and implementing new functions and attractions to the post-industrial site.

POINT HENRY, GEELONG I M.L.A I DEAKIN UNIVERSITY
THE MANUFACTURED MOUNTAINS
Background
Point henry, the former ALCOA aluminium smelter site is a valuable industrial
heritage and has a splendid historical significance to Geelong. The port at
point henry served as a gateway to Geelong during the historic gold rush ,
Point henry has served as transport dock, tea gardens, public gardens and
later ALCOA which shutdown in 2007.
The postindustrial site has rich cultural and historic layers, endangered flora
and fauna, wetlands. Its location, history, geography and openings might be
exceptionally valuable for Geelong community.
CONSERVE + PRESERVE + ADAPT METAMORPHOSIS
The metamorphosis of the postindustrial site develops
Point henry as a new Nature reserve with industrial park
and The Man made Mountains of Point henry will give a
new identity and attraction to Geelong community as no
mountains or nature reserve are located as close.

The Zoning and concept of site is carried out by analysis of pedestrian movement and use.Park is divided to
active and passive part along with public, semi public and semi private areas according to current use and flow.

High columns ispired by iconic Bollards of Geelong highlights the active part of the park towards highstreet used for pedestrian movement.

Background
Belmont is a suburb of Geelong, located approx 4 km from the central Geelong
CBD. High street belmont used to be major economic and socially active area
of Geelong but in the present it is vehicle dominated, congested and passive
with lack of public open space and amenities. The Urban park is a part of an
urban design exercise to recativate and develop Highstreet Belmont. The se-
lected site lies at a nodal point between major strees and currently is a dead-
parking lot.
Design Intention
The name Belmont means ‘Place of the hills’ and is seperated from the CBD
by Barwon river.
The design tries to recreate the slopy contours (‘Hills, the identity of belmont’)
on the site creating various levels of activity spaces and creating a highly need-
ed public place for thhe present anf future conditions.

THE GARDEN IS DIVIDED INTO 3 ZONES
ZONE 1: DESERT GARDEN
Based on the site analysis, desert garden is designed on the area with Dry soil and full sunlight.
The selected plants are drought tolerant (Succulents, Lavender, foxtail plant)
Bottle brush trees on the south provides wind protection
Jelly plant and gravel to be used as ground cover to provide desert looks.
ZONE 2: WATER GARDEN
This is in the area with Highest moisture in the site, due to the slope.
The pond is created as a water feature.
The rocks around the pond provides wind protection for the shrubs and groundcoverplants aswell as creates two mi-
cro climates: The sun exposed side as hot and full sun, where Swamp Wattle will be planted and the other as shaded
and wet, where Blue Lilly Turf will be planted

The canopy trees are planted to create shade for the pedestrian path-
way, while the lawn will be the resting area under shade.
Silver wattle trees not only provide shade but also used as ornamental
trees with its beautiful flowers.
Bright shrubs like; Fire lilly, Coastal rosemarry, Yellow button, Flax lilly
are selected to provide range of colours during different seasons.

Background
The site for university hostel warden residence was located next to a moun-
tain that would block the sunlight on the site which was bad for cold winter of
Bhaktapur.
Design intent
Lying beside the mounta in, the building design expresses a concept of 3d
objects rolled down the mountain and stacked on top.
The proposed design implements passive solar heating techniques an to pre-
serve heat from the sunlight that falls on the site for a limited time.

Background
The client Chitwan medical College needed an admin block with Hospital can-
teen towrds the front street and pharmacy on the groundfloor. I was as project
architect from the beggining of conceptual phase to the final working deatil
drawings.
Design Intent
The proposed design was carried as per client requirements, the front facade
being welcoming and modern while the rest serving the functions allocated and
merging with old hospital design.
