General History
I started my early training at Montmarte School of Imperial Russian Ballet under the
directionof Alexandria Baldina Kosloff. Alexandria and Theodore Kosloff escaped Russia
in 1920’s and opened a dance school in Hollywood where Fred Astair, Gene Kelly, Vera
Ellenand Donald O’Connor (among others) studied Ballet. At age fifteen I was given a full
scholarship at San Francisco Ballet School and I was performing withSanFrancisco Ballet
Co. within the first year. Throughout my career I have studied with many great masters:
Anatole Vilzak, Alexandria Baldina Kosloff, Oleg Tupine, Stanley Holden, Margaret
Hills, David Howard , Michael Smuin and Lew Christiansen. I was very fortunate to learn
authentic Russianand HungarianFolk dancing from Ava Alpar from Budapest, Hungary. I
also studied acting at the Jean Halliburton School of Acting in Hollywood.
In 1984 I performed the lead role in an original Ballet created for me: “Summer Porch”
choreographed by Alice La Mar, to Beethoven’s Archduke Trio performed by members of
the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
In 1985 I joined Marnie Nixon and The Los Angeles Piano Quartet for a “Tribute To The
Arts” Cruise to South America and the Caribbean.
In 1991 I suffered a serious back injury from a car accident and was unable to dance
professionally. Since then I have loved my work as an Instructor and Choreographer.
.
I have staged and choreographed many performances including the Nutcracker Snow
Scene” and “Christmas Around The World” in which I choreographed “Arabian” as a Pas
De Deux for Marty Lewis and Anne Gravier . Also: “The Bottle Dance” from “Fiddler
On The Roof,“Morgan Megan” from Barolk Folk , “Gypsy Tango” by Mouti and “Four
3. Maidens” to Handel’s Concerto Grosso in G Major and “Dance Macabre” for UNR’s Fall
Dance Festival.
In addition to my originally choreographed works, I am very experienced at staging and
coaching classically choreographed pieces in preparation for competition and professional
performances. I am able to set the style and choreography from famous choreographers
including: Petipa, Balanchine, Fokine ,Bournonville andVaganova.
As an instructor, I place important emphasis on proper placement of the back, hips knees
and feet inorder to prevent injury while training the body to the un-natural positionof “turn
out”. As a former massage therapist I worked closely with physical therapists and have a
comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and injury prevention and treatment. I owned and
operated “Sports and Rehabilitative Massage Therapy” for ten years in California.
