Experience English provides English Language tuition and teacher training services to an international
market. We have 4 schools across the UK and a young learner business which is evolving. We are proud
to include some of the UKs best known language schools in our group including Hampstead School of
English, Manchester Academy of English, English Language Centre York and Edinburgh Language Centre.

We are part of the Education division of TUI Group, the world’s leading travel organisation. The division
comprises of 38 brands dedicated to worldwide school and university markets, including educational
tours, residential activity courses, school and university ski trips, sports tours, expeditions and
developmental travel.
This role is a vital part of the successful running of the school. You will lead the school and ensure is run
and managed successfully. You will be responsible for overseeing the academic and operational delivery
through line managing the function managers. You will be responsible for leading the school in all
aspects, ensuring it has a sound strategy and most importantly is commercially successful and delivers
expected revenue and profit requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
General duties
Oversees all aspects of school life, from student services to the academic management team
Ensure the smooth general daily running of the school
Line management of Operations Manager and Academic Manager
Provide support and advice to all school functions as needed; oversee and coordinate the
Operations and Academic teams regarding course requests and programme design, providing
information and advice as necessary
Act as main point of contact between school, other schools (through other School Managers)
and senior management team
Act as main point of contact for school when dealing with external sources
Deal with escalated issues arising from the emergency phone on-call issues
Promote and represent the school locally and nationally through attending conferences or
industry meetings as needed (e.g. regional or national English UK meetings, chambers of
commerce etc)
Keep up-to-date with any industry developments
Responsible for school P&L. Ensuring monthly and annual profit targets are met through sales
activity and cost control.
Staff training & management
Lead regular school team meetings and ensure actions arising from the meetings are delivered

Accreditations and Memberships:
Work with both direct reports and the wider team to agree achievable team & individual
objectives; conduct annual performance development reviews and ensure regular meetings
with all team members
Manage payroll submissions for the school
Monitor payroll costs of the school and ensure expenditure is within budget
Provide school and product training for the BDM & reservations teams as needed
Student Welfare & Courses
Manage, with the Operations Manager, the tuition timetable ensuring class size is optimized at
all times.
Regular reviews of school and company procedures to ensure high standards are maintained,
compliant with legal and accreditation guidelines
Support Operations manager in dealing with student or group leader complaints or queries
Final decision maker on student issues (e.g. suspension, special circumstances etc)
Monitor and review all client feedback and lead the implementation of any necessary changes
arising as a result of feedback
Commercial
Plan and lead familiarisation trips for visiting agents, with the support of the rest of the team
Work to achieve optimum class sizes wherever possible
Minimise unnecessary payroll spend
Create and review all booking reports and react as necessary; advise Director of Schools of any
potential operational or strategic changes necessary
Provide regular progress reports and reviews of programme/product performance and
challenges for senior management team
Work with school team to suggest potential new programmes or sources of revenue
Negotiate best terms and rates for residential accommodation
Drive a commercially-focussed student activities & ancillaries programme
Work with Operations Manager to ensure best rates with all suppliers vs quality and that
supplier provision is fit for purpose
Work with Central Commercial team to review pricing on an annual basis, and suggest more
tactical offers and opportunities
Liaise with sales and marketing team regarding the development of school brochures, courses
and promotion of Edinburgh Language Centre locally and nationally, providing input as
required.
Monitor operational costs of the school and ensure expenditure is minimised and within
budget
