Where do we stand right now?
The chart below compares the BMI, fasting blood sugar and total
cholesterol of our
company to the
national, or normal average. It is important to
know these values because they directly
affect our health status as a community. As
you can see, all of our values are severely
above the average.
How does diet play a role?
A healthy diet gives your body thenutrients it needs to
perform physically,maintain wellness,and fight disease.
How does diet influence cholesterol, BMI, and
blood sugar?
Cholesterol can be found in foods such as egg yolks,
cheese, and meat. Foods like these and others can,
sometimes, raise your cholesterol levels. Consistently
high cholesterol levels can lead to heart attack, stroke, and coronary heart disease.
BMI, or Body Mass Index, is the tool used to measure weight status. A normal BMI is 20-25. A BMI valueof 25-29
means that the individual is overweight. Any BMI valueover 29 means that the individual is obese. Diet directly
affects BMI because it is calculated by dividing a person’s weight by their height. Overeating and eating unhealthy
foods increase the BMI because it increases body weight.
Blood sugar is affected by diet because certain foods such as, breads, cereals, rice and fruit, can cause blood sugar
to rise. When blood sugar is consistently high, diabetes can develop. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to blindness,
kidney failure, and even heart disease.
