2. • Type of documentary: Mixed
• Themes: Piercings, Tattoos, individuality
• Narrative Structure: This documentary has a linear structure as it follows
the story of a man’s childhood. He is fascinated by piercings and tattoo's
and ends up owning his own business in the industry.
• Camerawork: Close ups, extreme close ups of tattoo's, piercings etc.
Handheld camerawork throughout the majority of the doc. Interviews are
taken from a low angle to express dominance and follows the rule of thirds
shot to close up talking head shots.
3. Mise-en-scene: During the interview, set in a tattoo parlour with graffiti and images on the
wall added to the ‘punk, individual’ image that was being portrayed throughout the
documentary. The use of low key lighting created a dark and mysterious theme around the
idea of tattoo’s. Different locations were used that portrayed the same theme, these being
other tattoo parlours.
Sound: Non-diegetic sound, this included the punk rock and metal music being played in
the background. This linked in with the people involved in this documentary and followed
the genre of this documentary.
Archive Material: images of piercing that have gone wrong.
Graphics: they use a green screen to give some of the interviews a more suitable backdrop
as shown in the image.
