The ting evaluation

1. The use of over shoulder shots but using foreground mise en
scene builds tension as if someone is watching them.
The unseen in this short is represented using first person tracking
mid shots which is a key convention for horror themes. It also
introduces a paranormal theme because the presence of the
camera in this shot is never noticed.

2. Floating title displays the abnormality of the film and the red stroke font foreshadows
violence and gore as well as horror themes.
The track and reverse track helps to promote both characters as equally important.
But only the male is on screen with the title which suggests to the audience that he is
directly linked to ‘the ting’.

3. The use of first person/ Point of view shots to re-enact a memory brings it to
users attention that only one of the characters is present in the memory.
The use of lighting from one side of the door symbolizes the power of an
object behind behind the door that changes the plot and helps build
suspense in the audience.

4. Use of echo on the vocals when speaking into the phone emphasizes the importance
of that part of the story.
This echo empowers his vocals and brings the audiences attention to him specifically
and tells the audience that he what they ask for is a key feature of the film.

5. Shallow focus emphasizes the moment and the character.
This focus technique brings the audiences attention to only the focused part of the
screen making it an important moment to the audience.

6. The red symbolizes horror and rounds off the end of the film after the horror ending.
This is in place to comfort the audience as if to say ‘You knew what was coming’ similar
themes are seen in other horror films, another common ending is to contrast the horror
with a happy song at the end.
