Crosby Coffee started as an experiment that
turned into a hobby, which spiralled into an
obsession,’ says its owner Jack Foster.
The young entrepreneur and coffee lover
initially studied sports science at university,
but life works in circuitous ways and he’s
ended up with a career in hospitality and
catering – including time as hospitality
manager at Manchester United.
Passionate about finding good coffee in
his local area of Liverpool, in 2013 Jack
began a personal quest to source, roast and
blend his own coffee. Using beans imported
mainly from Guatemala and Rwanda and
occasionally sourced from Brazil, Colombia,
India, Indonesia and Mexico, Crosby Coffee
roasts small batches to order, using a 1kg
Toper Cafemino roaster. ‘Our most popular is
a Spanish-influenced dark floral blend, a single
origin infused with fresh cardamom,’ says Jack.
‘There’s also a spin-off New Orleans blend with
chicory,’ he adds. Crosby Coffee’s first blend,
Iron Men Crosby, was named after Anthony
Gormley’s iconic cast-iron sculptures on
Crosby Beach, but Jack also
creates bespoke blends
for customers.
The Liverpool-based roastery is
fitted out in cool industrial style
with scaffolding and pallets,
and also acts as a coffee shop
during business hours, selling freshly roasted
beans, brews and snacks to enjoy alongside
bespoke coffee treats. ‘Working with other local
independents, we’ve created unique products
such as coffee and chocolate bars, coffee candy
floss and coffee brownie bites,’ says Jack.
