My name is Jack C. Sharpe, Jr., M.A. and I am sending you some information about myself for your
consideration of employment. I have had extensive experience in the areas of counseling, education and
in-service training. I have served as a teacher, a counselor and a trainer where I have had to implement
the policies and statutes provided by both my agency as well as the state. I have also been a member of
The Department of Correctional Education Youth School Crisis Management and Response Team where
I have had to collect intelligence on the security threat groups in our facilities. I have also served as the
executive director of an independent living program where I oversaw the implementation of the program
for my residents.
As a teacher I was entrusted with the teaching of adolescents in the Areas of Math, Science, Social
Studies (History) and English. The school setting is a highly dynamic environment with deadlines and
multiple tasks to be completed. I was required to participate in the Comprehensive School Improvement
Plan where I served on the professional development and data collection committees and provided
training on various topics. I have researched and presented this research during my educational career. I
have written educational reports as well as safety and security reports for my agency which assess the
progress, risks and threats to and from the residents we serve in The Department of Correctional
Education (DCE). I have served as an instructor, where I was entrusted with preparing 6th
graders in an
inner city middle school for their History Virginia Standards of Learning Exam. I required their best effort
to ensure their maximum development. I have also served as an intensive in-home counselor where I
implemented interventions that met the needs of client Individual Treatment Plans. I was required to
provide case management and complete BIRP notes and reports for client progress.
I have created and founded a business called Black Phoenix Educational Services where I have serviced
social service agencies and residential homes by providing them with workshops, psycho-ed groups and
in-service trainings to enhance their own services. I have recruited facilitators to deliver these workshops.
I have created a curriculum to be adapted to my client’s needs.
As the executive director of an independent living program, I have worked to implement the independent
living requirements of the state in regards to the residents of our independent living program. I was also
involved with creating and implementing their Individual Service Plans. I have also been a case manager
for their progress completing Behavior, Intervention, Response and Plan (BIRP) notes. I have put my
students, clients and residents as a high priority. Helping them plan and execute their future is what I
enjoy most.
