well known for her work for the Rolling Stones magazine in the 70s
& 80's , portraits of famous stars such as Heath Ledger and Kate
Moss and her now more recent work which has been fashion
photography for Vanity Fair and Vogue.
3. This is an image of Whoopi Goldberg lying in a bath of milk. A connotation of
this image is that Lebovitz wants Whoopi to emulate cleopatra who
supposedly bathed in milk. At the same time she is slightly mocking
this concept as you Whoopi pulling a quite inelegant and comical
facial expression maybe trying to convey other parts of her character.
There is a contrast between the pure white of the milk and the dark
colour of her skin which highlights the beauty in her complexion .
Another key way in which Lebovitz tries to highlight different sides to
Whoopi's personality is through the setting. Specifically they way in
which is set in unluxurious quite informal bathroom creating this idea
she is down to earth and unconventional personality.
This is an image is of Leonardo Dicaprio with a swan
draped around his neck . A theme Lebovitz it trying to
convey through the image is of the classic story of swan
lake. Conveying this idea that Leonardo is the prince in
search for his love. The black and white effected used on
the image makes him look captivating. It also makes
Leonardo look a lot more mature as at this point he was
still very young and wanted to be taken as a serious actor.
The setting is simple and out of focus so you are more
focused on Leonardo.
4. Man Ray
Man Ray was an American born photographer who spent most of
his career in Paris. He was part of many bohemian circles within

5. It is a portrait is of Barbette a performer. The use of double exposure
within the image creates a ghostly figure in the background of the
image. Which may be conveying the idea of the figure within being a
projection of her dreams and aspiration or remembering her past . A
sinister mood it created by the intense and almost mesmerizing
glare of the subject . The way in which the lighting has been shone
upwards onto the subject face emphasizes the subjects pronounce
collar bones and tantalising blonde locks of hair.
It is a portrait of Salvador Dali. Dali was famously known for being
eccentric and Man Ray has portrayed this those his image quite
simply. This was conveyed through the way in which Man Ray used
lighting by shining the light upwards onto the subjects faces
creating shadow above his eyebrows accentuating the arch of his
eyebrows . Which intensifies the psychotic look in his eyes. His
expressionless face draws the viewers to Dalis intense glare
creating eye contact.
6. Cristina Gracia Rodero
Cristina Gracia Rodero is a Spanish
photographer most well known for her
documentary style photography.
Depicting cults, cultural and religious
events with in Spain.
7. The image depicts two men of religion drinking in
the street. Rodero creates quite a juxtapositioned
with the formal outfits and the acts they are
performing. A key figure you are drawn to is the
man in the center of the image they way in which
he is staring up to the sky as if look to god for
repentance for the acts they are performing. The
figure almost seems surreal as a birds perches on
his hat and he seems to be unfazed.
8. The image shows a transvestite walking down an urban street in Spain. The audiences eyes are
guided by the lines of the houses on either side creating perspective and making the subject the
focal point of the image. There is quite a contrast between the urban and quite rundown setting and
the glamorous outfit worn by the subject in the image . It causes the audience to question whether
they feel it is odd or not to see such a character in such a mundane setting. The use of the black and
white filter on the image emphasizes the charismatic nature of the subject.
