The document discusses how artists often prosper most from personal, lighthearted projects done spontaneously rather than planned projects. The spontaneity allows the artist to focus more on the process than the outcome. Examples are given of street art done to assert presence and music written solely for personal satisfaction that became some of the artist's most proud and authentic work.

Proof That Having Fun with Personal Projects Lands You Major Clients by Emily Gosling
Blog Review
There are many instances in the art industry in which artists have prospered the most from personal, lighthearted
projects, rather than planned projects. The spontaneity of the project makes the artist less focused on the
outcome, and rather more focused on the process and meaning. David Carr-Smith discusses through his blog the
art of improvised street art, in which citizens “assert their presence via public pictorial interventions”. Art that is
carried out with intentions to solely satisfy the artist themselves in the end result in some of the world’s greatest
masterpieces, in my opinion. As a musician, the projects I am most proud of and that are most authentic were
spontaneous and written solely to satisfy myself.

Shameless vs. shameful by Seth’s Blog
Blog Review
How do we breakaway from a society that uses shame more-or-less as a tactic to keep everyone “inline”? Living in a society
that enforces norms by putting others down is not only morally corrupt, but can also potentially build a society of sociopaths.
From what I can tell, we live in a society in which authority thrives off of controlling others. By doing so, shame is used to
inflict insecurity in order for society to feel comfortable sticking to a set status quo. How do we control a society that controls
us? Thomas Rothwell on Quora.com responded with the following: “We control our responses to society.” If we stick to our
morals and choices, we are less likely to be influenced by the choices of others.

The Perfect Photo: Myth or Reality? By Emily Ludolph
Blog Review
What makes art “perfect” is beyond subjective. What makes a perfect photo to some may be the technicalities. Meanwhile,
to others such as Artwork Archive, striving for perfection in art can detrimentally hold one back due to “fear of not
measuring up to other’s expectations” (Artwork Archive). In my opinion, the “imperfections” in an art piece are what makes
that particular piece unique. Striving for perfection in an industry that is completely subjective will eliminate any form of
opportunity for an artist to truly express themselves freely and openly.
