2. The order of the National Artist Award and the National
Living Treasures are the highest recognitions an artist could
recieved as a Filipino. But there are many other awards an
artist could strive for. In fact, most of the Natinal Artist were
recognized by these awards giving bodies before they were
awarded the country's highest artistic recognition.
3. The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM)
The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) is given
to men and women between ages of 18-40
who have shown selfless dedication to their
profession that has resulted in outstanding
contributions to their individual fields and
well-being of their fellowmen.
4. The TOYM Awards was started by Manila Chapter of the Jaycees
in April 6, 1959.
Jaycees stands for the Junior Chamber International which is a
multinational civil organization.
The awards was later adopted into a nationwide project of the
organization October later that year.
5. A foundation was put up in 1990 with the help of the
Jaycee National Officers and the former TOYM awardees to
support the annual search. In 1996, the award was changed to
TOYF or The Outstanding Young Filipinos to give equal
opportunity for women even if women have been recipients of
the awards since 1984.
In 1999, the name was changed back to TOYM in order to
respect the original name of the award and to emphasize that
“men” in the name of the award refers to both genders.

9. Thirteen Artists Awards (TAA)
Started in 1970 by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Thirteen
Artist Awards was created to motivate upcoming generation of visual artist. The
name of the awards was coined by the CCP director Roberto Chabet who
likened the initial set of awardees to the thirteen Moderns who pioneered the
modernist movement in the Philippines.
The awards were given every two years but later changed to every three
years in 2009. This change was was made to better see the progression of art
styles and trends and how artist tackle and answer artistic challenges.
The selection process has also changed. At first, the selection of the
artist were made by the CCP visual director, but as of 1988 the selection i
processed through nominations of different art councils and organization of the
Philippines.
10. This has made the set of awardees a better representation of
the different contemporary art forms present in the country.
Awardees have their work displayed in the Bulwagang Juan
Luna, which is the CCP main gallery , as well as cash prizes and a
trophy.
The following are the qualifications for an artist to be nominated for
the Thirteen Artist Awards:
❖ A filipino citizen less than forty years old
❖ Artworks must be rellevant to the present situations.
❖ Work must be presented in a form of contemporary art.
❖ Work must be evident of integrity, uniqueness ,and thought-
provoking ideas
❖ Artist must have been continously producing artworks as
documented through solo and group exhibition.

13. Gawad CCP Para sa Sining
The Gawad CCP Para sa Sining is the highest award the Cultural
Center of the Philippines can give to the artist or group of artist
whose body of work has constantly shown high quality and has
contributed to the development of their chosen art form. It was first
given posthumously in 1997 to Hubertus Kuhne for Cultural
Administration. It was then given annually until 1994. After 1994 the
awards have been given every three years.
14. The awards recognizes artist of the following art
forms: visual arts, music, dance, theater, film,
literature, broadcast arts, technical theater and
production design and it has three categories:
Category A.
Category B.
Category C.
15. Also given during the awarding ceremony is the Tanging
Parangal ng CCP which is given to a person or a group for their
contribution and efforts that have made important and positive
change to Phillipine Art.
Many of the past awardees of the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining
would later become recognized as Philippine National Artist
such as Arturo Luz, Cesar Legazpi, Jose Joya, Wilfredo Ma.
Guerero, Daisy Hontiveros,Jose Avellana, F. Sionil Jose N.V.M.
Gonzales, Andrea Veneracion, Jose Maceda, Levi Celerion,
Ishmael Bernal, Lino Brocka, and Eddie Romero.
