Making the Adjustment
BE OPENED MINDED
 Remember that you are going to meet people from different cities, different states, or
with different life experiences.
 Be open to new people and new experiences while living on campus.
 Our staff is here to help you adjust to this new environment.
PERSONALIZE YOUR ROOM
 This will be your home away from home, so decorate it to your liking.
 You may use finishing nails and thumbtacks to hang décor on your walls. All furniture
must stay in the unit.
 You can rearrange your room any way you’d like but all exits must be accessible.
 Do not hang anything from the sprinkler heads and do not tamper with life safety
equipment.
GET CONNECTED
 Each community will host their own welcome week events to help students become
acclimated to campus culture.
 The University will also have what we call Waves of Welcome events to help students
make connections with other students and campus life here at TAMU-CC.
Waves of
Welcome
Programs
The University hosts a wide
array of WOW events!
• Be sure to check out
events hosted by
Islander Housing:
• Miramar Welcome Bash
• Double XL at Momentum
Village
Now that you’re moved in, what’s
next?
Safe Living
Renters Insurance
 In case of an accident, it is important to protect your belongings. Renter's insurance can
cover the belongings in your space. You can find coverage from your auto insurance,
homeowners' insurance, or GradGuard.
On-site management
 We have student staff who also serve on an on-call rotation and complete rounds of the
property every night to assist residents for any after-hour emergencies. In addition to
this, we have Professional & Maintenance staff members who support student staff after
hours.
Access Control
 All units and elevators (MV only) have key/fob access. Only residents will have access to
their buildings in the community where they reside.
University Police Department
 University Police are readily available 24/7. They also conduct rounds of both housing
communities' multiple times throughout the day to ensure resident safety.
See Something, Say Something!
 As a member of our community, it is imperative that you reach out to our management team
and let us know of any safety/building concerns. If you see something that may look suspicious,
please inform our staff so that we can inspect & handle the situation.
