The Housing Survey is one of the main INSEE surveys in terms of its seniority (1955) and sample size (36,000 dwellings in 2013). It is the major statistical source for describing housing stocks and the conditions under which households occupy their main residence. It also serves to measure the housing costs borne by different types of households. The survey covers all the main residences of France, including overseas departments. The survey was extended to Mayotte for the first time in 2013. Note The 2013 survey benefited from regional and national partnerships serving to complete the national sample (extension into sensitive urban zones, extensions into two mainland regions and into the Overseas Departments).
