Identive has announced a new RFID development kit called GameChangeR that allows developers to easily incorporate RFID technology into electronic games without specialist knowledge. The kit includes an RFID reader, tags, and software API to enable contactless communication and memory capabilities between game pieces and software. This allows physical game pieces to interact with virtual environments for richer gaming experiences. The kit is designed to be simple to use yet protect the integrity of tag data and gaming experiences within an ecosystem. Identive is accepting orders for shipment in February and believes the kit will be a game changer for developers.

M2M Applications
GameChangR™ makes it easy to add RFID – and a richer user experience – to
electronic games
SANTA ANA, Calif. and ISMANING, Germany, January 23, 2013 – Identive Group, Inc.
(NASDAQ: INVE; Frankfurt: INV), a provider of solutions and services for the identification,
security and RFID industries, today announced GameChangeR™, an innovative developers’
solutions kit that enables the rapid creation and integration of contactless radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology into electronic games without the need for specialist RFID
knowledge. RFID allows physical objects to interact with virtual environments for a richer
user experience.
“Increasingly, people are interested in creating interactions between their physical
environment and the virtual world. In areas such as electronic gaming, this is fueling demand
for M2M solutions that allow a device, such as a game piece, to deliver information about
itself to a software application, such as an electronic game, that determines how the piece
will be used in the game and also allows the game to change the characteristics of the piece
by storing new information on it,” explained Dr. Manfred Mueller, COO Identification Products
for Identive Group. “Identive’s GameChangeR development kit leverages Identive’s expertise
so developers can easily incorporate RFID into electronic games with the addition of instant,
contactless communications and memory capabilities to game pieces.”
Michael Ganzera, vice president of Marketing for Identive added, “Our new RFID
development kit truly is a game changer for developers, because it allows them to create
dynamic and interactive gaming experiences using RFID technology, with no prior RFID
experience. This ability to deliver what the market needs springs from Identive’s unique
ability to address the entire value chain of RFID, from tags to readers to complete solutions.”
The GameChangR RFID solutions development kit comes with a specially-configured RFID
reader, three GameChangeR tags and a USB – UART converter. The 13.56MHz,
ISO14443A reader exposes a simple-to-use, high-level API that allows developers to interact
with the GameChangeR RFID tags in a protected manner, and with no knowledge or prior
2. experience working with RFID technology. Both the reader and the pre-initialized
GameChangeR tags are configured to work only with each other, which ensures integrity of
the tag content and protection of the gaming experience in a given ecosystem. Identive
currently is accepting orders for the GameChangeR development kit for shipment in
February.
