The document discusses various home remedies for treating indigestion, including peppermint tea, chamomile tea, apple cider vinegar, ginger, fennel seed, baking soda, lemon water, and licorice root. It provides instructions for preparing and consuming each remedy, and notes their effectiveness in reducing stomach acid and relieving symptoms like nausea, bloating, and pain. The document also discusses several homeopathic remedies that may help treat indigestion caused by specific triggers like rich foods, alcohol, or dairy.
2. Indigestion
indigestion is a term that
describes a fullness or
discomfort in the upper
abdomen. Sign of
indigestion may be vague
but can also include
belching, heartburn,
bloating and nausea.

3. How to Treat Indigestion at
Home
1. Peppermint tea
Peppermint is more than a breath
freshener. It also has an
antispasmodic effect on the
body, making it a great choice
for relieving stomach problems
like nausea and indigestion.
Drink a cup of peppermint tea
after meals to quickly soothe
your stomach or keep a few
pieces of peppermint in your
pocket and suck on the candy
after eating.

4. While peppermint can ease
indigestion, you shouldn’t
drink or eat peppermint when
indigestion is caused by acid
reflux. Because peppermint
relaxes the lower esophageal
sphincter — the muscle
between the stomach and the
esophagus — drinking or
eating it can cause stomach
acid to flow back into the
esophagus and worsen acid
reflux. Peppermint tea is not
recommended for people with
GERD or ulcers.

5. 2. Chamomile tea
Chamomile tea is known to
help induce sleep and calm
anxiety. This herb can also ease
gut discomfort and relieve
indigestion by reducing stomach
acid in the gastrointestinal tract.
Chamomile also acts as an anti-
inflammatory to stop pain.
To prepare chamomile tea, place
one or two teabags in boiling
water for 10 minutes. Pour in a
cup and add honey, if desired.
Drink the tea as needed to stop
indigestion.
6. 3. Apple cider vinegar
The claimed health benefits of apple cider
vinegar range from improving the condition
of skin to encouraging weight loss. It may
also help to ease indigestion.
Since too little stomach acid can trigger
indigestion, drink apple cider vinegar to
increase your body’s production of stomach
acid. Add one to two teaspoons of raw,
unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to a cup of
water and drink for fast relief. Or stop
indigestion before it occurs by drinking the
mixture 30 minutes before eating.
7. 4. Ginger
Ginger is another natural remedy for indigestion
because it can reduce stomach acid. The same
way too little stomach acid causes indigestion,
too much stomach acid has the same effect.
Drink a cup of ginger tea as needed to soothe
your stomach and get rid of indigestion. Other
options include sucking on ginger candy,
drinking ginger ale, or making your own ginger
water. Boil one or two pieces of ginger root in
four cups of water. Add flavor with lemon or
honey before drinking.
8. 5. Fennel seed
This antispasmodic herb can also remedy
indigestion after a meal, as well as soothe other
gastrointestinal problems like stomach
cramping, nausea, and bloating.
Put 1/2 teaspoon of crushed fennel seed in
water and allow it to boil for 10 minutes before
drinking. Drink fennel tea whenever you
experience indigestion. Another option is to
chew fennel seed after meals if certain foods
cause indigestion.

9. 6. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
Baking soda can quickly neutralize stomach
acid and relieve indigestion, bloating, and gas
after eating. For this remedy, add 1/2
teaspoon of baking soda to 4 ounces of warm
water and drink.
Sodium bicarbonate is generally safe and
nontoxic. But drinking large amounts of
baking soda can bring on a few unwelcome
side effects, such as constipation, diarrhea,
irritability, vomiting, and muscle spasms. If
you drink a solution containing 1/2 teaspoon
of baking soda for indigestion, don’t repeat for
at least two hours.
10. 7. Lemon water
The alkaline effect of lemon water also
neutralizes stomach acid and improves
digestion. Mix a tablespoon of lemon juice in
hot or warm water and drink a few minutes
before eating.
Along with easing indigestion, lemon water is
also an excellent source of vitamin C. However,
too much lemon water can wear down tooth
enamel and cause increased urination. To
protect your teeth, rinse your mouth with
water after drinking lemon water.
11. 8. Licorice root
Licorice root can calm muscle spasms and
inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract,
which both can trigger indigestion. Chew
licorice root for relief or add licorice root to
boiling water and drink the mixture.
Although effective for indigestion, licorice root
can cause sodium and potassium imbalances
and high blood pressure in large doses.
Consume no more than 2.5 grams of dried
licorice root per day for fast relief. Eat or drink
licorice root 30 minutes before eating or one
hour after eating for indigestion.

13. Carbo vegetabilis
This remedy relieves bloating
and gas in the stomach, with
belching.
Lycopodium
This remedy relieves
discomfort and indigestion,
with bloating around the
waist and gas, especially
after eating onions or garlic.

14. Natrum carbonicum
This remedy can be helpful to mild people who
have trouble digesting and assimilating many
foods and have to stay on restricted diets.
Indigestion, heartburn, and ulcers can occur if
offending foods are eaten. Milk or dairy
products can lead to flatulence or sputtery
diarrhea that leaves an empty feeling in the
stomach. Cravings for potatoes and sweets are
common; also milk, but it makes these people
sick, so they have usually learned to avoid it.

15. Nux vomica
This homeopathic remedy
relieves nausea and cramps
from indigestion, especially
after excessive eating of spicy
foods or drinking of alcohol.
Pulsatilla
This helps relieve gastric
discomfort caused by eating
too much fatty food, cakes
and ice cream, with bloating,
belching and slow digestion.
Dr.Humaira
16. Antimonium crudum
This relieves indigestion from eating too much,
especially rich or acidic foods or cured meat.
Symptoms are relieved by applying heat to the
abdomen.
Arsenicum album
This remedy may be indicated if a person feels
anxious, restless yet exhausted, and is worse
from the smell and sight of food. Burning pain
is felt in the stomach and esophagus, which
often is relieved by warmth and sitting up.
Vomiting and diarrhea are possible. Upsets
from spoiled food or from eating too much fruit
often respond to this remedy.
17. Bryonia
When this remedy is indicated, the stomach feels
heavy, with rising acid and a bitter or sour taste.
Pain and nausea are worse from motion of any
kind. The person may have a dry mouth and be
thirsty for long drinks, which may increase
discomfort. Bryonia is strongly suggested if a
person is grumpy and wants to stay completely
still and not be touched or talked to.
Cinchona officinalis
This remedy relieves bloating of the abdomen and
foul-smelling gas, sometimes with painless, but
exhausting, diarrhea.
Dr.Humaira
18. Colocynthis
This relieves abdominal cramps improved by
bending over, with strong pressure and heat.
Natrum phosphoricum
A sour taste in the mouth, an acid or burning
sensation in the stomach, sour vomiting,
regurgitated bits of food, and a yellow coating on
the tongue are all indications for this remedy. The
person may have problems after consuming dairy
products or too much sugar. Another indication
for Natrum phos is a craving for fried eggs
Dr.Humaira
19. Phosphorus
Burning pain in the stomach that
feels better from eating ice cream
or other cold, refreshing foods
suggests a need for this remedy.
The person is usually thirsty for
cold drinks, but often feels
nauseous or vomits once liquids
warm up in the stomach. People
needing Phosphorus may have a
tendency toward easy bleeding
and sometimes develop stomach
ulcers
