3. COMBATING FUEL
STABILITY ISSUES
The LOWINOX® FAO phenolic antioxidant range has been
developed to combat fuel stability issues. Added during
refinery stream treatment, fuel blending or storage, they
inhibit the formation of gums and peroxides by terminating
the free radical chain reactions involved in hydrocarbon
oxidation. Such behavior allows LOWINOX® FAO antioxidant
solutions to help provide optimum fuel performance in
today’s advanced technology engines.
4. Why refineries use
LOWINOX®
FAO
phenolic antioxidants
• More effective than (p)-PDA for low
olefin/sulfur fuels ( hydro treated, jet A,
ultra low sulfur diesel, aviation gasoline)
• Steric hindrance of hydroxyl group
reduces solubility in water
• Not reactive toward other gasoline
components/additives. No salts
• Preferred antioxidant at low
temperatures <1200
C
• Inhibit the formation of gums
and peroxides in fuels
• Remove the risk of engine oil deposit
formation caused by soluble gums
• Remove the risk of filter blockage
and failure caused by insoluble gums
• Remove the risk of plastic part
degradation caused by peroxides
