that everyone is treated equally under the law. As the gay rights movement gains momentum, more people are becoming more accepting of the idea
of same sex marriage. Despite what others say, same sex marriage should be legalized. Same sex marriage is a matter of basic human rights and
should be accepted, not only that, but gay marriage should be legalized because same sex marriage has no effect on the heterosexual community.
Those that oppose same sex marriage try to argue that allowing same sex marriage would be "attacking" traditional marriage, however, a 2009 study
prove otherwise. The study compared states that allowed gay marriage and the ones that prohibited it, discovering that opposite–sex marriage rates did
not differ in those states to a statistically significant degree. Authors of this study, Alexis Dinno and Chelsea Whitney, state that "We found that state
rates of opposite sex marriage in the U.S. from 1989–2009 do not significantly differ when same sex marriage and union laws are in force compared to
when they are not in force"

trying climb this social ladder and gain their civil rights. They have been seeking the government recognition as a domestic partnership since the

legal union between a man and a woman. This prevented same sex couples, spouses from receiving benefits from the government and their job. Since

People who are in favor of same sex marriage agree that America would be most beneficial. Partners would be able to share insurance, pension
benefits, family leave benefits, joint tax filing, etc. Some small state would be able to use the legalization of same sex marriage as a money maker.
The extra money could be used in any way to better the state.
Those who don't agree with it believe that it undermines the traditional family. People believe that same sex marriage is wrong in more than one way.
It is not just the immorality of it, but also the disadvantages that come along with it. Politicians are forced to side with one or the other and face the
