Essay on A Discussion of Same-Sex Marriage
The topic of same–sex marriage, or gay marriage, is extremely divisive in today's society. This paper will address some of the issues surrounding gay
marriage. Many in favor of same–sex marriage suggest that gay couples should have the same marital benefits as heterosexual couples, which is simply
a civil rights issue. In contrast, those against same–sex marriage see this concept as a moral matter, which violates traditional ethical standards. Since the
beginning of time, most cultures have acknowledged marriage a unity between men and women. In addition, the concept of traditional marriages has
been challenged in some states to allow same–sex marriage as well. In response to this movement, many states have passed marriage laws to forbid

Thus, if two people of the same gender love each other, they should be allowed the same privileges as a straight couple. For instance, if a marriage is
about two people who love each other, the nation should acknowledge all unions instead of discriminating same–sex marriage. In other words, two
individuals with the same gender have the fundamental right to commit to each other, it is their person freedom and right.
In addition, now that gay marriage issues are being challenged, the desire for same–sex marriage is becoming more political. The gay community
desires like similar civil rights appointed to same–sex marriage as the traditional marriage. As an added bonus, the Washington, DC government office
recently announced they "... would no longer defend the constitutionality of [Defense of Marriage Act]...because [this act] unfairly discriminates
against [same sex marriage]" (Human Rights Campaign, 2011b). Since the majority of traditional marriages are based on love and eventually child
bearing, gay marriages are merely about two individuals expressing love and support to each other. Basically, the gay community expectation was to
hope those in the New York regime, for example, take their side of debate and consider their values. After a lengthy debate, from a political standpoint,
the gay marriage concept was considered. Consequently, congratulations are in order, the gay marriage appeal has been granted. The New York State

Same Sex Marriage Is Immoral And Unnatural
In recent years, same–sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it's right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with
something they believe is wrong; clearly, same–sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same–sex marriages including
financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks. Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God
created man and woman to be faithful and produce children. Same–sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is
incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about how immoral same–sex
marriage is. For example, Leviticus 18:22 states, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination". Marriage is a privilege, not
a right. It is not correct to redefine marriage away from the original meaning. Although it may have been a questionable business decision at the time,
the founders of Chick–fil–a took a stand on their Christian beliefs and close on Sundays allowing their employees to spend time with their families and
attend church. They also created a media frenzy by taking a stand against same–sex marriage with the surprising outcome that the normal population
showed extreme support for them. It was extremely difficult and took quite some time to successfully legalize same–sex marriage in every state. After

Same–sex marriage, otherwise called gay marriage, will be marriage between individuals of a similar sex, either as a common service or in a religious
setting. The term marriage correspondence alludes to a political status in which same–sex marriage and inverse sex marriage are thought about lawfully
equivalent.
In the late twentieth century, customs of marriage for same–sex couples without legitimate acknowledgment turned out to be progressively normal. The
principal law accommodating marriage of individuals of a similar sex in present day times was instituted in 2001 in the Netherlands. Starting at 15
November 2017, same–sex marriage is lawfully perceived. Polls demonstrate rising help for lawfully perceiving same–sex marriage in the Americas,
Australia and the greater part of Europe. However, starting at 2017, South Africa is the main African nation where same–sex marriage is perceived.
Taiwan would turn into the primary nation in Asia to authorize same–sex marriage if the Civil Code is revised. Two other Asian nations, to be specific
Israel and Armenia perceive same–sex relational unions performed outside the nation for some purposes.
Presentation of same–sex marriage laws has fluctuated by ward, being differently expert through authoritative change to marriage laws, a court
administering in view of established assurances of correspondence, or by coordinate prevalent vote (by means of poll activity or choice). The
acknowledgment of same–sex marriage is a political and

Same–Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam–Webster, is "the legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter
with purpose of making a home and raising a family" (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition, there
are a select few who do not. Some feel same–sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness,
and its religious immorality. My first argument addresses the effects of homosexual parents on children; and children affected byhomosexuality in
general. A child living in a home with homosexual parents encounters the problem of the lack of either a mother or...show more content...

Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Marriage
As the society changing, the history of marriage also changes. Marriage is legally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal
relationship, but do those two partners always have to be a man and a woman? Most people believe that homosexuals should be granted equal rights as
heterosexual couples. Being as an important social issue, same–sex marriage has become a hot topic of public debates in the recent years. For over the
past decade, public support for the same–sex marriage has quickly risen. The United States is one of over twenty countries that allow gay and lesbian
couples to wed. I believe that same–sex marriage should be legalized in all countries for several reasons, such as being an issue of equal rights,
separation of church and state, no negative effect on the heterosexual communities, increasing in child adoption, and decreasing divorce and suicide
rates.
First, it can clearly be seen that same–sex marriage is primarily about equality. Everyone has equal rights and liberties to chase happiness, as long as it
does not cause harm to the society, so why should their freedoms be limits? Why can't someone be able to marry a person they truly love?
Discrimination and banning homosexual couples to get married violates human rights and freedoms. Laws which against gay marriage deny the First
Amendment which states that everyone has freedom of speech, expression and religion. Sexual determination is an option, so it is how some people
can express themselves.

Same–Sex Marriage
The United States is known world wide for its civil rights and freedoms. Many Americans are appalled by the idea of same–sex marriages. What?s
wrong with the idea of two people who care greatly for one another wanting to spend their lives together? The gay community is misunderstood because
many straights are not willing to listen. These individuals would rather just be closed–minded in this situation and reticent to really think about what
this means to the gay community and the country. Same sex couples are not asking for any special rights; they are just asking to be treated equal with
opposite sex couples. The explanations given by many Americans against gay marriages are based on false assumptions and...show more content...
of heterosexual adult couples. Many insist that everyone needs to realize that gat relationships are immoral, and that god placed a man and a woman
on this earth for each other. This has nothing to do with whether gay marriages should be legal or not. This nation believes in freedom of religion as
well as the right of freedom from religion. If an American believes in religious freedom then he or she has no basis for this argument. Furthermore,
religious arguments should be immediately dismissed in the court of law. The straight community has fears for children who live in the home of a
same–sex marriage. However, there is no scientific evidence to support that children who are raised in the home of same–sex couples are not ?normal.?
Moreover, there are a number of dysfunctional heterosexual couples who have not provided a healthy, supportive environment needed to raise a
?normal? child. Then there is the argument of needing a man and a woman to raise a child. There is no scientific evidence to support that children
raised by a single never–married or unmarried parent are not ?normal.? Opponents of gay marriages argue that same sex marriage is an untried social
experiment. However, there are a number of countries that have permitted same sex–marriage including Denmark, Holland and Belgium. The Denmark
clergy have noted beneficial effects from legalizing same sex marriages. Another argument against same sex–marriage is that

Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage Same sex marriage is a global issue and it has been witnessed in many countries which have responded differently about the
issue. Same sex marriage is also referred to as gay marriage and it involves people of the same gender or sex getting married. The marriage can occur
either in a religious setting or even a secular ceremony. Marriage equality is another term that is used hand in hand with same–sex marriage and it means
that opposite sex and same–sex marriage can be regarded as equal and they are legal. The whole issue can be said to consist of lesbianism, gays,
bisexuality, intersex and transgender. This social issue started emerging towards the end of the last century, i.e. 20th century, and since then it has
become a topic under discussion due to different views and opinions from different people. Various countries have advocated for this idea of same–sex
marriages and they have even gone to the extent of changing the constitution in favor this issue. An example of such a country is Ireland which went
ahead and changed their constitution to allow same sex marriages in 2015. In countries such as Australia, the issue is still under debate and no
conclusion has been made. Same sex marriages have been viewed to have arguments which are meant to support and others to oppose it. The recent
surveys conducted have shown that the main reasons against gay marriage are that marriage is meant for a man and a woman only and not same–sex
marriage.

Same-Sex Marriage Essay
People can define marriage in numerous ways. By definition, to marry means to join together. So, a marriage would constitute as a joining together of
two individuals into a legal union, which means being joined as one. Some of the many purposes of marriage would include: family, companionship,
financial benefits, commitment, and love. Starting a family is an important part of getting married, as well as the commitment to love just the one
person for the rest of their lives. Financially, married couples would combine their savings into one big account, helping each other with purchases and
bills. Also, being in a marriage is a proud statement of the love one has for their spouse. All of these seem to be valid reasons to be in a union with

Homosexuals are exactly the same as heterosexuals, looking for the right person to be with for the rest of their lives. But, because of the prejudices
against the gay community, are not able to marry each other. Homosexuals are tired of being seen from a negative point of view and granting them the
right to marry would help normalize homosexuality in American culture. They want everything that comes with a marriage: the licenses, the vows,
the wedding rings, the anniversaries, the benefits, and even the responsibilities and routines. Denying the right to marry is a sure way to convey
that an adult is unable to make adult choices and is still considered to be a child, who is incompetent and is unable control itself. This is an unfair
assumption, and should not be made against others, even if their beliefs are different than ours or we don't agree with their choices. Also, with
marriage, the couple receives benefits that an unmarried couple would otherwise not receive. The lack of marriage can create numerous problems,
like if a spouse is in the hospital, only immediate family members would be allowed to see patients. A partner could be near death and would not be
able to see their significant other or have decisions made for them by their partner. If death were to occur, even very carefully drawn wills and strong
lawyers have proven to not be enough if a family wishes to challenge a

Society has many views on same sex relationships and marriages, people are either for it or against it. In this paper, we will first look at same sex
marriage in America and how homosexuals and heterosexuals feel about the issue. We will look into the ethical issue that same sexmarriage presents.
We will look at how the classical theory of how deontology would resolve the issue of same sex marriage. Next, we will contrast deontology with
the perspective of relativism. Finally, we will see which of these views on same sex marriage is closest to my own personal views. The ethical reason
behind why people in society believe that same sex marriage is wrong is simply due to discrimination. Society does not...show more content...
In 2004, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, the District of Columbia and two Native American tribal
jurisdictions have legalized same sex marriages. As the years go on, more and more same sex couples will continue to fight for their right to marry
who they choose and more states will eventually allow same sex couples their rights to marry whomever they choose (Koppelman, 2004).
Those that are oppose same sex marriage focus their reasoning on religious beliefs. Same sex couples do not want to be treated as second class
citizens, they do not focus on what religion states; they just want to be treated as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their right. Same sex
couples believe if one is to bar any class of people from marrying whomever they choose, it then deprives them of their social institution; that many
feel defines the most meaningful part of life, to marry someone one loves. Same sex couples believe that their relationships are no different than that of
a heterosexual marriage. Same sex couples can have maintain a home together, provide an environment that children can thrive in and care for each
other the same as heterosexual married couples do (Goldberg–Hiller, 2002).

The definition of marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship
recognized by law (Merriam–Webster). This dignified act is under constant threat by lesbian and gay couples protesting for equal rights in marriage.
Same sex marriage should be prohibited in the United States because the act will evoke multitudes of problems that will be impossible to manage.
The plentiful list of arguments against same sex marriage outweighs its opposite in all areas. For example, the case is commonly viewed as that if the
couple is in love, they should be allowed to marry. Love is not the only deciding factor people analyze on why to get...show more content...
Other farfetched ideas are being brought up because of the thought of same sex marriage. "Gay rights activists claim that these marriages should be
allowed because it does not hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage. If someone wants to marry his
dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? What if someone wants to marry their blow–up doll or have
10 wives?" (Messerli) The legalization of same sex marriage plays a huge role in the future outlook of the world and more changes to be made in
the ways the United States conducts itself. The children of the United States stand as a large issue in the decision of legalization ('Proposition 8').
Children need a healthy home lifestyle in order to be successful and prosper in the real world. A mother and a father can provide that healthy
lifestyle for their child. This process is the norm and it portrays a positive exposure to loving care of the couple's child/children in union, religious
faithfulness, and sets a good example that in the future the child is more likely to follow than a same sex marriage household would show (Dailey).
This type of normal behavior is extremely beneficial in the long and short run for the child/children, commonly taken for granted and much needed in
today's society. On the topic of admitting same sex marriage, "It confuses children about

Various groups of homosexuals are proposing same sex legalization. For them, officials from the government should at least legalize their stand for
the reason that they have also have rights as a human being, the right to love and the right to become happy. These people from various Gay

recognize their stand and respect them as citizens of the country. Any form of disapproval is a discriminating act because many of them has been
criticized by different religious organization because for these different religious conservatives, their love practices is very immoral and they are
committing a sin against God and the society and therefore the law should not grant them in trying to marry a person of the same sex.
The gays and the lesbians are really pursuing the law about same sex marriages. And by passing the law, their life would be much more fulfilled.

Same sex marriage has been a topic on the rise throughout the U.S. It is what some of us may consider one of the more important topics of
discussion for this time period. So far 17 states out of 50 have declared same sex marriage legal (States, 2013). Same sex marriage should be legal
throughout the U.S. because same sex couples have a civil right to get married, along with a right to have access to the same benefits as heterosexual
couples, and to be treated as equals without fear of discrimination. Same sex marriage is a civil right. In 1958 a couple named Richard and Mildred

In February 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court wrote an opinion to the state Senate stating that having civil unions instead of marriages
wasn't acceptable because allowing same sex couples to have a civil union, but not allowing them to be married, makes gay couples seem as if
they were considered as second class status (Gay Marriage Legal, n.d.). As a matter of fact the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill recently,
which would have allowed business owners the right to refuse service to gay couples based on religion (Santos, 2014). However, as discussed in
class during one of the presentations, how would you differentiate between who is doing it for religious purposes and who is doing it because they
discriminate against same sex couples? Chuck Coughlin, a public affairs consultant who worked with the Governor of Arizona and her team when
she was elected, said in regards to this bill that, "We already have laws to sufficiently protect peoples religious freedom in this country and this bill
could actually empower people to discriminate"(Santos, 2014). On the other side many people claim that it has nothing to do with discrimination and
everything to do with religion. For example, the people who say they want to use the Arizona bill for their own religious purposes. Many people

"The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly held that marriage is one of the most fundamental rights that we have as Americans under our

Analysis Of Same Sex Marriage
Marriage is now commonly defined as a 'legally or formally recognized union of two partners in a personal relationship'. However, this is commonly
associated in society as a union from which children are conceived. Same sex marriage is often then seen as unnatural as children cannot be conceived
natural and is this deemed unnatural and is 'contrary to the ordinary course of nature'. I disagree with this argument because homosexual people don't
choose to be gay and therefore I don't think that his is unnatural. Whilst same sex couples can't have children naturally within marriage, I don't think that
the purpose of marriage is to have children and therefore I see no reason why same sex marriage isn't natural.
In Leviticus, it says that 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination'. According to Aquinas, this then means that same sex
marriage is unnatural because it goes against Divine law as it is contrary to the messages portrayed in the Bible. Aquinas argues that one of the
primary precepts of life is to reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is unnatural because same sex couples can't reproduce naturally, and goes
against the idea that reproduction is the 'Final Cause' of sex within marriage. Additionally same sex marriage could be argued to be going against
eternal law as God created Adam and Eve so that they could reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is going against God's wishes for humanity
and goes against the idea of marriage as a

Homophobia is an issue that has been around for ages, yet, it still goes unresolved. Same sex marriage is still illegal in many countries and hate
crimes go unreported. We need to work together as human beings to try and normalize it. Same sex marriage should be legalized because it is an
issue of human rights. Gay rights are human rights, furthermore, it has no effect on the heterosexual community, and allowing gay marriage ensures
that everyone is treated equally under the law. As the gay rights movement gains momentum, more people are becoming more accepting of the idea
of same sex marriage. Despite what others say, same sex marriage should be legalized. Same sex marriage is a matter of basic human rights and
should be accepted, not only that, but gay marriage should be legalized because same sex marriage has no effect on the heterosexual community.
Those that oppose same sex marriage try to argue that allowing same sex marriage would be "attacking" traditional marriage, however, a 2009 study
prove otherwise. The study compared states that allowed gay marriage and the ones that prohibited it, discovering that opposite–sex marriage rates did
not differ in those states to a statistically significant degree. Authors of this study, Alexis Dinno and Chelsea Whitney, state that "We found that state

Many years ago one may have thought that marriage was just between a man and a woman but today that is not always the case. People of this era
have now begun to exploring a new aspect of marriage, same sex marriage. Should two people of the same sex be allowed to marry?
Throughout the years same sex couples have been pursuing the same rights as heterosexual couples. Since the 1970s homosexual couples have been
trying climb this social ladder and gain their civil rights. They have been seeking the government recognition as a domestic partnership since the
1980's. it wasn't until the late 1990s when the state of California legalized domestic partnership but very few followed. This allowed extended rights to

They appealed the case, but lost it again at the appellate level. The court decided that the district can deny marriage licenses to same sex couples.
State governments have been placing bands on gay marriage since the mid 1990,s. More than 80 anti–marriage bills have come into effect, beginning in
1996. Congress passed and President Clinton signed the "Defense of Marriage Act". This bill was also passed in 1996 and defined marriage as a
legal union between a man and a woman. This prevented same sex couples, spouses from receiving benefits from the government and their job. Since
then nine states have not banded gay marriage: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Rhode
Island, and Vermont.
People who are in favor of same sex marriage agree that America would be most beneficial. Partners would be able to share insurance, pension
benefits, family leave benefits, joint tax filing, etc. Some small state would be able to use the legalization of same sex marriage as a money maker.
The extra money could be used in any way to better the state.
Those who don't agree with it believe that it undermines the traditional family. People believe that same sex marriage is wrong in more than one way.
It is not just the immorality of it, but also the disadvantages that come along with it. Politicians are forced to side with one or the other and face the
possibility of losing some

Essay On A Discussion Of Same-Sex Marriage

  • 1. Essay on A Discussion of Same-Sex Marriage The topic of same–sex marriage, or gay marriage, is extremely divisive in today's society. This paper will address some of the issues surrounding gay marriage. Many in favor of same–sex marriage suggest that gay couples should have the same marital benefits as heterosexual couples, which is simply a civil rights issue. In contrast, those against same–sex marriage see this concept as a moral matter, which violates traditional ethical standards. Since the beginning of time, most cultures have acknowledged marriage a unity between men and women. In addition, the concept of traditional marriages has been challenged in some states to allow same–sex marriage as well. In response to this movement, many states have passed marriage laws to forbid ...show more content... Thus, if two people of the same gender love each other, they should be allowed the same privileges as a straight couple. For instance, if a marriage is about two people who love each other, the nation should acknowledge all unions instead of discriminating same–sex marriage. In other words, two individuals with the same gender have the fundamental right to commit to each other, it is their person freedom and right. In addition, now that gay marriage issues are being challenged, the desire for same–sex marriage is becoming more political. The gay community desires like similar civil rights appointed to same–sex marriage as the traditional marriage. As an added bonus, the Washington, DC government office recently announced they "... would no longer defend the constitutionality of [Defense of Marriage Act]...because [this act] unfairly discriminates against [same sex marriage]" (Human Rights Campaign, 2011b). Since the majority of traditional marriages are based on love and eventually child bearing, gay marriages are merely about two individuals expressing love and support to each other. Basically, the gay community expectation was to hope those in the New York regime, for example, take their side of debate and consider their values. After a lengthy debate, from a political standpoint, the gay marriage concept was considered. Consequently, congratulations are in order, the gay marriage appeal has been granted. • 2. Same Sex Marriage Is Immoral And Unnatural In recent years, same–sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it's right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same–sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same–sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks. Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful and produce children. Same–sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about how immoral same–sex marriage is. For example, Leviticus 18:22 states, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination". Marriage is a privilege, not a right. It is not correct to redefine marriage away from the original meaning. Although it may have been a questionable business decision at the time, the founders of Chick–fil–a took a stand on their Christian beliefs and close on Sundays allowing their employees to spend time with their families and attend church. They also created a media frenzy by taking a stand against same–sex marriage with the surprising outcome that the normal population showed extreme support for them. It was extremely difficult and took quite some time to successfully legalize same–sex marriage in every state. After Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On Same Sex Marriage Same–sex marriage, otherwise called gay marriage, will be marriage between individuals of a similar sex, either as a common service or in a religious setting. The term marriage correspondence alludes to a political status in which same–sex marriage and inverse sex marriage are thought about lawfully equivalent. In the late twentieth century, customs of marriage for same–sex couples without legitimate acknowledgment turned out to be progressively normal. The principal law accommodating marriage of individuals of a similar sex in present day times was instituted in 2001 in the Netherlands. Starting at 15 November 2017, same–sex marriage is lawfully perceived. Polls demonstrate rising help for lawfully perceiving same–sex marriage in the Americas, Australia and the greater part of Europe. However, starting at 2017, South Africa is the main African nation where same–sex marriage is perceived. Taiwan would turn into the primary nation in Asia to authorize same–sex marriage if the Civil Code is revised. Two other Asian nations, to be specific Israel and Armenia perceive same–sex relational unions performed outside the nation for some purposes. Presentation of same–sex marriage laws has fluctuated by ward, being differently expert through authoritative change to marriage laws, a court administering in view of established assurances of correspondence, or by coordinate prevalent vote (by means of poll activity or choice). The acknowledgment of same–sex marriage is a political and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Same Sex Marriage 11/8/06 Argument Essay Same–Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam–Webster, is "the legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter with purpose of making a home and raising a family" (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition, there are a select few who do not. Some feel same–sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness, and its religious immorality. My first argument addresses the effects of homosexual parents on children; and children affected byhomosexuality in general. A child living in a home with homosexual parents encounters the problem of the lack of either a mother or...show more content... • 5. Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Marriage As the society changing, the history of marriage also changes. Marriage is legally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship, but do those two partners always have to be a man and a woman? Most people believe that homosexuals should be granted equal rights as heterosexual couples. Being as an important social issue, same–sex marriage has become a hot topic of public debates in the recent years. For over the past decade, public support for the same–sex marriage has quickly risen. The United States is one of over twenty countries that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed. I believe that same–sex marriage should be legalized in all countries for several reasons, such as being an issue of equal rights, separation of church and state, no negative effect on the heterosexual communities, increasing in child adoption, and decreasing divorce and suicide rates. First, it can clearly be seen that same–sex marriage is primarily about equality. Everyone has equal rights and liberties to chase happiness, as long as it does not cause harm to the society, so why should their freedoms be limits? Why can't someone be able to marry a person they truly love? Discrimination and banning homosexual couples to get married violates human rights and freedoms. Laws which against gay marriage deny the First Amendment which states that everyone has freedom of speech, expression and religion. Sexual determination is an option, so it is how some people can express themselves. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Same-Sex Marriage Essays Same–Sex Marriage The United States is known world wide for its civil rights and freedoms. Many Americans are appalled by the idea of same–sex marriages. What?s wrong with the idea of two people who care greatly for one another wanting to spend their lives together? The gay community is misunderstood because many straights are not willing to listen. These individuals would rather just be closed–minded in this situation and reticent to really think about what this means to the gay community and the country. Same sex couples are not asking for any special rights; they are just asking to be treated equal with opposite sex couples. The explanations given by many Americans against gay marriages are based on false assumptions and...show more content... of heterosexual adult couples. Many insist that everyone needs to realize that gat relationships are immoral, and that god placed a man and a woman on this earth for each other. This has nothing to do with whether gay marriages should be legal or not. This nation believes in freedom of religion as well as the right of freedom from religion. If an American believes in religious freedom then he or she has no basis for this argument. Furthermore, religious arguments should be immediately dismissed in the court of law. The straight community has fears for children who live in the home of a same–sex marriage. However, there is no scientific evidence to support that children who are raised in the home of same–sex couples are not ?normal.? Moreover, there are a number of dysfunctional heterosexual couples who have not provided a healthy, supportive environment needed to raise a ?normal? child. Then there is the argument of needing a man and a woman to raise a child. There is no scientific evidence to support that children raised by a single never–married or unmarried parent are not ?normal.? Opponents of gay marriages argue that same sex marriage is an untried social experiment. However, there are a number of countries that have permitted same sex–marriage including Denmark, Holland and Belgium. The Denmark clergy have noted beneficial effects from legalizing same sex marriages. Another argument against same sex–marriage is that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage Same sex marriage is a global issue and it has been witnessed in many countries which have responded differently about the issue. Same sex marriage is also referred to as gay marriage and it involves people of the same gender or sex getting married. The marriage can occur either in a religious setting or even a secular ceremony. Marriage equality is another term that is used hand in hand with same–sex marriage and it means that opposite sex and same–sex marriage can be regarded as equal and they are legal. The whole issue can be said to consist of lesbianism, gays, bisexuality, intersex and transgender. This social issue started emerging towards the end of the last century, i.e. 20th century, and since then it has become a topic under discussion due to different views and opinions from different people. Various countries have advocated for this idea of same–sex marriages and they have even gone to the extent of changing the constitution in favor this issue. An example of such a country is Ireland which went ahead and changed their constitution to allow same sex marriages in 2015. In countries such as Australia, the issue is still under debate and no conclusion has been made. Same sex marriages have been viewed to have arguments which are meant to support and others to oppose it. The recent surveys conducted have shown that the main reasons against gay marriage are that marriage is meant for a man and a woman only and not same–sex marriage. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Same-Sex Marriage Essay People can define marriage in numerous ways. By definition, to marry means to join together. So, a marriage would constitute as a joining together of two individuals into a legal union, which means being joined as one. Some of the many purposes of marriage would include: family, companionship, financial benefits, commitment, and love. Starting a family is an important part of getting married, as well as the commitment to love just the one person for the rest of their lives. Financially, married couples would combine their savings into one big account, helping each other with purchases and bills. Also, being in a marriage is a proud statement of the love one has for their spouse. All of these seem to be valid reasons to be in a union with ...show more content... Homosexuals are exactly the same as heterosexuals, looking for the right person to be with for the rest of their lives. But, because of the prejudices against the gay community, are not able to marry each other. Homosexuals are tired of being seen from a negative point of view and granting them the right to marry would help normalize homosexuality in American culture. They want everything that comes with a marriage: the licenses, the vows, the wedding rings, the anniversaries, the benefits, and even the responsibilities and routines. Denying the right to marry is a sure way to convey that an adult is unable to make adult choices and is still considered to be a child, who is incompetent and is unable control itself. This is an unfair assumption, and should not be made against others, even if their beliefs are different than ours or we don't agree with their choices. Also, with marriage, the couple receives benefits that an unmarried couple would otherwise not receive. The lack of marriage can create numerous problems, like if a spouse is in the hospital, only immediate family members would be allowed to see patients. A partner could be near death and would not be able to see their significant other or have decisions made for them by their partner. If death were to occur, even very carefully drawn wills and strong lawyers have proven to not be enough if a family wishes to challenge a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay On Same Sex Marriage The topic for same–sex marriage is a very emotional and spicey topic. Marriage is a beautiful ceremony to celebrate the unity of two becoming one. However, when we put aside emotions from facts there are clear reasons to support the cons sided of same sex marriage. Lets try for a moment to do something that most of us rarely do. Allow me to persay you to consider the other accuracy of the other side when it come to same sex marriage. That is can you for a few minutes go against what you believe? Medical benefits and taxes vary in the situation between male and female couples and same sex couples. Income taxes will be increased to make up for marriage tax benefits of same–sex couples. Male and female couples get less taxes to be able to have they money to stabilize the family. Same sex couples can't reproduce so they have more taxes due to the lack of not needing as much money and and not being able to help increase the population. Medical insurance premiums will rise to offset offset the high cost associated with same sex behavior. The male and female couples have less bills and expenses. However, same sex couples deal with more medical issues. Such as, colon cancer, fertility treatment and ect. Same sex couples have to give up many benefits male and female couples get help with. There is often a false assumption that strong feelings should determine behavior. Although, this statement is not accepted in most of life situations and problems. • 10. Ethics of Same Sex Marriage Essay Ethics of Same Sex Marriage Society has many views on same sex relationships and marriages, people are either for it or against it. In this paper, we will first look at same sex marriage in America and how homosexuals and heterosexuals feel about the issue. We will look into the ethical issue that same sexmarriage presents. We will look at how the classical theory of how deontology would resolve the issue of same sex marriage. Next, we will contrast deontology with the perspective of relativism. Those that are oppose same sex marriage focus their reasoning on religious beliefs. Same sex couples do not want to be treated as second class citizens, they do not focus on what religion states; they just want to be treated as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their right. Same sex couples believe if one is to bar any class of people from marrying whomever they choose, it then deprives them of their social institution; that many feel defines the most meaningful part of life, to marry someone one loves. Same sex couples believe that their relationships are no different than that of a heterosexual marriage. Same sex couples can have maintain a home together, provide an environment that children can thrive in and care for each other the same as heterosexual married couples do (Goldberg–Hiller, 2002). Same Sex Marriage Disagreement Same Sex Marriage Disagreement The definition of marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (Merriam–Webster). This dignified act is under constant threat by lesbian and gay couples protesting for equal rights in marriage. Same sex marriage should be prohibited in the United States because the act will evoke multitudes of problems that will be impossible to manage. Other farfetched ideas are being brought up because of the thought of same sex marriage. "Gay rights activists claim that these marriages should be allowed because it does not hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage. If someone wants to marry his dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? What if someone wants to marry their blow–up doll or have 10 wives?" (Messerli) The legalization of same sex marriage plays a huge role in the future outlook of the world and more changes to be made in the ways the United States conducts itself. The children of the United States stand as a large issue in the decision of legalization ('Proposition 8'). Children need a healthy home lifestyle in order to be successful and prosper in the real world. A mother and a father can provide that healthy lifestyle for their child. This process is the norm and it portrays a positive exposure to loving care of the couple's child/children in union, religious faithfulness, and sets a good example that in the future the child is more likely to follow than a same sex marriage household would show (Dailey). This type of normal behavior is extremely beneficial in the long and short run for the child/children, commonly taken for granted and much needed in today's society. These people from various Gay Organizations also expressed that banning them from getting married is an act of violation against their rights. The government should at least recognize their stand and respect them as citizens of the country. • 13. Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage has been a topic on the rise throughout the U.S. It is what some of us may consider one of the more important topics of discussion for this time period. So far 17 states out of 50 have declared same sex marriage legal (States, 2013). Same sex marriage should be legal throughout the U.S. because same sex couples have a civil right to get married, along with a right to have access to the same benefits as heterosexual couples, and to be treated as equals without fear of discrimination. Same sex marriage is a civil right. In 1958 a couple named Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested in their home for interracial marriage in Virginia, which happened to be illegal at the time. They received a 1–year jail sentence, which was...show more content... In February 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court wrote an opinion to the state Senate stating that having civil unions instead of marriages wasn't acceptable because allowing same sex couples to have a civil union, but not allowing them to be married, makes gay couples seem as if they were considered as second class status (Gay Marriage Legal, n.d.). As a matter of fact the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill recently, which would have allowed business owners the right to refuse service to gay couples based on religion (Santos, 2014). However, as discussed in class during one of the presentations, how would you differentiate between who is doing it for religious purposes and who is doing it because they discriminate against same sex couples? Chuck Coughlin, a public affairs consultant who worked with the Governor of Arizona and her team when she was elected, said in regards to this bill that, "We already have laws to sufficiently protect peoples religious freedom in this country and this bill could actually empower people to discriminate"(Santos, 2014). On the other side many people claim that it has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with religion. For example, the people who say they want to use the Arizona bill for their own religious purposes. Many people believe in what the Bible says. Gays are being denied their basic rights for the simple fact that laws have yet to evolved with the rest of the world. Why does someone else get to decide their given right to marry? The Supreme Court has said that marriage is a part of the Constitution's protections of liberty, privacy, freedom of association, and spiritual identification. • 17. Analysis Of Same Sex Marriage Marriage is now commonly defined as a 'legally or formally recognized union of two partners in a personal relationship'. However, this is commonly associated in society as a union from which children are conceived. Same sex marriage is often then seen as unnatural as children cannot be conceived natural and is this deemed unnatural and is 'contrary to the ordinary course of nature'. I disagree with this argument because homosexual people don't choose to be gay and therefore I don't think that his is unnatural. Whilst same sex couples can't have children naturally within marriage, I don't think that the purpose of marriage is to have children and therefore I see no reason why same sex marriage isn't natural. In Leviticus, it says that 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination'. According to Aquinas, this then means that same sex marriage is unnatural because it goes against Divine law as it is contrary to the messages portrayed in the Bible. Aquinas argues that one of the primary precepts of life is to reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is unnatural because same sex couples can't reproduce naturally, and goes against the idea that reproduction is the 'Final Cause' of sex within marriage. Additionally same sex marriage could be argued to be going against eternal law as God created Adam and Eve so that they could reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is going against God's wishes for humanity and goes against the idea of marriage as a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Essay On Same Sex Marriage Homophobia is an issue that has been around for ages, yet, it still goes unresolved. Same sex marriage is still illegal in many countries and hate crimes go unreported. We need to work together as human beings to try and normalize it. Same sex marriage should be legalized because it is an issue of human rights. Gay rights are human rights, furthermore, it has no effect on the heterosexual community, and allowing gay marriage ensures that everyone is treated equally under the law. As the gay rights movement gains momentum, more people are becoming more accepting of the idea of same sex marriage. Despite what others say, same sex marriage should be legalized. Same sex marriage is a matter of basic human rights and should be accepted, not only that, but gay marriage should be legalized because same sex marriage has no effect on the heterosexual community. Those that oppose same sex marriage try to argue that allowing same sex marriage would be "attacking" traditional marriage, however, a 2009 study prove otherwise. The study compared states that allowed gay marriage and the ones that prohibited it, discovering that opposite–sex marriage rates did not differ in those states to a statistically significant degree. Authors of this study, Alexis Dinno and Chelsea Whitney, state that "We found that state rates of opposite sex marriage in the U.S. from 1989–2009 do not significantly differ when same sex marriage and union laws are in force compared to when they are not in force" Get more content on HelpWriting.net

People of this era have now begun to exploring a new aspect of marriage, same sex marriage. Should two people of the same sex be allowed to marry? Throughout the years same sex couples have been pursuing the same rights as heterosexual couples. Since the 1970s homosexual couples have been trying climb this social ladder and gain their civil rights. They have been seeking the government recognition as a domestic partnership since the 1980's. it wasn't until the late 1990s when the state of California legalized domestic partnership but very few followed. The court decided that the district can deny marriage licenses to same sex couples. State governments have been placing bands on gay marriage since the mid 1990,s. More than 80 anti–marriage bills have come into effect, beginning in 1996. Congress passed and President Clinton signed the "Defense of Marriage Act". This bill was also passed in 1996 and defined marriage as a legal union between a man and a woman. This prevented same sex couples, spouses from receiving benefits from the government and their job. Since then nine states have not banded gay marriage: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Vermont. People who are in favor of same sex marriage agree that America would be most beneficial. Partners would be able to share insurance, pension benefits, family leave benefits, joint tax filing, etc. Some small state would be able to use the legalization of same sex marriage as a money maker. The extra money could be used in any way to better the state. Those who don't agree with it believe that it undermines the traditional family.
