Pirates from around the world moved toward America during its Golden Age of Piracy, seeking to establish it as a free nation for pirates. They captured much of the American land and engaged in violence and raids in port cities. Eventually powerful pirate factions fought one another, concluding the pirate zone, while the military also worked to clear the land and fight remaining pirates. New government rules were then put in place.
