 Progressive dysfunction of two or more organ systems
resulting from an uncontrolled inflammatory response
to severe illness or injury
 Most common caused by septic shock
 Trauma, burn, major surgery, acute pancreatitis, ARDS
 Lung is first organ to fail.
 After 7-10 days sign of liver and kidney failure appear.
 14-24 days gastrointestinal dysfunction
