2. ALCOHOLOC LIVER DISEASE
• Alcoholic liver disease is damage to the liver and its
function due to alcohol abuse.
• Alcoholic liver disease occurs after years of heavy
drinking. Over time, scarring and cirrhosis can occur.
Cirrhosis is the final phase of alcoholic liver disease.
• Alcoholic liver disease does not occur in all heavy
drinkers. The chances of getting liver disease go up
the longer you have been drinking and more alcohol
you consume.

SYMPTOMS
There may be no symptoms, or symptoms may come on slowly, depending
on how well the liver is working. Symptoms tend to be worse after a period of
heavy drinking.
Early symptoms include:
•Fatigue and loss of energy
•Poor appetite and weight loss
•Nausea
•Small, red spider-like blood vessels on the skin
As liver function worsens, symptoms may include:
•Fluid buildup of the legs (edema) and in the abdomen (ascites)
•Yellow color in the skin, mucous membranes, or eyes (jaundice)
•Redness on the palms of the hands
•Confusion or problems thinking
•Pale or clay-colored stools

11. PREVENTION(LIFE STYLE MODIFICAION)
What your body does not need
1. Avoid alcohol.
2. Avoid foods that contain trans fat.
3. Reduce Sodium intake.
WHAT TO TAKE: 1. Eat foods high in potassium to offset salt
intake. Bananas, Kiwi, apricots, raisins, tomato puree, baked
or roasted potatoes, veal and nuts, will all assist in ridding the
body of excess sodium.
2. Enjoy light to moderate physical activity, such as walking,
swimming, gardening
3.Build up slowly to 30 to 60 minutes of activity, at least 4
times a week.
4. Avoid food poisoning by storing and preparing foods safely.
Wash your hands often.

• Salt, canned and processed foods must be limited.
• Focus on lower saturated fat choices with each meal.
• Drink 6 to 8 glasses of fluids every day.
