Meaning of Teaching
Teaching is a process in which one
individual teaches or instructs
another individual.
The ability to impart knowledge.
Teaching is an ability which provide
new knowledge to people.
Definition of Teaching
 According to H.C MORRISON “ Teaching is an
intimate contact between the more mature
personality and a less mature one.
 According to JACKSON “ Teaching is face to face
encounters between two or more persons , one of
whom (teacher) intends to effect certain changes in
the other participants ( students).
 According to J.B HOUGH & JAMES DUNCAN “
Teaching is an activity with three phases i.e. A
curriculum planning phase, an instructing phase , an
evaluating phase .
Characteristics of Teaching
o Teaching causes a change in behaviour.
o Teaching is a process of development &
learning.
o Teaching is a face to face encounter.
o Teaching is an interactive process between
the student & teacher.
o Teaching is an art as well as science.
o Teaching is both conscious & unconscious
process.
Types of Teaching
Teaching involves different types
which are as follows-
oLecture based teaching.
oTechnology based teaching.
oIndividual based teaching.
oGame based teaching.
Difference between Teaching Instruction &
Conditioning
 In instruction
development of
knowledge aspect is
possible.
 Instruction arouses only
thinking.
 Instruction aims at
producing carbon copy
or photo copy.
 Instruction work for skill
development.
 Conditioning aims at
modification of behaviour
and learning of habits.
 Condition is narrow in
scope.
 It plays vital role in
conditioning.
 It is fixed in conditioning.
Difference between Training & Indoctrination
 Training is practical
oriented.
 Training help to learn
new tools & techniques
to apply on knowledge.
 Training shapes our
habit.
 Training provide depth
knowledge in specific
sphere.
 Indoctrination aims at
influencing people to
believe in facts.
 Indoctrination tends to
use language that
encompasses
everything at all.
 It poses to believe that
there is only one
solution.
 Indoctrination has n
agenda to encourage
another beliefs.
