Discuss bullying. Draw the distinction between “traditional” bullying and “cyber”
bullying.
Traditional bullying to me is any kind of physical, emotional, social or
psychological abuse that is done by one or more parties to another individual or a group
of individuals. Physical can be any form of violence such as punching them, sticking
them in a trashcan, etc. Emotional bullying to me is when a bully tries to play with the
emotions of an individual to get them to feel bad, however to most people this can be an
underlying part of psychological abuse, but I feel like it should be separated into a
category all in its own. Social abuse is when you try and attack the individual’s social
status and try to make them have less friends at the place they are located. Psychological
abuse is any kind of brain games that affect the individual’s ability to think straight, this
can be having them afraid of different things or having them to the point where they are
socially wired to please you. In all of these forms of abuse the person who does the
bullying is known to all parties involved and happen face to face, usually.
Cyber bullying is done online by an individual or a group of people to harm
someone else while keeping their anonymousness. This can be attacking someone’s
pictures on a social networking site, spamming them with hate mail, threatening them
from a fake profile or even stealing their information and making a fake account for them
and trashing them. The sad part about cyber bullying is that almost everyone has access
to it and can join in and don’t usually have to see the consequences that they are doing to
the individual till it is too late. Since most of the cyber bullies are anonymous, they don’t
tend to get caught as often as the ones who commit the more traditional forms of
bullying.

However, no matter which kind of bullying is done, it isn’t right and usually leads
to a lot of problems for both the bully and the individual. The individual who is bullied is
usually the topic of most bully studies due to the high rate of suicides and school
shootings that result from such, however the bully is also a victim in this situation as
well. The bully usually has a bad future ahead of them and like you said in class, they
tend to have at least some jail time by the time they are 24.
