Why you choose Urban-planning as your major in university?
My dad grew up in the poor country village, though the life now has been improved a lot after several decades fighting. My family will annually go back to the familiar countryside to
commemorate the ancestors. But every time I backed to the countryside, I found that this area as poor and lacks of planning as before, namely, has not changed even a little. Before I went into the
university, I hoped to choose a major that could teach me knowledges that I could do something to my ancient village, so I finally chose urban-planning as my major.
What have you learn in your major in university in the 4 years time?
Before into the university, I was a blank paper, but after 4-year-education, now I get the basic ability in my major, not only learned the basic knowledges in my field but also the skills, such
as software, painting, photography, etc. And the most important, I meet the warm-hearted and erudite teachers and friends.
What’s your dream?
As the answer in the first question, I would to do something to change the China poor situation of the countryside, not only my village, if I was able enough, I want to serve more area that needs
the planning for the better life. That is my original dream.
What the thoughts do you think upon the environment and urban planning situation of your country?
As we all know, China is a developing country, it is still on the way to strive into the perfect country, so it still exists problems in every dimension. In urban-planning, there would a large area
needed the new planning or needed replanning in my country, many place are lacking of the scientific arrangement, facilities and mature policies
What’s your plan in 5 years?
I want to have 2 years study abroad to open my eyes also learn the top techniques and knowledge. After the master degree, I would try to find a job in the urban planning department or
design office in America for 1 year or several months before I back to my country, because I want to work in modern environment to cultivate my thought and ability. Finally, I would back to my
country and use the knowledge to where really needs some changes.

This school assignment’s goal is to let student to do some research on how to
use the color. My work is based on the ancient giant Piet Cornelia’s Mondrian
style to start my research about the feeling of different colors combined together.
Yellow, red, blue and black combines together with different proportion maybe
could bring the different feeling to people who watching the painting. Whether it is

Introduction
Piet Cornelia’s Mondrian (1872-1944), Netherlands painter,
the vanguard of geometric abstract style, uses the geometric
figure as the basic element for his painting art, and has the
long-lasting impact on architecture, industrial art, craft design.

Black: Giving the feeling of equanimity, control, weight and calm.
Blue: Blue is Cool color. It gives the feeling of sadness, worry,
solemnity and imagination.
Yellow: Yellow is warm color. It gives the feeling of lightness,
happiness, health and promotion.
Red: Red is warm color. It gives the feeling of hotness, stimulation,
fire and motivation.

In the color ratio, the painting would bring the active, hot,
stimulation sensation to the audience.
Piet used the colors (red, yellow, blue, black) with different
ratio to fill in the blank lattice. This geometric style art really
could bring a strong visional impact.

In this color ratio, the audience would automatically focus on
the yellow color, and the large proportion of yellow would give
the light and happy sensation.
The first step is to use the thick line to define and restrict the
space with the logical rhythm

depressed, grave feeling, and as I am concerned, I do not like

This research wants to use the parametric method to design the new and efficient
landscape path. As we all know, nowadays the paths in the park are built in the
restricted form with the regular edges. In this research, I want to find the new
path that breaks the restricted form but also could maintain guiding function as
the regular path. The new path would not get the visible restricted edge, instead,
using the square pavement gradually change to serve as the path.

This project is located in Majialong residential district, Shenzhen, China. As we
all know, the residential district is enclosed by the wall in four directions, so this
closed space, to some extent, is lacking the vividness, and lacking the space to
enact the communication social activities. Why not to build the public architecture
to bring the whole district the new function. Beyond a kindergarten, it would be
the community stage to provide the public area for people live in the district to do
the social activities, so that enhance the relationship between person to person,
and finally create the strong combined unity of the .
Target:
1. To build a kindergarten in the middle of Majialong community, and the site area
is 9580m2
.
2. Beyond the kindergarten, I hope it could be community stage that could enact
the whole community block.

As the dotted line shows, there is a main road in the south of the site.
The autos would through the minor road in the community to join into the city
main road to do the commuting. The blue boxes mean the working and business
buildings which includes both of the private and -own companies, and
the working area is arrange in the southern area near the city main road.
Public building
There are two public education buildings in the community. In the west of the site
is high school, while in the north-east is the primary school, and these two schools
serve the community well.
Residential buildings
The red boxes are the residential buildings, as you see, the residential land use
occupy the large proportion of the community. The road that dotted line shows
is the main traffic road of the whole community, and this road pierce through the
community in the middle. As you see, the site is the core place in middle near the
community main road.
Elevation
As the color shows, the elevation would be higher as the color is deeper. The
elevation is divided three classes: under 6F, 6F~12F and above 12F. The light red
is under 6F, the middle red is 6~12F, the deep red is above 12F.
The commercial area
The purple area is the commercial area, and the commercial is developed up along
the one of the important vertical road. The commercial area includes a shopping
mall, a supermarket, and many stores along the street. This commercial
area basically serves the citizens daily s, and assembles the people
into this area at the daytime.
Main traffic current
At the morning time, the main traffic current would appear. As the dotted line
shows, the main traffic current would through three vertical roads to join the city
main road.

At the bottom of the well
The site is surrounded by the tall buildings, as the picture
showing, the site likes the deep bottom of the ‘well’. The
condition of the site seems imprisoned, so it would lack
of liberty, fluidity, imagination and communication. How to
enact the adverse situation of the field, and to transform the
negative conditions to positive and bring the nice space to the
citizens?
'Cold' road
The road in the east and west of the site is the road mainly
connects with the city main road. The would be people stream
and autos stream would in these two road, but we find that
the roads surround the site could not connect with the site
field inside, so the road at some point seems cool and just for
traffic communication.
Architecture choosing
What kind of kindergarten architecture should we choose in
this site? The extremely exaggerative style buildings could
not fit in the residential community atmosphere. So we in here
use the practical and regular architecture to fulfill the goal.
Attracting the stream
I want to lead the stream into the field and enact the positive
social interaction. Trapping more stream of people, the site
would become the major field for daily activity needs, namely,
the road would never be ‘cool’ and be ‘warm’ after being
trapped into the site.
what to bring to the community
After determine what kind of architecture should we use, now
we should think deeper about what positive impact could
this architecture bring to the community. The site is in the
middle in the community, so it must contain the public service
function besides the kindergarten service.
The arc figure
I would use the streamline (arc shape) architecture in the
site, because the arc is softer and bring people the sense of
beauty and art, and also people would be more willing to walk
along stream line architecture.
Increasing the value
After the consideration, we could preliminarily decide the
figure of the kindergarten. And the kindergarten I want is to do
more to the community besides the nursing function, so that
to offer the public space to enact positive atmosphere to the
community and finally increase the community’s value.
Work out
Finally, the architecture would be built up like the picture. The
stream of people would be trapped into the site around and
outside the kindergarten, and do not interfere the children
daily study inside the kindergarten.

The project is located in Baiyun District the north of central
Guangzhou city. Since the old Baiyun airport relocated to other place, the land
utility reforms and be planned to develop as the new center in the future. The
design task base area is about 19.9 ha, and the site is located in the northest of
the old airport, it could be said that the site is ‘the airplane head’, its area value is
very high, the geographical location is very superior, it is really the head!
In the east, it is the famous natural scenic zone—Baiyun mountain, while also
in the East is the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (Headquarters ); the
northern part is the urban and rural union department, mainly the low buildings in
this area; western is the high-quality residential districts and commercial malls
relatively centralized area; southern is the Baiyun New Town main axis body, with
the Baiyun International Conference Center and other international well-known
landmarks.
Target:
1. To plan the residential district in the ‘head’ of Old Baiyun airport, and the area
is 19.9 ha.
2. To arrange the residential buildings which are restricted under 18F height
reasonably.
3. To design the landscape inside the residential area to fit the need of people.

low quality residence
The southern and eastern parts
mainly are the urban village, and the
density is very high. These two parts’
landscape is not very well, and lacking
of green environment to satisfy the
people’s normal needs. The buildings
are mainly under 8 storey, and have a
low quality. The southern part mainly
is the low quality residential urban
village, while the eastern part has a
little commercial function.

The western part is the middle class
residential district, this part has a well
quality buildings, and also has the well
planned virescence, totally speaking,
this part bring the positive impact to
the site. There is a shopping mall in
this area, so that this area got the
commercial function.
THE service factory
The south-east part is mainly the
auto service factory. These factories
usually repair the breakdown cars
or produce some steel components,
so it would produce the large noise
and waste(such water, air, industry
remains) at the day time. As the
analysis, this part also is the negative
impact to the planning site, and this
part also has not got the positive
landscape.
THINKING
As what has analyzed, the southern and eastern part would bring
the negative impact to the size, while the western brings positive,
so how to make the perfect decision is the prior goal. As far as I
am concerned, I would avoid connecting with the southern and
eastern part, so that to try utmost to cut off the bad influence,
at the same time, I would open the site to the western direction,
because that part would bring something benefited to the size. As
the thoughts I stated, I would start to plan residential district.
14. Group (block) style
Based on the condition of sunshine,
building figure and size, arrange
the residential buildings as several
group in different area and this
groups do not focus on which is
superior or inferior. And this kind of
simple style is called group (block)
style.
Enclosed style
The building would be arranged in
the peripheral side, and enclose
a space inside. This style could
create the unique environment
which differ from the outside in the
inside space, and the environment
would be broad enough, while also
get the good condition of sunshine,
Ventilation, good vision.
Centripetal style
Some special elements would
be the central part of the whole
residential area, and other part
would toward the center. This style
would show a strong centripetal
feeling, and the road would also be
centripetal, and usually be circular
net like.
Condensed style
The residential function and the
commercial (or public facilities) would
combine together, and develop the
underground space, and make the
residential district space vertically be
strong communicated. This type would
efficiently save the space in the limited
area, but also could satisfy the people
needs. And this type would usually use
in the case that the site lacks of land.
Main axis style
The space axis that is sometime visible or
invisible would exist in the residential district.
The usual visible main axis is road, green
channel and water, etc. Not matter the axis
visible or invisible, these kinds of axis would
bring the strong feeling of concentration
and guiding. And this style usual arranges
the residential area symmetrically with the
logical rhythm, and the axis would play the
dominating role of the whole district
Metaphor style
This type would base on the
prototype element, and through
the refinement, summarization,
and abstraction, to create the
form of planning language. This
type would leave the blank for
people to resonate and imagine
psychologically. This metaphor style
would sublimate from metaphysics
to philosophy.

uses the block (group) style to
simply arrange the building. As
the analysis shows, the western
is the fine-quality residential, so
I use this open style to allow the
outside scenery in.

Chen's Clan Ancestral and Academy Hall which had been built in Tsing dynasty
1888 is a place both for offering sacrifices to ancestors and for study. The Chen's
Clan Ancestral and Academy Hall is in Liwan district Guangzhou, china.
Because of the long lasting history background and the large value of local
culture, the Chen’s hall becomes one of Cultural relics protection units. This
urban planning project’s site bases on the Chen’s hall as the core portion, and
including Chen’s hall surrounding area. The goal is to this large
area .
Target:
1. To research the problems exist in the target area of project.
2. To make the thinking of how to figure out the problems.
3. To extrude a new plan of target project and this could solve the old day
problems and increase the value of city.

Introduction
The introduction of Chen's Clan Ancestral and
Academy Hall
Chen's Clan Ancestral and Academy Hall which also called
Chen Clan Academy is a place both for offering sacrifices to
ancestors and for study.
In late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), a man named Chen got
the third place in the highest imperial examination and had
conferred upon him a distinguished office title which made
the Family Chen well-known. Later someone suggested that
all the Chen’s family members raise money to build a temple
to sacrifice to the ancestors and encourage their offspring
to study hard. Therefore, the temple was finished in 1894
with the money donated by Chen’s families in 72 counties
of Guangdong Province as well as some overseas family
members.
The temple is a compound complex consisting of nine
halls, sixe courtyards and nineteen buildings connected by
corridors, all separated by walls from the outside world. A
pair of stone drums in front of the entrance door, measuring
2.55meters (about 8.36feet) in height and two colored
drawing pictures of door-god of four meters (about 13 feet)
height are said to be the best in Guangdong.
The compound was constructed in the traditional Chinese
symmetrical style and the main hall, the Juxian Hall, is in
the center of the temple. Juxian Hall was once a place for
clansmen to assemle before the establishment of the temple
and now it is usedd as an ancestral hall. In front of the hall
is a stone gazebo surrounded by stone balustrades. In the
hall there is an exquisitely carved folding screen which is an
excellent example of wood carving.
The most impressive attractions in the temple are various
superb carvings extolling nature. They are in the forms
of wood, brick, pottery, stone, lime and things like that, of
which wood carving especially fully demonstrates the great
achievements of the art of carving in Guangdong Province.
Stories of historical celebrities and scenes are also vividly
represented in the temple.

while the quality of the architectures which were and
built up in Tsing dynasty more than one hundred
years ago are bad. There is a large mess in this
area. Because of there are many mobile vendors
acting in this area, the sanitation standard is very

The east is Kangwang road, the west is Liwan road, and the
south is Zhongshan road. These city’s main roads whose
width is between 40-50m are the important vessels in urban
life.

The purple circle is the parking lot. There are 5 parking lots in
the site, and each one has 20 parking spaces.`

The internal road system is walking system, and this walking
system likes the small veins for people to get wherever they
want. As the picture shows, the accessibility is not very well in
the west and north.

Age of building is mainly divided into 2 classes, new and old.
The old buildings were mainly built up more than 100 years
ago.
Bus&subway station
The blue circle is the bus station, and 4 bus stations disperse
around the site to serve the traffic needs. The green circle is
the subway station, the subway system planned a station in
here because of the prior status of Chen’ hall.
Main material of building
Main material of building is divided into 4 classes, wood and
tile, wood and brick, wood and cement, and steel and plastic
membrane.
20. Lacking of commercial area
The area around the target site mainly is the residences, there
about 60 thousands people in circle radius

people need place .

60 thousands citizens’ need. The rough calculation shows
that it is under 0.05m2
per person.
The missing cover
There are several commercial centers in Liwan district in
GZ city, but as the picture shows, the radiation scope of the
commercial centers does not cover our site.
The olds need the square
The Liwan district is the old district in GZ city, so the
proportion of the is more than 12%,
means it would be more than one old in every ten
people.
The bad commercial style
It really exists some commercials (Flea market) in the site,
but the kind of commercial style is noisy and rude, which
does not fit in the modern city life.
The healthy attitude needs the square
As we know, more and more people nowadays focus on the
health and the way how to build up the healthy body. It is the
life attitude that not only belongs to the old, but also belongs
to every one.
Commercial Structure is unsuitable
The commerce is arrayed along the street, lacking of
regulation and combination. After the research, we discovered
that the commerce mainly includes four parts: Catering,
Hardware, Clothing, and Living supplies and the ratio is

Needing the square for commemoration
The Chen’ hall is the historical preservation architecture, it
has the character of solemn and commemoration, so it really
need the square to create the space to extrude the valuable
Chen’ hall.

Enlarging the commercial area
If we enlarge the commercial function in the site, it is no doubt
that would serve the need of the citizens. Many citizens could
find out a place to do the shopping and satisfy the life.

There would be another main commercial center in whole
district, and perfectly cover and serve the nearby area around

The commercial activities would be regulated inside the
building, so the noisy and rude atmosphere would be
changed into the quieter and more elegant level.

people who want to have some sports to rebuild the personal
health to do the sports. More over, it would awake and lead
the current of health life in city, if it was more places and more
people joined in.
Rebuilding the commercial structure
If we regularly add the large commercial area in the site,
it would change the commercial structure. The ratio of
Catering, Hardware, Clothing, and Living supplies would be
20%:30%:20%:30%, that means this commercial area would
better serve the needs of people.
Adding the commemoration square
I think it should add a large and open square in front of
Chen’s hall to sever as the respect and commemoration of
history. And as theory experience, the ratio of the breadth of
square and the height of architecture better be 1:12, because
in this ratio would bring the strong feelings of solemn.

21. Problem
This area also has the disorder functions, because
it includes commerce, government working center,
sport gymnasium, residency in this small range
area, so maybe it has to cut down two or more
kinds of functions of this area. What’s more, the
gymnasium and the government working center
lack the public square for people to do the social
activities. As we all know, the sport and government
center is public service area, and citizens would
assemble to here, so a public square really be
required

The commercial and working function distributes
disorderly, so that these two parts intricate together
and could not work efficiently. There is a flea market
in this area and it plays the major role of commerce.
Secondly, this area is short of accessibility, the
many paths are obstructed and could not walk
through, so that it is hard to reach the place you
want to by the inside paths.

Solution method
To solve the disorder functions problem, the
residential and commercial functions would be cut
off, because this area is mainly the public service
use. As we know, the city gymnasium and people
government is the main place as the service center,
and therefore usually need the public square for
citizens. The area that used to be residential and
commercial area would be cleaned up and become
the citizens’ square.
Solution method
To solve the disorder functions problem, I would
rearrange the commerce and working building,
and makes them more reasonable. The commerce
area would mainly be enlarged and arranged near
the main traffic road. And working building would
be put in north. The road system would be revised,
namely, the complicated road which makes people
difficult to through would be replaced by the simple
one, a straight road in the middle with several minor
roads would to serve as the system in this area.

22. Problem
The area in front of Chen's Clan Ancestral and
Academy Hall is some wording offices building
and as the picture shows, there is no space for
Chen’s Hall, so I think the area in front of the hall
really pressing the historical relics, and for my
perspective, there should be an open area for the
relics, firstly for the respect, while secondly for
citizens’ social activities. At the same time, the
easts part of Chen’s hall a public park.
Problem
This area has the large area of old bad-quality
condensed residential district, while a little portion
of fine-quality. Those buildings in bad-quality are
in high density, and because of the high density,
this area sanitation and security is not in good
condition, namely, the high density makes the area
mess and blocks whole area. What’s more, it exists

Solution method
The -quality residential area in front of Chen’s
hall would be remove, and instead, it would be a
broad simple square. It is for two reasons: Firstly, it
is a respect to the Chen’s hall. The situation before
is that Chen’ hall was surrounded by the building
breathlessly, it means that the architectures around
the hall really suppress the hall. Secondly, as the
site is in Liwan district which has a high density
and population, it need a broad and open space for
citizens to gather together in here to dance or do
the beneficial sports.
Solution method
The high density of the old residential buildings
would be pulled down, to change the negative
elements in this area. What’s more, the northern
part is the modern factories, which are really
contradict with the whole area, finally I would
remove the factories, and the land used to be the
old buildings and factories would have the new
function—exhibition and commercial. This new
area’s building would continue the culture style
of former old building. And this area would be the
witness of the long—lasting Guangzhou’s culture.

The project ‘Concept Planning Design of Anhui Heaven Village Resort
International Hotel’ locates in Heaven village natural preservation areas, Liuan
county, Anhui province. Because of the requirement of opening up the market,
the local hotel wants to enlarge the scale and exploit the villa area as the new
function to the hotel, and finally expect this international hotel could be the
symbol of the whole large area of Anhui province. The areas of project is 206
thousand square meters in the valley, and the site has abundant and varied
vegetation, a annual stream across the valley, so the resource is wonderful. This
concept design is divided into three part: Firstly, the extension of the local hotel.
Secondly, the exploitation of the villa area in the valley. Thirdly, the landscape
arrangement in the valley.
Respecting of the mother nature as the basic standard, I would reduce the
intension of exploitation. Hotel: I would expend the scale of hotel from 73 rooms
to 200 rooms, which means that it needs to add new buildings to accomplish
the goal, besides the function of the hotel would be arranged again in order to
getting better operation. Villa: The villa zoon is in the middle of valley upper than
the hotel, this villa zoon would be very careful with the local environment and try
best to exploit well while also could find the balance of the nature. Landscape:
Fundamentally use the resource of the site, and just change a little proportion of
the landscape and add several outdoor scenery or competition project in it, and
it would be the precious opportunity for citizens to back to the embrace of the
mother nature.
Target:
1. To enlarge the hotel from 73 rooms to 200 rooms to reach the Five-star-hotel’s
standard.
2. To add the villas zone to add the new form to the hotel, and the villas zone’s
floor area ratio should under 2.0.
3. To exploit some landscape projects in the target area to serve the customer.
Site introduction
Heaven Village scenic area in Anhui province is located in the southwest of Jinzhai County, and adjacent to
Luotian County, Hubei province and Yingshan County. The scenic area has a total area of 120 square kilometers,
in its territory there are 25 peaks that are higher than 1,000 meters. The main peak is 1729.13 meters above sea
level, which is one of the main peak of Dabie mountains, and is the watershed of river the Huaihe River. Annual
rainfall is 1350mm, humidity is 85%, with an average annual temperature of 12.6 degree.
Project Xingan hotel is located in the Heaven Village scenic area, planning area is 206,000 square meters.
Because of the market and business needs, decided to upgrade and extend the original hotel, and strive to build
up as the Anhui regional business card.

The hotel in Heaven village scenic preservation needs
the upgrade and extension for the marketing service
requirement. According to the marketing survey, the hotel
would enlarge from 73 rooms to 200 rooms, in order to
accomplish the target, new buildings are needed to set
up. Based on the terrain, it would finally add two new
buildings in the north-west, north-east of main building
along the mountain contour line. And the functions would
rearrange, the meeting, reception and offices area would
in the north-west building, the hotel rooms would in the
north-east building, and the original main building would
provide the catering and entertaining function.

This part of design would provide the land
project for visitor to have some amusing
competition experience. Customers could

The plan choose the simple road system to fit in
the valley terrain, while this simple system also
has the 3 divided classed of road in order to
better serve the needs.
The scenery path
The scenery path is designed just for customers
to connect with the primitive mother-nature by
walk along the path, which avoids the autos and
let people reach the large area of the valley
Tree houses
The tree house is the most special and
meaningful part of this project. There would be
about 25 tree houses would be built to serve
the customers, and its basic function is provide
the old and original space for people who spend
one night in it to feel the nature .
Mountain-climbing
People could climb up the mountain along the
stream, and enjoy the scene of nature and
develop the body through the process of climb.

planning
The project needs to plan the new and suitable landscape
park for citizens in the center of Yingtan city. The site is
narrow and long near the sea.
In this project, I mainly work is to draw the effect paintings
and design the entrance of the park. Through this project, I
learned more about landscape design, and now more about
the essence meaning of City Park. I consider City Park as
the positive space for citizen to connect with the nature and
to do the relaxation or communication activities, so that the
city park should be considered more to satisfy the need of
the citizens.
The Jiangxi Jiujiang Fills World Regulatory Detail
Planning
This project’s target is to plan a tourism combination that
includes the theme park and holiday resort two parts in
Jiujiang, Jiangxi province.
In this project, I firstly have the chance to join the regulatory
detail planning, and I also learned a lot in this project. I
know more about the process that a planning from start to
outcome. As we know, the result of planning has the law
authority, so we need to accomplish the work more careful
and to avoid mistake of sum up of data and diagrams. My
main work is to draw the analysis diagram and to sum up
the planning data.

At the second year of colege, I took a 14-day-
trip to Yunnan province. As one of the famous
tourism province, Yunnan has extremely excelent
climate,and precious nature resource. I went to
several places, such as Yunnan ancient city, the
Shangri-La preservation national park, and many
landscape resorts. This trip would be one of the
unforgettable experiences in my head.
