PROJECTS
Description of a Student-Managed Program to Acquired Medications for a Low-Income
Population. Kansas City, MO. April 2014.
Analyzed patient assistance program (PAP) data from the Shared Care Free Health
Clinic in Independence, MO.
Retrieved data from the Red Book on the average wholesale prices (AWP) of
medications listed on the PAP.
Tallied the total annual AWP, along with various other sub-totals to analyze trends
that occurred between 2012 and 2013.
Created excel charts to illustrate changes in trends.
Presented abstract and data at two poster presentations: Missouri Society of Health-
System Pharmacy/Kansas City Health-System Pharmacy Annual Meeting and
University of Missouri-Kansas City Health Sciences Student Research Summit.
Pharmacy & Therapeutics Competition with Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP).
Analyzed the proper placement of Aflibercept (Eylea) into a private insurance’s formulary.
Kansas City, MO. January 2014.
Attended meetings in preparation for the competition. Meetings provided
information about managed care and how to analyze certain aspects of a drug:
clinical studies, efficacy, adverse drug effects, cost effectiveness, appropriateness for
certain populations, evidence based medicine, etc.
Read and analyzed the manufacturer dossier on Aflibercept (Eyelea).
Researched and collected additional pertinent data for the use of Aflibercept
(Eyelea). Additional studies that were researched included drug studies of
medications that could be used in place of Aflibercept (Eyelea).
The competition was a group effort and each group was composed of four members.
As a team, data was collected and an overall conclusion was made to not include
Aflibercept (Eyelea) in the new drug formulary as a first line drug. Aflibercept
(Eyelea) was only approved for use in patient populations who have failed other first
line treatment options.
Pfizer Drug Cost Analysis. Performed a cost analysis on Pfizer brand drugs that were to be
discontinued from the Patient Assistance Program (PAP) at the Shared Care Free Health
Clinic, Independence, MO. July 2013.
Collected, calculated, and analyzed the annualized cost of PAP medications that were
being discontinued from the program. Drug pricings were collected from the
following sources: 50 Plus Pharmacy, RX Outreach, Auburn Pharmacy, Target, Wal-
mart, and Hy-Vee Pharmacy.
Created a report and summarized all of the options available for discontinued
medications. The report included overall recommendations for how to replace the
PAP drugs.
The report was intended for the staff at the Shared Care Free Health Clinic to see
whether or not it was feasible for them to carry the drug in their dispensary or to give
patients the prescriptions so they can be filled at an outside pharmacy.
