NEMESIS”(A2 MEDIA)

How does your product use or challenge the
conventions and how does it represents social
groups or issues? I WANTED TO MAKE A FILM ON PUBLIC MESSAGE AS PER EXPECTATION OF A LARGE AUDIENCE
THAT WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE.I CONDUCTED A RESEARCH ON SOCIAL ISSUES AND
PROBLEMS OCCURRED IN PAKISTAN AND ALSO DID A SURVEY FROM MY NEIGHBOURS AND
FRIENDS.
 IN THE END I DECIDED TO MAKE A SHORT FILM CONVEYING A MESSAGE ABOUT SAFE DRIVING
WHICH IS BEING A SOCIAL ISSUE AND IN MY RESEARCH I FOUND THAT EVERY YEAR THERE ARE
AROUND 10000 CAR ACCIDENTS IN PAKISTAN GETTING AROUND 5000 KILLED.
 TO MAKE A SHORT FILM WITH A MESSAGE I DECIDED TO CHALLENGE
SOME CONVENTIONS AND USE SOME.THE GENRE I SELECTED WAS
DRAMA. Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational
development of realistic characters. While Drama film relies heavily on this
kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well.
Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues.
Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a
conflict within themselves, Drama film aims to tell an honest story of
human struggles. So my short films genre was melodrama tragedy. The
drama genre is basically watched by everyone as there are no limitations of
age and gender, as my film Is about giving a message I wanted to make
sure that more people watch it.
 Conventions of drama:
 Exhibits real life situations with realistic characters, settings, and stories
 Purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience emotionally.
 Conflicts include inner/outer realistic struggles depicting hardships,
difficulty, and pain.
 Audience can relate to the Characters
 Structured with climaxes and anti climaxes to keep the audience
emotionally attached and the tension ongoing
 A form of realization at the end/happily ending
 I named my short film “The Nemesis” which is a synonym of destiny. The
title itself describes the genre of the film or gives a better idea about the
genre.
 I have challenged the very convention of drama which is happy ending
also related to Todrovs narrative theory and started my film with
equilibrium but as my film is about driving awareness the characters in the
end die because of the use of cellphone, over speeding and drunk driving
so I decided its better to keep the equilibrium unstable in the end so the
audience can get a better idea about the consequences of these actions
while driving.
 I also used the convention of freeze frame in my short film in which the
members of a group use their bodies to make an image or tableau
capturing an idea, theme, or moment in time; also called a group sculpture
or tableau. It's like a photo image.
 The characters represent the social group in my film in the best way
possible. One character who is a father and a office working guy is shown
in a formal dress code to show the audience that he’s going to work and a
middle aged man, while the other guy is shown to be youngster of aged
around 25 with his informal clothing. The working guy is often shown busy
which is why my character is continuously using his cellphone while the
other guy after betrayal is shown dunk which is why he’s been shown
drinking alcohol. Both of them are shown as a middle class people which is
why their clothing was not too much elite neither their cars.
How do the elements of your production work
together to create a sense of branding?
 The production work, the short film, webpage, and postcard are all
connected and work together to create a sense of branding. The color
schemes of both webpage and postcard are the same, the fonts are also
more likely the same, as it shows an impact tone. I have used the image of
the postcard on the webpage to show a connection between them both.
 I have also used the logo of Warner Bros which is the production company
of my short film on my webpage, invitation and the film.
 The most essential element to market a media product is to create an
intriguing and eye-catching movie poster. In my poster I have included
pictures of my main characters Shahzar and Sami while getting of their car
before the accident. This background goes with the theme of the film.
 The film also has its own website on which there is a gallery and the logo
of warner bros, This will create a sense of branding, the film and its theme
will become popular and people will be waiting to watch it impatiently. The
film will also be featured in several reckoned film festivals hence it will be
held in high regard and will be given importance.
How does your products engage with audience and how
would they be distributed as real media text?
 Since I have featured a diverse age group of people such as a father, mother,
teenagers and a child, the film Is open to and targets a large audience. It would
interest many social groups who are middle class or teenagers because they
can relate very well to my film. The topic of the film is such that every age
group ranging from 20-50 year old's would enjoy the movie .It is also pg13
and could be easy watched by everyone.
 USP The unique selling point of my movie is its closeness to reality and the
social issue which needs to be highlighted. It shows a normal life of the two; a
father and a guy who were living their life happily until the unexpected actions
of each other cost them their life.
 The audience experience this film, as in reality, they are touched with the issues
the middle and lower class people face. It makes them think about their
children's’ future, and about the consequences they face in their daily lives
 The short films are distributed as real media products, using vimeo, internet, where they can view it. It is
distributed to Facebook, where people watch, and are mostly active, they will view it and will think
about their future and their children's future. Social websites are the main sites, where this short film will
bring affect, as it will make the people make choices in their lives and can get viral quickly and spread
amongst more audience.
 To distribute my film and market it, I have created a website which gives an insight about the film which
can be visited and shared by the audience. The webpage is published on the internet and the internet is
a platform which reaches out to millions and billions of people across the globe, it is easy to access and
gives people the opportunity to share their reviews too and shed light on how they felt about the film.
This medium is best for youngsters who are more comfortable with using the net to survey upcoming
films, compared to old age people who will read the news paper, therefore a movie poster will also be
posted in newspapers to attract and inform audiences about our upcoming films
 The film will be exhibited on several film festivals so that critics can give their reviews and make
audiences anticipate the release of the film on larger screens. Trailers will be posted on YouTube which
is the largest video sharing platform. The movie is produced and will be distributed by Warner brothers
Production and Distribution company.
How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware
and online?
 Since my AS portfolio I have become well acquainted with different
technologies combined to make a media product. For filming I used a
Canon 60D which films HD quality videos. To edit my clips I used Adobe
premier pro because it is advanced with many functions and transitions
which makes the video quality. I used other hardware equipment such as a
tripod. I shot several clips from my IPhone camera such as the one in
which the car slowly freeze, it was shot in iPhone slow mo. with 240fps on
720p.To create the movie poster, I used Adobe Photoshop as for me its
very easy and advanced. To reduce the size of the video used the software
called handbrake, since it reduces the size of the video with a great margin
and doesn’t affects the quality.
 To create the website for the minor task I used wix.com as the domain which offers
ready made templates to create functional websites. For my portfolio I used
Blogger.com and uploaded my short film on vimeo. To receive feedback about my film I
posted it on Facebook. Together through integration of these numerous technological
software's and hardwires produced, distributed and exhibited my film.i became a
Prosumer. I used different websites to download mp3 music and sound effects for my
film such as youtube and google.

  • 2. How does your product use or challenge the conventions and how does it represents social groups or issues? I WANTED TO MAKE A FILM ON PUBLIC MESSAGE AS PER EXPECTATION OF A LARGE AUDIENCE THAT WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE.I CONDUCTED A RESEARCH ON SOCIAL ISSUES AND PROBLEMS OCCURRED IN PAKISTAN AND ALSO DID A SURVEY FROM MY NEIGHBOURS AND FRIENDS.  IN THE END I DECIDED TO MAKE A SHORT FILM CONVEYING A MESSAGE ABOUT SAFE DRIVING WHICH IS BEING A SOCIAL ISSUE AND IN MY RESEARCH I FOUND THAT EVERY YEAR THERE ARE AROUND 10000 CAR ACCIDENTS IN PAKISTAN GETTING AROUND 5000 KILLED.
  • 3.  TO MAKE A SHORT FILM WITH A MESSAGE I DECIDED TO CHALLENGE SOME CONVENTIONS AND USE SOME.THE GENRE I SELECTED WAS DRAMA. Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational development of realistic characters. While Drama film relies heavily on this kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues. Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves, Drama film aims to tell an honest story of human struggles. So my short films genre was melodrama tragedy. The drama genre is basically watched by everyone as there are no limitations of age and gender, as my film Is about giving a message I wanted to make sure that more people watch it.
  • 4.  Conventions of drama:  Exhibits real life situations with realistic characters, settings, and stories  Purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience emotionally.  Conflicts include inner/outer realistic struggles depicting hardships, difficulty, and pain.  Audience can relate to the Characters  Structured with climaxes and anti climaxes to keep the audience emotionally attached and the tension ongoing  A form of realization at the end/happily ending
  • 5.  I named my short film “The Nemesis” which is a synonym of destiny. The title itself describes the genre of the film or gives a better idea about the genre.  I have challenged the very convention of drama which is happy ending also related to Todrovs narrative theory and started my film with equilibrium but as my film is about driving awareness the characters in the end die because of the use of cellphone, over speeding and drunk driving so I decided its better to keep the equilibrium unstable in the end so the audience can get a better idea about the consequences of these actions while driving.  I also used the convention of freeze frame in my short film in which the members of a group use their bodies to make an image or tableau capturing an idea, theme, or moment in time; also called a group sculpture or tableau. It's like a photo image.
  • 6.  The characters represent the social group in my film in the best way possible. One character who is a father and a office working guy is shown in a formal dress code to show the audience that he’s going to work and a middle aged man, while the other guy is shown to be youngster of aged around 25 with his informal clothing. The working guy is often shown busy which is why my character is continuously using his cellphone while the other guy after betrayal is shown dunk which is why he’s been shown drinking alcohol. Both of them are shown as a middle class people which is why their clothing was not too much elite neither their cars.
  • 7. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of branding?  The production work, the short film, webpage, and postcard are all connected and work together to create a sense of branding. The color schemes of both webpage and postcard are the same, the fonts are also more likely the same, as it shows an impact tone. I have used the image of the postcard on the webpage to show a connection between them both.  I have also used the logo of Warner Bros which is the production company of my short film on my webpage, invitation and the film.
  • 8.  The most essential element to market a media product is to create an intriguing and eye-catching movie poster. In my poster I have included pictures of my main characters Shahzar and Sami while getting of their car before the accident. This background goes with the theme of the film.  The film also has its own website on which there is a gallery and the logo of warner bros, This will create a sense of branding, the film and its theme will become popular and people will be waiting to watch it impatiently. The film will also be featured in several reckoned film festivals hence it will be held in high regard and will be given importance.
  • 9. How does your products engage with audience and how would they be distributed as real media text?  Since I have featured a diverse age group of people such as a father, mother, teenagers and a child, the film Is open to and targets a large audience. It would interest many social groups who are middle class or teenagers because they can relate very well to my film. The topic of the film is such that every age group ranging from 20-50 year old's would enjoy the movie .It is also pg13 and could be easy watched by everyone.  USP The unique selling point of my movie is its closeness to reality and the social issue which needs to be highlighted. It shows a normal life of the two; a father and a guy who were living their life happily until the unexpected actions of each other cost them their life.  The audience experience this film, as in reality, they are touched with the issues the middle and lower class people face. It makes them think about their children's’ future, and about the consequences they face in their daily lives
  • 10.  The short films are distributed as real media products, using vimeo, internet, where they can view it. It is distributed to Facebook, where people watch, and are mostly active, they will view it and will think about their future and their children's future. Social websites are the main sites, where this short film will bring affect, as it will make the people make choices in their lives and can get viral quickly and spread amongst more audience.  To distribute my film and market it, I have created a website which gives an insight about the film which can be visited and shared by the audience. The webpage is published on the internet and the internet is a platform which reaches out to millions and billions of people across the globe, it is easy to access and gives people the opportunity to share their reviews too and shed light on how they felt about the film. This medium is best for youngsters who are more comfortable with using the net to survey upcoming films, compared to old age people who will read the news paper, therefore a movie poster will also be posted in newspapers to attract and inform audiences about our upcoming films  The film will be exhibited on several film festivals so that critics can give their reviews and make audiences anticipate the release of the film on larger screens. Trailers will be posted on YouTube which is the largest video sharing platform. The movie is produced and will be distributed by Warner brothers Production and Distribution company.
  • 11. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online?  Since my AS portfolio I have become well acquainted with different technologies combined to make a media product. For filming I used a Canon 60D which films HD quality videos. To edit my clips I used Adobe premier pro because it is advanced with many functions and transitions which makes the video quality. I used other hardware equipment such as a tripod. I shot several clips from my IPhone camera such as the one in which the car slowly freeze, it was shot in iPhone slow mo. with 240fps on 720p.To create the movie poster, I used Adobe Photoshop as for me its very easy and advanced. To reduce the size of the video used the software called handbrake, since it reduces the size of the video with a great margin and doesn’t affects the quality.
  • 12.  To create the website for the minor task I used wix.com as the domain which offers ready made templates to create functional websites. For my portfolio I used Blogger.com and uploaded my short film on vimeo. To receive feedback about my film I posted it on Facebook. Together through integration of these numerous technological software's and hardwires produced, distributed and exhibited my film.i became a Prosumer. I used different websites to download mp3 music and sound effects for my film such as youtube and google.
