Skylight toward Success
Tukwut Leadership Circle allowed me to meet and interact with other young people from
different countries and continents. I was honored to join in TLC because of many reasons. For
one, TLC provided me trainings that improved my humble knowledge of leadership, in
particular, community service and general unity as well. Looking back, my participation in TLC
was surely a great experience for me because it strengthened my capacity of analyzing
communication issues and enhanced my ability to be a good leader.
In addition, TLC was an opportunity for me to realize my leadership skills and learn how to use
them in my daily life, enlarge my society and apply them to my field. I learned that leadership is
not just about being able to lead a group of people, but is actually about how to understand
yourself and be able to express your creative ideas with good manners. I also got a chance to
know about how to create a change among our communities.
In Morocco, where I belong, there are thousands of social conflicts. Currently, the biggest
conflict that is affecting my community is the lack of leadership spirit. As a young Social
Entrepreneur, I always wanted to spread leadership skills through our organization to make
young people aware of many social issues and make them active in their communities. TLC will
surely affect my future by providing me more awareness that will allow me to further contribute to
provide answers to problem that are still uncovered in my country. TLC also gave me more credibility to
be a good trainer in many leadership workshops and participate in encouraging youth to take part in
changing their country to be well developed and successful.
2. Furthermore, Tukwut Leadership Circle helped me to achieve my goals that I set during my enrollment
meeting with my peer leader. One of my goals was to commit at least two events in a week. I had chance
to participate in at least two events a week thanks to TLC. These events were an opening for me to work
with new people outside of the campus and also to experience new things. I was able to communicate and
share my culture as well. One of these events was called ‘’Superstem’’ as I had a chance to be part of this
fair and learn new skills. My job was conducting surveys which were great practice for me because I had
to talk and welcome strangers. I was also able to be part of a clean up team after the end of fair where I
was collected tables and drove with a nice co-worker around the university. It was a hard job physically
but I enjoyed it, because we used a golf car to carry the tables and that was an amazing thing for me
because I have never been in a golf car.
My second goal was to get involved during U-Hour in any event. TLC was a window for me toward other
events during U-Hour and also was an occasion to fill my free time and avoid feeling homesick in most of
the cases. I joined some Church volunteers and I read the Bible as well as I had a chance to listen to music
that they use in Church. It was a great prospect for me to learn about a different religion and also I got
supportive information for my Religion and Politics classes.
My final goal was to get in intercultural dialogues to earn new friends from worldwide. TLC was not just
a program for leadership; it was also a place for diversity and intercultural communication. I had a chance
to learn communication skills through TLC workshops and get a clear vision about different culture as
well as avoiding stereotyping each other.
Overall, I felt that I succeeded in achieving my entire goals through the TLC program. Because my main
goal after all, was to learn, discover and explore new things. As I have always been involved in a number
of social activities and voluntary work in my country, this program was another opportunity that I will
never forget. Taking part in developing my country and helping young people to be active participants in
the society are actually the main reasons, among many others, that made this program so appealing to me.
3. Finally, I would like to finish by my favorite quote of John Maxwell ‘Leaders become great, not because
of their power, but because of their ability to empower others ‘’
