5. INTRODUCTION
Skinput is a technology which uses the surface of the skin as an
input device.
To capture this acoustic information, there is an wearable armband
developed that is easily removable and light in weight.
Skinput allows the user to simply tap their skin in order to control
various devices.
It uses the sensors to determine where the user taps om their skin.
6. WHAT IS SKINPUT. . .???
• Skinput is a combo of two technology i.e. the ability to detect the ultra low frequency sound and
the pico projector.
• Turns The body into a TOUCH-SCREEN
interface.
• Giving input through skin.
• Skinput uses a series of sensors to track where a user taps on his arm.
• It listen to vibration in our body.
• Provides an always available mobile input
system.
• Basically the arm is an instrument.
7. REQUIREMENTS:
•An acoustic detector to detect sound vibrations.
•It uses a microchip-sized pico projector to display menu.
•It needs Bluetooth connection.
9. HOW IT WORKS….???
In skinput, a keyboard, menu and other graphics are beamed onto a
user’s palm and forearm from a pico projector embedded in an arm
band.
an acoustic detector in the arm band can determine which part of
the display is activated by the user’s touch.
Their software matches sound frequencies to specific skin
locations, allowing the system to determine “skin button” the user
pressed.
11. .
To maximize the surface area for
input, we place the sensor above
the elbow, leaving the entire
forearm free.
This increases input consistency.
Accuracy does drop when 10 or more locations are used.
ACCURACY
12. SURFACE AND OBJECT RECOGNIZATION
• Ability to identify the operating system.
• Participants to tap their index finger against
1. a finger on their other hand
2. a page pad 80 pages thick
3. an LCD screen
13. ADVANTAGES
• No need to interact with the gadgets directly.
• Don’t have to worry about keypad.
• Via skinput we can control audio devices, play games, make phone calls.
• We can even have a control over our TV with the help of remote connection.
• People with larger fingers get trouble in navigating tiny buttons and
keyboards on mobile phones. With skinputs that problem disappears.
• Through the help of skinput technology we can implement in education
system like we can use calculator or browsing through a mobile phone etc…
14. DISADVANTAGES
• Individuals with visual disabilities cannot use this product.
• The armband is currently bulky.
• The visibility of the projection of the buttons on the skin can be reduced if the user has a
tattoo located on their arm.
• The east accessibility will cause people to be more socially distracted.
• The technology might startup at a very high cost which will not be affordable by comman
man.
• Enough resources has not been conducted on skinput to test skin diseases or cancer.
15. APPLICATIONS
• The skinput system can display an image of a digital keyboard on a person’s forearm.
• Using Skinput, someone could send text messages, make a phone call by tapping his or her
arm in certain places.
• While walking and logging, we can listen to music.
• One can play games via skinput just with the tapping on arm.
16. FUTURE SKINPUT
• The achievement of skinput is proving that the human body can be used as a
sensor.
• One can simply tap their palm to unlock the door and can turn ON/OFF TV
and start flipping through channels.
Research is going on to-
Make armband smaller.
Incorporate more devices.
Extend accuracy level.
17. CONCLUSION
• Skinput allows the human body as an input surface.
• It descrives a wearable bio acoustic sensing array that we built
into an arm in order to detect and localize finger tap on forearm
and hands.
• This system performs well even when the body is in motion.
