Fond Project Update
Thursday 15th
October, 2015-St. George’s-
There has been a slight delay in the Fond Project which will see the lighting of the
playing field according to FIFA standards. Project Consultant Cecil Frederick says
adverse weather conditions have caused a three day delay.
The contractors Musco Lighting are engaged in casting eight (8) foundations for
single light poles. Thus far, two have been cast since work began in mid
September.
The project which costs approximately half a million US dollars is being funded by
the Grenada Football Association through FIFA. At the completion, Fond will be lit
by more than 90 lights, illuminating the field according to FIFA standards and
attracting international matches.
Frederick said, “This will mean that not only can games be played at night, but
broadcast media will also be able to comfortably record a match.”
The consultant says the project will also have marked social and economic benefits
for the surrounding communities. Frederick said, “The standard of the game will be
lifted because teams will be able to train for longer periods while night games will
boost business in the area. Also young people will have an area for their social
activities.”
The GFA remains committed to investing in projects that will boost the
development of football in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
