3. Climate neutrality, sustainability, employee satisfaction - these are the qualities that
more and more companies are striving for. One of the reasons for the increasing
sense of responsibility is that topics such as ESG criteria are moving further into the
focus of investors. With the EU taxonomy established in 2020, the term sustainability
was defined, so it can be delineated which companies actually act in this sense.
Within the EU taxonomy, a great emphasis was placed on employee mobility, which
is why it is now increasingly becoming the focus of entrepreneurs. The complexity of
mobility and the management of numerous stakeholders may look complicated at
first glance. The Corporate Sustainable Mobility Plan provides you with a structured
guide and makes it easier for you to maintain an overview.

5. The daily journey to work has a great influence on the well-being of the workforce.
Actively involving employees in mobility planning is therefore essential for the
acceptance and success of the measures implemented. If alternative means of
transport are used willingly and frequently, this can have numerous positive effects
on employee satisfaction and health. Especially in the area of recruiting and employer
branding, corporate mobility management is considered to play a significant role.
However, the importance of sustainable mobility is not only growing in the eyes of
employees; investors are also increasingly taking note of these future-oriented
measures. A company that attaches importance to sustainability and long-term
thinking must by no means neglect the factor of environmental pollution caused by
commuter traffic. Commuting emissions account for a decisive share of the CO2
emissions of the total traffic volume. Which mode of transport is chosen for
commuting to work depends to a large extent on the framework conditions provided
by the company. Not only the choice of location plays a role here, but also the
specifications and incentives provided by the company. Promoting sustainable
mobility in your company therefore not only reveals potential for sustainability, but
also for far-reaching improvements in your company in the categories of costs and
employee well-being/health.

8. This phase can take approximately 5 - 6 weeks
In the first phase, the foundation is laid on which the further course of the Corporate
Sustainable Mobility Plan is built. Important elements such as capacities,
responsibilities and tasks are already clarified and assigned here. In addition, all
necessary data for an analysis is collected in this phase.
Before the planning process can begin, management commitment must be obtained.
This assurance from management levels is the foundation on which the rest of the
plan is built and on which successful implementation depends. It is therefore

A good CSMP team can look like the following
Basic tasks should be defined at this stage and entered into your CSMP project plan.
Responsibilities should already be assigned to team members. This way,
responsibilities and schedules are clarified early on and capacities can be secured.
The plan also gives the contributors insight into contact persons and the status of
preceding tasks.
advisable to obtain written assurance that resources have been secured for a certain
period of time and that internal authority to issue directives has been granted.
The first step is to create the team that will carry out the implementation of the CSMP
in your company. Which colleagues will be part of the CSMP team should ideally be
determined by management. This is an essential part of creating and implementing
the plan, as upcoming tasks must already be defined in order to estimate the
capacities of the team members. To ensure that there is one main contact person for
all matters related to the CSMP, a Project Lead is appointed.
Phase 1: Preparation & Analysis

9/29
10. The project planning tool used to present the CSMP is up to each company. However,
the introduction of a mobility concept should be a well planned project. Creating a
project management plan and a roadmap is therefore strongly recommended.

Phase 1: Preparation & Analysis

10/29
11. In the second step, employee data is collected to determine which means of
transport they use on their way to work. For this purpose, existing data from Human
Resources is used as well as data generated by an employee survey.
What data must be provided by HR? To be able to perform an analysis of the status
quo, the postal code is usually required as a priority. For more input-intensive
projects, street names and house numbers can also be included.
Step 2:
Conduct data acquisition and analysis
Maintain data security and privacy compliance by collecting only GDPR-compliant
information.

12. In order to promote a successful change to a sustainable mobility structure in the
company, it is essential to take measures that employees are happy to use. It is
therefore important to involve them in the planning process at an early stage. The
employee survey is the first step in gathering all the necessary information for
successful action planning. In situation-adapted surveys, employees can, for
example, provide information on their satisfaction with their commute to work and
select preferred means of transport for their commute.
To ensure a detailed evaluation in the next phase, the survey includes details on the
employee's current commute. How do they get to work? How good are the transport
connections at your company location?

Phase 1: Preparation & Analysis
15. This phase can take approximately 2 - 3 weeks
Phase 2: Evaluation and Strategy development
The aim of this phase is to analyze the evaluated employee data and identify the
potential for sustainable mobility in your company.
The employee data collected in phase 1 can be used to simulate the routes to work.
The results of this analysis represent the status quo of the company with regard to
the mobility situation.
Step 3:
Evaluate mobility situation and
identify potentials
Phase 2: Evaluation & Strategy development
15
15/29
16. The analysis of this company location shows in orange which employees have good public transport connections with a
reasonable commute time. Employees living in green areas can reach their workplace in less than 30 minutes by bike. For
employees in the blue areas, the commute to work is a maximum 30-minute walk.
Finding out which employees have good connections to alternative means of
transport helps you identify potential for sustainable mobility solutions. The
evaluation shows which employees are connected to public transport, who is
connected to cycling and walking routes that are within easy reach of the workplace,
or who lives on the same route and could carpool.
Phase 2: Evaluation & Strategy development
16
16/29
17. The analysis identifies mobility potential for the company. From this, the CSMP team
can make an informed decision about goals for the company. It may turn out that
there is great potential for the use of public transport, or that many employees live
within easy reach by bike. The CSMP team should therefore consider which vision
best fits the company culture before identifying measures.
Schritt 4:
Define the company vision
Focus on better public transport connections?
Promote or expand opportunities to walk/bike to work?
Introduce networking tools for carpools?
Rent co-working spaces close to home?
undertake infrastructural measures?
or apply organizational and awareness measures?

Visions can vary significantly in terms of cost and time. When deciding on the
vision, it is therefore important to keep the goal to be achieved in mind and only
select strategies that can be realistically implemented.

18. Checklist at the end of Phase 2
The employee data was analyzed
The status quo of the mobility situation was presented
The modal split was determined
Potentials for improvements were identified
The vision was defined by the CSMP team
Phase 2: Evaluation & Strategy development
20. This phase can take approximately 3 - 4 weeks
In this phase, planning is completed. Concrete measures are selected and everything
is prepared for their implementation. The CSMP can be finalized.
The aim is to find sensible measures that improve the mobility situation on the way to
work and thus reduce CO2 emissions and costs on the one hand, and measurably
increase the health and productivity of employees on the other.
Phase 3: Planning the measures
Step 5:
Define measures and create roadmap
Phase 3: Planning the measures
20
20/29
21. The analysis of the employee data clearly shows the optimal modal split for commuting. At this company location,
the orange background shows which employees live in the public transport catchment area. The employees in the
area highlighted in green live within easy reach of their workplace by bicycle. For employees living outside these
zones, it is also shown which colleagues can share the commute to work by car as passengers. This analysis can
serve as a basis for a well-founded determination of measures.
The results of the analysis help to illustrate the potential for each measure so that you
can make a data-driven decision.
Phase 3: Planning the measures
It is advisable to treat each measure as a separate project and to create a separate
project plan accordingly. Even if members of the CSMP team are involved in the
implementation of several measures, the overview can be maintained in this way and
work can be carried out in a goal-oriented manner.
21
21/29
22. Based on the analysis, the CSMP team decides which measures to implement and
assigns corresponding responsibilities. The reduction of CO2 emissions up to the
increase of employee satisfaction and location attractiveness can thus be effectively
covered.
Step 6:
The CSMP is completed
Project planning tools can support successful implementation. For the clear
implementation of measures, for example, the creation of a roadmap is a good
idea.
Our triply Tipp
Thus, in the 3rd phase, all planning activities should be completed and the CSMP can
be finalized.

Measures are selected by the CSMP team
Measures are sorted by importance
A project plan is created for each measure
A roadmap for the implementation of the measures is
created
The CSMP is finalized
Phase 3: Planning the measures
25. How much time this phase takes can vary depending on the strategy
and measures selected
In the final phase, the CSMP is put into action. The planned measures from the
previous phases are implemented and documented.
The roadmap of measures are implemented in this phase. For this purpose, it is important to
define the responsibilities of the respective measures within the members of the CSMP team.
Phase 4: Implementation and Monitoring
Step 7:
Measures are implemented
Phase 4: Implementation & Monitoring
25
25/29
26. Before the analysis, decide in which intervals you want to perform the monitoring.
Thus, the achievable optimum can be calculated for these periods.
Our triply Tipp
In order to control whether the measures are successful, monitoring benchmarks can
be made based on the calculated achievable optimum.
The CSMP team establishes intervals at which the company's successes with regard
to the mobility situation are measured. If these do not match the achievable optimum,
it may be necessary to make adjustments.
Step 8:
Status Quo Update and Monitoring
Another important aspect in this step is communication with employees. To ensure
that the implemented measures are also used, it must be clearly communicated
which measures are available from which point in time. Ongoing updates, campaigns
and employee actions can also be useful to encourage participation in measures.
Phase 4: Implementation & Monitoring
26
26/29
27. Checklist at the end of Phase 4
Defined measures are implemented according to the roadmap
Employees are informed about the new measures
Measures are compared with the achievable optimum at regular
intervals
In case of strong deviations from the achievable optimum,
adjustments are made.
After querying the employee data, not only the status quo of the mobility situation but also the current modal split
can be displayed. In addition, the achievable optimum for a specific period is calculated. This optimum can serve
as a benchmark for monitoring.
Phase 4: Implementation & Monitoring
27
27/29
28. Do you have the full commitment of senior management?
Are the right colleagues represented in the CSMP with sufficient capacity?
Are the measures in line with your vision and corporate culture?
Are you using appropriate project management tools to organize the CSMP and
its measures?
Are employees sufficiently informed about the measures and how to access
them?
With the completion of the 4th phase, you can reflect on what has worked well or not
so well and question why this is.
The CSMP gives you the structure that accompanies you in all phases on the way
to sustainable mobility for your employees. As shown in the cycle, the CSMP is
anything but rigid. It is a dynamic process that allows and encourages
readjustment and continuous improvement.
Congratulations, you have created your
Corporate Sustainable Mobility Plan and
put the measures into action!
