Ofcom has launched a consultation on the possibility of entire commercial
radio and television stations being sponsored, rather than individual shows or
features, which is what regulations allow at present.
Responses are sought on a range of issues regarding the extent to which the
current rules should be changed and the possible execution of channel
sponsorship through on-air credits. Most of the issues raised relate to
specialised television channels, but Ofcom mentions 'Saga Radio' specifically
as an example of an existing radio station that is already cross-promoting a
brand that exists in other markets for goods and services.
Opinions should be sent to Ofcom by 20 April 2006.
