2. What
• Butt it Out is a smoking cessation app aimed at people who
wish to cut down or give up smoking cigarettes.
• Key features of the app will include a “cold Turkey” timer
providing statistics pertaining to health benefits and money
saved for the duration of time that the user has been
abstaining from smoking,
• A “Cut Down Tracker” allowing users to accurately keep track
of how much they are smoking and providing them with
targets, GPS data and time of smoking.
• And also aftercare, providing users with tips to handle cravings
positive reinforcement and links to online articles in order to
keep users motivated after they have quit smoking.
3. How
• Axure is a wireframing, rapid prototyping, and
specification software tool aimed at web and desktop
applications. We are using this program to design a
prototype of our Butt it Out App. Our previous experience
with this program is that we have used it in second year to
develop a prototype of an app last year. Axure will allow
us to develop a prototype where users can navigate
through different pages by making buttons, we do not
have to write code for these actions/buttons.
4.
5. Who
• The app will be trailed primarily by college students.
• We have previously used SurveyMonkey to find out what
features potential users wished to be included in the app
and so we intend on using it again to create a survey
aimed at users who have trailed the app in order to
receive feedback regarding improvements, features they
may have liked and features they may have considered
unecessary.
6. Psychology & Design
• It is important to consider human users when designing
an app. Consequentially an ergonomic approach is
necessary to ensure that software is user friendly (Xu,
2014). With this in mind we aim to address Norman
(1988)’s 7 principals of ergonomics when designing our
app.
• Forming the Goal
• Forming the intention
• Specifying an action
• Executing the action
• Perceiving the state of the world
• Interpreting the state of the world
• Evaluating the outcome
7. Who in the Team??
• Graham – Primary Azure designer
• Ian – Survey analysis and documentation of results
• Caoimhe – Research into format of app’s and design
• Frank – Design of user interface
