Obesity in pregnancy can lead to several maternal and fetal complications. Mothers face increased risks of diabetes, hypertension, cesarean section and complications from anesthesia and post-cesarean surgery. Babies are at higher risk of being macrosomic, having birth defects, stillbirth, prematurity, and developing childhood obesity. Determining fetal size and wellbeing during labor and delivery can also be challenging for obese pregnant women.
