This document outlines a project brief for a 20-25 minute film about the Institute of the Poor Sisters of Our Lady. The film will have 7 parts highlighting the social outreach, education, pastoral activity, and care for the aged provided by the Sisters. It will feature case studies, testimonials from students and seniors in care, and interviews with Sisters. The film aims to establish relationships within the community and with benefactors by showing pride in the Sisters' work and stirring enthusiasm through viewing their impact and living out their mission of compassion.
1. / PROJECT BRIEF /
Project Brief: Film on the Institute of the Poor Sisters of Our Lady
Duration: 20-25 minutes
Purpose: To establish relationships (within the community, between the Institute and
the benefactors/sponsors/ lay communities)
Note: While most members of the community are aware of what the Institute does as a whole
and many have hands on experience, it is only when such work viewed as a ‘spectator’ that
one receives the whole picture. This is an effort to create ‘pride in what we do’ and stir up
enthusiasm, particularly with the newcomers. The broader aim is greater cohesiveness and
renewed vigour as also involvement of lay collaborators in a mission that is ultimately God’s
own work. For this, we look at their Apostolate in Action.
Introduction: Movie starts with a sad, evocative instrumental in the background... the
camera moves in to take a close up of a small girl...tears fall ... the shot goes on to reveal her
grief and abandonment. What hope does this child have?
PART I
Apostolate: Social Outreach
This section will feature, in brief, extracts from two case studies from Divya Prabha.
Purpose: To communicate the original situation and the eventual transformation of the girls.
Vasai: Anyone from the first 10 girls who are still with DP.
Thane: Rani or Aishwirya
Sister Annie: Original mentor and key figure. Has devoted her entire life to the cause..
(Used to sit on the platforms with these street kids… is now working with Remand Homes as
well… one outstanding moment??)
Voice and linking VO: Introduction: the Sisters, their impact on the children, their Vision
and Mission and their Charism. What made them step into this field? Questions: Who are
these Angels of Mercy? Who are these purveyors of compassion? Who are these
compassionate/selfless souls???How did it all begin? (Not more than 7-8 lines)
2. PART II
Apostolate: Education
This section will feature, in brief, two segments from Educational Institutions: St. Anne’s
Dabul and Divine Child, Andheri
Purpose: To communicate the impact of the education imparted by the PSOLs
St. Anne’s Dabul: Testimony from one student and Sr. Romana (to indicate what being a St.
Anne’s student means and a brief statement of the aims and objectives – how is the education
imparted here more meaningful, different, impactful?)
Divine Child: Testimony from one student and Sr. Lawrencia (one or two significant impacts
felt by the child and a brief statement of what the future could hold – how this particular
educational institute will make a difference)
Voice and linking VO: Education is a tool for social transformation. Education of the girl
child is even more impactful given the status of the Girl Child in India. Why have the PSOL
taken up education as part of their mission? What was the vision that inspired them? How
does it link with their Spirituality and Charism? How is their education philosophy
significant – ethics based so that children develop values throughout their formation. Further
developmental efforts beyond school – Divine Child Polytechnic. (Not more than 5-6 lines)
PART III
Apostolate: Pastoral Activity
Starting with current visuals, the narration would loop back to the time when the ‘need for a
Diocesan Congregation of Nuns was felt’ and how, as a result, the PSOLs came into
existence... From here the narration would move forward covering the Apostolate of Pastoral
Activity.... Some very interesting information about the village of Bidkin (Aurangabad) where
there were mobile altars for Masses can be included. (2-3 min)
Animated interaction – conversations – with Sisters and people.
Part IV
Apostolate: Care for the Aged
What happens when you are old and cannot care for yourself? What happens when you
become dependent and have no one to depend on? Where do you go? Homes for the aged are
already run by other communities, so why did the PSOL enter this field? What is special
about these homes, where are they located and how are they run?
3. Interview: With senior citizens in care and with the Sisters in charge. Some insights about
the most challenging situations and cases. What motivates them, what keeps them going.
How does this fulfil their vision and mission? How do they connect their Spirituality with
what they do?
PART VI
Focus on historical aspect, development and the way forward.
Narration: Spirituality of the Congregation i.e. their patrons, which will then lead to a brief
reference to Mother Patricia, her focus and drive. Through a link between Spirituality and
Action, in the narration, the work in Aurangabad towards women’s empowerment could be
used to focus on the way forward.
PART VII
Conclusion: A 5-6 line concluding statement followed by one liners from the beneficiaries
and the Sisters.... Close ups of the speakers against background shots from locations.
