2. The Gentleman’s Magazine, first published in 1731, in
London was the first magazine. The printing press was one
of three inventions that changed the whole face and state
of things throughout the world. Magazines were also
known as periodicals, serials, glossies and slicks. The term
magazine was coined for this use by Edward Cave, editor of
Gentleman's Magazine. They are publications that appear
on a regular schedule and contain a variety of articles. The
name magazine, which comes from the Arabic word which
means the warehouse. It contained many useful
information for travelers and sailors.
3. Most magazines use the same conventions, but they all
target different audiences. There are three types of
magazines:
Consumer: the type of magazines that target audiences
with special interests. For example, sports, home, news,
fashion, teen gossip etc.
Trade and professional: the type of magazines that target
people working in business or professional fields. These
provide news information and advertising content.
House Organ: it is also known as in house magazines are
published by special interest groups and affinity groups for
their customers, employees, clients and members.

5. Why are magazines distributed?
Paid: the magazine is sold to the readers for a
price, either on per issue basis or by subscription.
Free: the magazines have no cover price so they
are given away for free.
Controlled: the magazines contain industry
based publications distributed to specific readers,
usually free determined by a survey.
6. The past few years the magazines have seen a lot of
changes. An increasing number are abandoning
their print presence, and staking out a digital
identity. While iPads bring new possibilities in
magazine production, but it can never replace the
need for printed magazines. Magazines shape our
lives by telling us what to wear, what to eat, what
to think about ourselves and the world around us.
Although this is the age of Internet, we still enjoy
magazines, admiring their pages, editorials,
headlines.
