A protocol is outlined for recovering needles lost during minimally invasive surgery: [1] Halt surgery and avoid moving equipment to prevent needle migration. [2] Inspect ports and use magnetic retrieval if available. [3] Obtain intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging. [4] Search operating table, drapes, and floor. [5] Perform a systematic visual search of each abdominal quadrant in a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion if imaging fails to locate the needle.
