6. – More than 32,500 cases of rape were registered with the police in 2017, about
90 a day, according to the most recent government data . Indian courts
disposed of only about 18,300 cases related to rape that year, leaving more
than 127,800 cases pending at the end of 2017. Overall, 72.2% of rape victims
were above 18 years and 27.8 per cent below 18.
– In many parts of the world ,rape is very rarely reported , due to the extreme
social stigma cast on women who have been raped, or the fear of being
disowned by their families, or subjected to violence ,including honor killings.
– Most rape research and reporting to date has been limited to male female form
of rape. Research on male-male and female-male is beginning to be done .
However, almost no research has been done on female rape, through women
can be charged with rape in some jurisdiction.
