Stay alert, especiallyat night.
Fines may double for violations in work zones.
Expect work zones to constantly change.Day to day, you could experience lane shifts, closures or moving
workers and vehicles.
Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
Be patient. Expect delays, especiallyduring peak travel times.
2. Construction Zone Driver Safety Tips
Plan Ahead - know where and when construction projects are taking place and plan ahead.Use a different
route or give yourselfplenty of extra time.
Look for orange - work zones are marked with signs, cones, barriers, and other traffic control devices.Be
extra alert when in these areas.
Don't make unnecessarylane changes
Slow down! - Drivers speeding are one ofthe main causes ofwork zone crashes. The lanes oftravel will
constantlychange and can become narrower.Obey the posted speed limits, increase your following distance
and keep space around your vehicle. Be prepared to slow down by covering the brake when you are in difficult
situations.
No Distractions - Stay off phones, pay attention to the road and the obstacles you will encounter through the
work zone. Now is not the time to turn the radio or talk with the passenger ofthe vehicle. Keep your eyes
focused on the road and no gawking atthe construction.
