Tamil Nadu, or land of the Tamils, is the 10th
largest state of India and is located in the extreme
south of the Indian subcontinent.
It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the east and
south, and by the states of Kerala to the west,
Karnataka to the northwest, and Andhra Pradesh
to the north.

9. EASTERN GHATS
The Eastern Ghats are not continuous when
compared to the Western Ghats.
They are dissected into isolated hill ranges
extending from northeast to southwest
through the districts of Vellore, Dharmapuri,
and Erode.

The coastal plains of Tamil Nadu extend to a length
of 1000 km from Pulicat lake in the North to
Kanyakumari in the South and have an average
height of 50 mt.

Tamil Nadu is situated on the South-Eastern coast
of India. Tamil Nadu has the second largest
coastline
It has a coastal length of approximately 1,076
kilometres, which accounts for more than 13 per
cent of India's total coastline.

the Dosa.

The festival takes place in
January and is celebrated
as an expression of
gratitude for the Harvest,
and hence is also known as
the Harvest festival of the
state.

Carnatic Music is the most
significant part of the Music
of Tamil Nadu.
Carnatic Music is well known
and is beloved by music
lovers all around the world.
21. DANCE OF TAMIL NADU
The state is also home to some of
the elegant and mesmerizing
dance forms prevalent in the
world today.
Bharatanatyam is perhaps the
most popular dance form in Tamil
Nadu.
23. BRIHADISHWARA TEMPLE
Location: Thanjavur
It is a brilliant example of the major heights
achieved by Cholas kingdom Vishwakarmas in
Tamil architecture.
It is a tribute and a reflection of the power of it's
patron Raja Chola.

25. SRI RANGANATHASWAMY TEMPLE
Location: Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli.
It is one of the most important temples for
worshipping Lord Vishnu
The temple occupies an area of 156 acres (631,000
m²) with a perimeter of 4,116m (10,710 feet)
making it the largest temple in India and one of
the largest religious complexes in the world
27. THILLAI NATARAJA TEMPLE
Location: Chidambaram.
The temple complex spread over 40 acres (160,000
m2) in the heart of the city.
The place where temple located is the center point
of world's magnetic equator.
The 9 gateways signify the 9 orifices in the human
body.
29. KASI VISWANATHAR TEMPLE
The beautiful temple tower is a highlight of this
temple; it is nine storey’s tower with 178
feet height.
The Kasi Viswanathar temple which spreads for
4 acres approximately is built in Somaskanda
style.
32. TYPES OF FORESTS IN TAMIL NADU
In Tamil Nadu, Forest
vegetation is divided into 3
major groups according to
temperature zones namely
Tropical Forests, Montane
Subtropical Forests and
Montane Temperate Forests

This type of forest is
present on the
western ghats of
Tirunelveli,
Kanyakumari.
34. MONTANE SUBTROPICAL FORESTS
The semi-evergreen
type of forest,
present in the
subtropical region
of the state in
eastern ghats..
35. MONTANE TEMPERATE FORESTS
The montane forest
mostly confined to
moist and glens and
hollows as in the
Anamalais, Nilgiri
and Palan.
36. WILDLIFE IN TAMIL NADU
There are more than 2000
species of fauna that can be
found in Tamil Nadu This rich
wildlife is attributed to the
diverse relief features as well
as favorable climate and
vegetation in the Indian state
