2.  Full form of IELTS is -
International English Language Testing
System
 IELTS is owned by IDP – International Development Program based out of
Australia.

3.  Designed to assess the language ability of non-native English speakers who wish to study or
work in a country where English is the language of communication.
 Suitable for people planning to complete their secondary education or undertake work exp or
training programs.

4.  Tests all 4 skills- Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking in the test takers.
 Contains sections of questions and assessments based on the 4 modules which forms the
basic of any language.

5.  The score in IELTS ranges from 0-9 band.
 Each module will have individual band of 0-9.
 The overall score will be the average of the scores of all 4 modules.
 Each band corresponds to certain level of English proficiency. Each module and the
Overall Band Score can be scored in whole and half bands like 6.5, 7.0, 7.5 and so on.
 The results from the four parts will then give an Overall Band Score.
 This unique 9-band system measures scores in a consistent across the world. It is
internationally recognized and understood.
 Ex. If a person takes L – 6.5 ; R – 7.5 ; W – 6 ; S – 7 ; then the overall score will be 7.

6. There are two types of the test which a test taker can choose as per the
requirement – Academic and General Training.
 Academic
The Academic type is for those who want to pursue education in an
English-speaking university or Institutions. Undergraduate and
postgraduate course admission process is based on the score of the
Academic IELTS test.
 General
General Training format focuses on basic survival skills in a broad social
and workplace contexts. It is typically for those who are going to English-
speaking countries to do work experience or employment.
Academic test result can also be required for some profession’s registration
and migration requirement.

IELTS Test Format
The Listening and Speaking modules remain the same in both the types but have different Reading and Writing modules. The total duration of the test is 2hrs and 30 mins, with
speaking module on a separate date having around 15 mins of interview.

 Anyone who wish to go a native English-speaking country must have to score the
required band to get entry.

9.  Almost every country has made it compulsory except a few with some conditions
incase of education applicants. But for employment or immigration, IELTS is a
must score.
 UK, France, Italy, Spain and other European countries have not mandated the
test. A valid English test score of 65% or more in their school or College education
is enough to get the admit. Mostly they will have interview process as selection
criteria.
 If the score is not 65% and above, then the applicant might have to take an IELTS
or TOEFL tests as directed.

10.  As of 2022, the cost of IELTS in India is Rs.15500 + Rs.150 as online handling
charges.

11.  Register online and pay easily using Netbanking, Debit/Credit card and Paytm
 You may either book your IELTS test online or visit your nearest IDP branch to book it offline. Here’s how:
 Log on to our IELTS India website.
 Select the option ‘Register for IELTS.’
 Select your preferred test – computer-delivered IELTS/ paper-based (IELTS, IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills).
 Select your test type/module – Academic or General Training for IELTS, IELTS for UKVI, A1 and B1 for Life
Skills (be extremely careful while choosing the module you wish to take).
 Pick your desired test location/city (from the available IELTS test centres in India).
 Once done, you will find a list of dates available for your preferences. Select your desired date and time slot.
 Fill up the required details and complete your online application. Remember, you will also have to upload a
clear, scanned colour copy of your passport to complete the process.
 Proceed to pay the test fee.

13.  After entering the details, go to preview and check for the correctness of details and
spelling.
 Once if it is entered, you can’t change the details.
 Take a print-out or save the application form as PDF for future reference.
 Once your test date is booked, you will receive an acknowledgment on your registered
email/phone number.
 In case you do not prefer to register using the online registration mode, alternatively you
may register in person at the nearest IDP IELTS branch or Referral Partner.
 Documents required at the time of registration include photocopy of your passport ID
(front and back page) and signed and dated declaration document.
