Free Cancer screening and treatment programme launched at
GEM Hospital, Coimbatore in Association with Rotary Club of
Coimbatore “Care for Life”
Why this programme ? “ Care for Life” - Most important problem is lack
of awareness about cancer in India. Former president Bharat Ratna Dr A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam asked me “My heart felt appreciation for all your innovations. You may cure
cancer patients in early stage. Can you treat advanced cancer”, I said no. “The
effect of not knowing the disease is worse than cancers by itself. Talk to the people
create awareness then the innovations will be useful” he said. Care for life is to create
awareness and cure is the aim of this initiative. Logo also carries the same

1. Free treatment to poor people. Laparoscopic cancer surgery is not available in gov-
ernment hospitals, corporate hospitals also not having this facility and trained cancer
surgeons. We provide the most advanced cancer care to the underprivileged free of cost.
2. Website exclusive for cancer - Education about cancer, News & Information Guiding the
cancer patients to go to centres of excellence in different cancers
3. Patients forum - ambassadors to the public
Functioning of the programme Saturday screening clinic 2-4 pm Selection
for free surgeries by committee members comprising rotary clubs and GEM doctors
for “Care for life” Who are people will be benefited? any one from South India
Initially 3 cancer surgeries in a week Hospital charges free Drugs and consumables
will be supported by rotary and GEM Medical trust. A separate Bank account is
opened in the name of “Care for life”. This will be accountable to all committee
members. Other than this any other than rotary clubs and GEM medical trust one
want to support cancer patient will be appreciated. May provide supported one or
depending on their choice. One may do it in theirs parents name or of their choice.
Patient will be informed about the sponsor who is supporting and Sponsor will be
informed at the time of surgery to come and see the patient.
