World hepatitis day
GEM Hospital launches Apps and 24 hours helpline for liver disease
GEM Hospital Coimbatore has launched App and 24 hrs
helpline for liver related problems at the function organized
to observe world hepatitis day on July 28th, 2016. This public
initiative was part of the save liver for safe life. This Campaign
is initiated by GEM Hospital to spread awareness about safe
practices to keep healthy liver, in association with Rotary
international.
The liver App was inaugurated by R.V.Ramya Bharathi IPS,
Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore and 24 hrs helpline
was declared open by Rtn. Prakash Angappan , District
Director , Coimbatore.
Dr. C. Palanivelu chairman Gem Hospital during his welcome
speech stressed the importance of such programme in
creating awareness among the public with regards to liver
safety. As more than 75% liver problems are related to alcohol,
viral hepatitis and fatty liver which are easily preventable. If
chronic liver problem is not diagnosed and treated proper-
ly, patient may develop cirrhosis 80% of cirrhotic patient
may develop liver cancer. GEM Hospital to treat this kind of
cancer has started care for life programme jointly with all
Rotary club of Coimbatore. This App and 24 hrs helpline will
educate, provide guidance and treatment for all liver
problems, including emergency situation.
All the rotary clubs in the entire Coimbatore region
(Rotary G35 clubs) are joining with GEM Hospital for
the successful implementation of this project and co-
ordinated by Rtn. Varatharajan, Assistant Governor,
Chairman, Care for Life.

Vijai, liver transplant surgeon at GEM Hospital
proposed Vote of thanks.
To mark the world hepatitis day, GEM Hospital is also
conducting a week long free hepatitis B vaccination,
screening for Hepatitis B & C virus along with fibro
scan which detects liver damage due to alcohol and
hepatitis. This camp is the free of cost for the public in
this one week period.
