Minister Aditya Nath Yogi has very smartly
and timely set “Love Jihad” as one of his most
strategic plans for 2022 Assembly polls by
making Love Jihad cases as non-cognizable
criminal offence with five years imprison-
ment. Yogi has stolen the show from the opposition par-
ties, including the Congress, which have been caught
unaware of Yogi’s this tactical move. Except Rajasthan
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, no other Congress leader
across the country and even Mayawati and Akhilesh
Yadav in Lucknow have been able to work out a well-
thought plan and strategy to suitably respond to Yogi’s
controversial Love Jihad offensive. According to sourc-
es, Yogi’s two mentors Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Home Minister Amit Shah are also curiously watch-
ing their UP nominee Yogi’s “2022 game plan”. Political
observers are of the view that after Ram Mandir move-
ment, Love Jihad may turn to be an another emotion-
ally and politically super hit story of the Saffron party
in Yogi led Uttar Pradesh. Surprisingly, with no admin-
istrative background, this Ghorakhpur “Monk”, main-
ly assisted by his two principal aides Avinash Awasthi
and Navneet Sehgal, is proving to be a tough Adminis-
trator and also one of the most popular leader even out-
side UP, after Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Now,
Yogi’s Love Jihad mission may bring some more popu-
larity and laurels to his political career.

ing teeth to the police to check
misuse of social media has given
rise to fears that the state envis-
aged curtailing freedom of ex-
pression. Allaying the fears the government
maintained that the law was intended to os-
tensibly prevent cybercrime against women
and children. The law added to the Police Act
as Section 118-A empowers the police to suo
motu register a case against an accused and
arrest him. It provides for either a fine of Rs
10000 or five-year imprisonment or both. It is
the wording of the Kerala Police Act Amend-
ment Ordinance signed by Governor Arif
Mohammad Khan that has raised the hackles
of opposition parties and experts who were
apprehensive of its misuse.
The law stipulates punishment for those
who produce, publish, or disseminate content
through any means of communication with
an intention to intimidate, insult, or defame
any person through social media. Chief Min-
ister Vijayan Pinarayi said that the law was
formulated to check abuse of social media to
tarnish the image of individuals. The govern-
ment also contended that the law was intro-
duced as it had no legal option to deal with
cybercrime after the Supreme Court repealed
Section 66-A of the IT Act and Section 118-D
of the Kerala Police Act which curtailed free-
dom of expression.
On the face of it, even the new law has am-
ple scope for misuse at a time when the Chief
Minister’s Office itself is under a cloud but
as political leaders and bureaucrats become
increasingly intolerant of negative publicity,

livery driver in Paris after putting him in a
chokehold.

At present, the Indian com-
panies require to peek outside

tion’s thinking and adopt pro-
fessional management. The

dustries to the Indian economy

sional management is required
here in small scale industries
to develop them at 2x speed and
to achieve new peaks. In small
and medium scale industries,
the role of the CEO is in the
same hands as the owner. In
such cases, the company’s fu-
ture is governed by the promo-
tors of the company.
But now it is high time, small
industries need to hire a CEO
in the true sense. It is time for
the CEO to take responsibility
and anticipate the result. For
this, the promoters of indus-
tries have to upgrade their
thinking with new professional
clothes. If a promoter wants to
achieve new peaks and goals,
he needs to serve as CEO or ap-
point a new business head, to
make it more professional and
optimistic. The future of the
company and its working at-
mosphere depends upon the
attitude of its higher authority.
At present, the promoters are
running the company on the
things that they like and think
is appropriate. Many a time
professionals working in the
company are very intelligently
gifted, but they do not own
their intellect, instead, they do
agree with the owners in their
decision about the firm, and
ultimately company suffers.
The time has come for the
CEO or promoter to perform
extraordinarily as the profes-
sionals in the large scale indus-
tries do. As professionals are
evaluated and appraised every
year, CEOs or promoters also
need to be evaluated profes-
sionally as well. If the compa-
ny owner is acting as the CEO
of the company, he has to make
policies to evaluate his own
performance. Depending on
the growth and profits given by
the promoters of the company,
the company’s CEO has to give
a salaried increase or even a
dividend.
Last year, a prominent ven-
ture capitalist organization in
India surveyed how the perfor-
mance of the CEO could im-
prove the performance of the
company. Nearly 800 compa-
nies were taken into considera-
tion for the survey. The results
were very interesting. When
asked about the growth of the
company credit was given into
the owner’s account, while D-
growth was reasoned to be
changed in the market and
called the weak ability of work-
ers. Some of the CEOs also said
that our segment has very
toughcompetitionduetowhich
our company’s performance
has been stalled. Less than 1%
of the CEO or promoter ac-
knowledged that some of their
decisions went against the in-
terest of the company and ulti-
mately the company suffered.
In this survey over 80% of the
employees said that the com-
pany can grow more, and you’ll
be surprised to know that more
than 70% of employees said
that they are not happy with
the working methods and deci-
sions of the promoter and if
they’ll get a chance, they’d hap-
pily leave the company.
It is to be said that, in India
more than 75% of business
houses are based on small-scale
industries, the main perfor-
mance index of the company is
proportional to the perfor-
mance, thinking, and decision
of its CEO. In the present sce-
nario, there is no criterion for
the valuation CEO. Promotors
even do not even believe that
they should be evaluated. Em-
ployees are evaluated at least
once a year, similarly, the CEO
should also be evaluated every
year. CEOs can take or dip the
performance company. There-
fore, their performance evalu-
ation should be given more
importance than that of evalu-
ating employees. Because one
good employee will serve the
company at tide period, others
will support the firm at ebbs,
but CEO have to take the com-
pany at both (tides and ebbs).

United States was at the
forefront of establishing

Nations, the International
Monetary Fund, the World
Trade Organization, and
much else. America was
exceptional in that, despite
its stature at the end of
World War II, it chose to
buildaworldorderthrough
multilateralism and global
institutions, rather than
pursuing reparations and
unilateralism.
It is almost impossible to
comprehend how much
damage Donald Trump’s
presidency has done to
America’s global standing
these past four years. From
the start, his administra-
tion sought to reverse long-
standing policies that had
been embraced by Republi-
cans and Democrats alike.
Preferring unilateral-
ism, Trump abandoned
the Trans-Pacific Partner-
ship (TPP) and demanded
a renegotiation of the
North American Free
Trade Agreement, the US-
Korea Free Trade Agree-
ment, and other accords.
He slapped tariffs on im-
ported steel and aluminum
under the pretext of “na-
tional security,” in viola-
tion of the spirit, if not the
letter, of international
trade law under the WTO.
These decisions – and
Trump’s behavior more
generally – quickly eroded
the confidence that other
countries had previously
placed in US leadership
and “soft power.” The US,
suddenly, could no longer
be trusted to honor its
commitments.
While multilateralism
cannot guarantee the US
complete fulfillment of its
objectives, it certainly can
achieve more than bilater-
al deal making of the kind
Trump has pursued. With
4.25% of the world’s popu-
lation and accounting for
15.2% of its GDP, the US is
nowhere near large enough
to impose its will on the
rest of the world. Rather,
US influence is most en-
hanced when it is deployed
in concert with others. No-
where is this truer than on
the issue of trade.
ConsiderTrump’s“trade
war” with China, which
has utterly failed to meet
its stated objectives. The
bilateral trade deficit with
China has grown, and US
exports to China are falling
well below the target level
implied in the “phase one”
agreement the two coun-
tries signed in January. Is-
sues such as intellectual-
property rights and e-com-
merce remain unad-
dressed. Perhaps even
worse, demanding that
China set quantitative tar-
gets for purchases of US
exports has only increased
the extent to which the Chi-
nese state must intervene
in its economy.
These failures do not
come as a surprise. Tariffs
cannot be expected to re-
duce a bilateral trade defi-
cit, and bilateral measures
are usually offset by third-
party actions anyway. For
example, in 2019, US im-
ports from Vietnam rose
sharply as its imports from
China declined. And there
have been numerous com-
plaints about Chinese ex-
ports to the US being rout-
ed through other countries
to hide their origin.
The Trump administra-
tion’s one-on-one deal
making has failed for a
simple and obvious rea-
son: we live in a multi-
country world. Tariffs and
other discriminatory
measures levied against
one country will simply
create an opening for oth-
er countries to fill.
Ignoring this reality
leads to serious difficul-
ties. For example, one of
Trump’s first official acts
was to ditch the TPP, which
would have established a
free-trade area among 12
Pacific Rim countries, no-
tably excluding China.

thirsty for quite some
time now. The scarcity
and connectivity of
the water supplies was
in shambles for years
here. Such was the
situation in the region
that water scarcity
forced many people to
migrate from here.
However, with the
collaboration of the
Central and State gov-
ernments, the region
would soon see the pic-
ture change.
On Sunday, Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi and UP CM Yogi
Adityanath launched
a project worth Rs
5555 crores. While
PM Modi was present
through video confer-
encing during the
launch, CM Yogi was
present in Sonbhadra.

tion stone of rural
drinking water supply
projects in Mirzapur

gorically denied that
there is rebellion in the
party. Azad, however,
added that some lead-

Jammu: A 150-metre long underground tunnel
suspected to be used by terrorists for infiltration
was detected by the BSF at the International Border
in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba sector on Sunday,

garlanded the cow and
fed jaggery to all cows
at the place.
Tiwari also gave nec-
essary instructions re-
lated to cleanliness at
the cow shelter home.
He instructed offi-
cials to make sure that
there is no shortage of
water and fodder at any
of the cow-shelters in
the state. He said that
the funds provided by
the state government
for maintenance of pro-
tected bovine at shelter
sites should be used for
their better upkeep.

Mata’ the same glory,

Lucknow: As much as
177 lakh litres of hand
sanitizers have been
produced in Uttar
Pradesh in the last nine
months in light of the
COVID-19 pandemic,
raking in a record in-
come of Rs 137 crore, the
state Excise department
informed on Sunday.
Out of the total
amount that has been
produced, about 165.39
litres have been sold,
including 78.38 lakh li-
tres outside Uttar
Pradesh, while a total
of 87.01 lakhs have been
sold in the state.

New Delhi: On a day
when the country wit-
nessed more active Cov-
id-19 cases than recov-
eries for the first time
in 47 days, the central
government has decid-
ed to dispatch high-lev-
el teams to Uttar
Pradesh, Punjab and
Himachal Pradesh to
support them in pan-
demic response and
management.
Across the country, a
total of 45,882 new cases
were detected on Thurs-
day, slightly higher
than the 44,807 who
were declared to have
recovered.
The three states have
recently witnessed a
marked rise in the num-
ber of active coronavi-
rus cases. Earlier, simi-
lar teams were sent to
Haryana, Rajasthan,
Gujarat, Manipur and
Chhattisgarh.
“The gap between re-
covered and active cases
is steadily increasing
and presently stands at
80,80,655,” the ministry
noted. With Thursday’s
addition of nearly 46,000
new cases, the total
number of confirmed
infections in the coun-
try has crossed the 90-
lakh mark, more than

ace of fake invoices and

passing on of input tax
credit (ITC) by unscru-
pulous fraudsters, and
on the other, would en-

provided by the GST’s

refund regime, and sim-
ple self-compliance sys-
tem with little checks,
said the sources in the

(DoR).

NGT directs States/UTs to set up nodal agency
New Delhi: The NGT
directed that under the
oversight of Chief Sec-
retaries of States/UTs,
the designated nodal
agency may hold its
meeting not later than
January 31, 2021.
Noting that adequate
steps for protection of
water bodies have not
been taken, the National
Green Tribunal has di-
rected all states and Un-
ion Territories (UTs) to
designate a nodal agen-
cy for the exercise.
The NGT directed
that under the oversight
of Chief Secretaries of
States/UTs, the desig-
nated nodal agency may
hold its meeting not lat-
er than January 31, 2021,
to take stock of the situ-
ation and plan further
steps, including direc-
tions to district authori-
tiesforfurthercourseof
action. The tribunal
asked the Central Moni-
toring Committee,
formed for monitoring
remediation of 351 pol-
luted river stretches, to
monitor the steps for
restoration of water
bodies by all the states
periodically, at least
thrice in a year. “We find
that steps taken so far
can hardly be held to be
adequate. It helps not
only aesthetics but also
wateravailability,aquat-
ic life, microclimate, re-
charge of ground water
and maintaining e-flow
of the rivers.
“Under the Public
Trust Doctrine, the
State has to act as trus-
tee of the water bodies
to protect them for the
public use and enjoy-
ment for current and
future generations,”
Justice A K Goel said.
The tribunal was hear-
ing a plea filed by Hary-
ana resident Lt Col
Oberoi seeking to re-
store Ghata Lake in
Gurgaon besides resto-
ration of 214 other wa-
ter bodies and natural
channels in the district.

Dr AK Tripathi has resigned.
According to sources he
resigned due to the internal
strife at the institute. Dr
Tripathi had joined again only a
week ago after an investigation
against him absolved him. The
state government had removed
him from the post due to an
old allegation. Dr Tripathi
cited family reasons for his
resignation and is said to be
rejoining King George Medical
University (KGMU). Before
joining RMLIMS, Dr Tripathi
was HOD of the Haematology
department at KGMU.

o’clock on Sunday a
young woman resident

from her house to put it
near the field. It is al-

The accused fled after
threatening her.
The victim reached
home and informed
about the incident. On

family, Jhijhana police

A report has been filed
against the accused on
behalf of the victim,
naming them.
The police have ar-
rested the two accused.
The victim was sent for

Noida: An alleged cow
slaughterer was held af-
ter a gunfight with the
police in Noida during
which he suffered inju-
ries, officials said on
Sunday. The gunfight
took place Saturday
night near Rasoolpur
Newada village in Sec-
tor 62 under Sector 58
police station limits, the
official said.
“Accused Tahir Ali
was with his two part-
ners when they were
interceptedbythepolice
during a checking. A
gunfight broke out in
which Tahir got injured
and was held. His part-
ners managed to es-
cape,” a police spokes-
person said.
Tahir, who hails from
Sambhal but currently
lives in Ghaziabad, car-
ried a reward of Rs
25,000 on his arrest, the
spokesperson said.
The police have also
recovered an illegal
country-made pistol
along with some ammu-
nition, two chopping
knives, four syringes.

Universities, colleges in
Uttar Pradesh to reopen
from November 23
The state government
had on November 17 no-
tified the guidelines for
reopening of the univer-
sities and colleges,
which have been closed
since March in view of
the coronavirus disease
(Covid-19) pandemic.
Universities and degree
colleges across Uttar
Pradesh will reopen
from November 23, but
only with 50 per cent at-
tendance of students on
roster basis, according
to the guidelines issued
bythestategovernment.
The state government
had on November 17 no-
tified these guidelines
for reopening of the uni-
versities and colleges,
which have been closed
since March in view of
the coronavirus disease
(Covid-19) pandemic.
Addl. chief secretary,
higher education, Moni-
ka Garg, in her order
sent to all district mag-
istrates and registrars
of universities said the
higher educational in-
stitutions were to re-
sumeclassesinaphased
manner to avoid crowd-
ing on campuses.
The classes may start
with 50 per cent attend-
ance, the order said and
added that all students
have to wear mask, use
hand sanitiser and
maintain social distanc-
ing to prevent spread of

institutions must
avoid overcrowding
of students and they
may enter in a disci-
plined line. In the
classroom, students
will be required to sit

notes and laptops.
7. Universities will be

hostels where all
health protocols can

brain mapping and poly-
graph tests of the four

Hathras Police have
left for Gujarat for the
exercise, which was con-
firmed by Aligarh Dis-
trictJailjailor,PKSingh.
One of the accused is a

polygraph test at the In-
stitute of Forensic Sci-
ences in Gandhinagar.
The CBI has taken the
court’s permission for

CBI officials have taken
the four accused in the
Hathras gang-rape case
to Gujarat’s Gandhina-
gar for a polygraph and
brain mapping test.
Accused Sandeep,
Lavkush, Ravi and
Ramu have been taken
to Gandhinagar for
brain mapping and pol-
ygraph test. Although
this has no recognition
in the court of law but
the CBI will try to get to
extract more informa-
tion. It may help the
CBI to get a conviction

bitrary postings of
policemen. The DGP

The annoyed DGP

dictability and warned

Sub Inspectors instead

The letter stated
that two-third police
stations of the state,

identified for inspec-
tor-level officers, will
only deploy qualified
officers of inspector-
level. It was also said
that no Sub-Inspector
level officer will be
posted as a police of-
ficer-in-charge in
these police stations.
It was further stated
in the letter that if
more than one inspec-
tor is posted at a police
station, then it should
be kept in mind that the
most senior officer
should be made the in-
spector in charge.

stories of war and
conflict. Very sel-
dom do we see any
references to peri-
ods of peace,
which makes me
wonder if humans are by
nature a destructive spe-
cies. Politics is all about
rhetoric, opposing the oth-
er parties, and rejecting
sound proposals. Religion
too has not helped bring
peace, and I doubt it ever
will because it is man-
made. Since we are not per-
fect, religion too cannot be
and hence can be ques-
tioned.Iamnotapessimist,
neither am I an atheist.
I am a believer in the di-
vine and would like to be
regarded as a neo-realist.
The past did not belong to
me; it is not my doing. But
the present is my doing
and the future will be the
result of my doing. So I
choose to use History as a
means to learn what not to
do. And I choose to stay
clear of religion because I
have the conscience that
was gifted to me by GOD to
guide me. I do not need
man-made rules to govern
my thoughts. Let’s save
those rules for law and or-
der.
How lovely would it be if
we all thought this way? I
am not sure who reads my
articles, but I keep writing
hoping that someone does.
Silence from readers could
mean anything. I hope it
means contemplation and
the sowing of seeds of con-
science. I know we all have
it. If only we chose to love
with the same passion that
we hate, if we begin to be
selfless, if we kill our egos,
if we become one with the
divine energy that created
us we will be in a better
place.
Both hate and love are
states of being. So clearly
we need to exist in both
states. I choose to hate peo-
ple who harm animals; I
can’t tolerate stupid and
utterly selfish people, and
I pray that nature rid the
world of people who are set
to destroy it. On the other
hand, I love it! I love those
who can co-exist peaceful-
ly with nature; I am in awe
of people who spend their
life caring for other living
beings; I respect those who
reason; I love those who
love! And I absolutely dote
on animals.
Let’s pause for a second
and think. We find God in
so many forms: Idols, holy
books, houses of worship,
and even dead people.
What then is keeping us in
finding God in the living
and natural forms he has
created? Why must every-
thing we do be governed by
what is good for us? Why
can’t we use the right bal-
ance of our mind and
heart?
Earlier this year, Prime
Minister Modi entirely
shut down India in just a
matter of hours and over a
televised speech. And Indi-
ans adhered. We had to; for
us, it was a matter of life
and death. We responded
to an immediate threat.
The lockdown lasted a few
months. This Diwali many
state governments banned
fireworks. I was happy at
first to learn that this deci-
sion would bring relief to
free-roaming animals and
birds. But soon my excite-
ment died down. I was dis-
appointed to learn that this
ban was motivated by hu-
man health. Can we for
once think of other life
forms? And if humans are
all we care about, would
you change your ways if I
told you that plastic is not
just killing our cows and
planet but is also killing
us. We may have put an end
to fireworks, but we have
not yet curbed plastic. And
now all our festive decora-
tions are made of plastic
and all of it is coming
home!
Instead, the nation-wide
imposed lockdown and ban
tactics can be used to rally
people to change their be-
haviour towards nature.
What is keeping state gov-
ernment from administer-
ing hefty fines to people
who litter? What is keep-
ing them from setting
aside their political differ-
ences and come together to
clean up their country and
protect her animals? The
lack of intent and owner-
ship! There, I have laid it
all out on paper. Inaction is
due to a lack of intention,
and the absence of imme-
diate threat.
I do not want to give up
on the government. But I
also would hate to wait on
them. Here’s some food for
thought. When you suffer
from a cold or a wound,
your mother administers
her traditional natural
remedies. Funny then that
she and other ladies con-
tinue to destroy nature by
discarding household plas-
tic into the same soil that
grows those natural reme-
dies! Not being sexist here,
but we do live in India,
where the woman is still
the homemaker and has
the power to heal and de-
stroy. Let’s help our home-
makers become the keep-
ers of nature, and let’s en-
courage more love!

Trebek, who sadly died
after a long battle with
cancer at the age of 80
earlier in November, donated
62 acres of land in the Holly-
wood Hills to the city of Los
Angeles years ago in 1998. The
Trebek Open Space runs into
Runyon Canyon Park. It is de-
scribed by the Mountains Rec-
reation & Conservation author-
ity as “a sunny, well-established
network of fire roads, provid-
ing trails for hikers, mountain
bikers, and equestrians.”
The Laurel Canyon Land
Trust reminded fans of the
park with a tribute on Face-
book following the sad news of
his death. “Today Alex Trebek
passed away. Did you know that
he was a generous conserva-
tionist in addition to being a
famous game show host? He
donated 62 acres of land in the
Santa Monica Mountains in
Nichols Canyon to create the
Trebek Open Space,” they
