COMPENSATION
FIR against farmers
who abandon cattle,
warns UP Govt
Lucknow(PTI): The
govt on Monday said
FIRs under the Preven-
tion of Cruelty to Ani-
mals Act will be regis-
tered against farmers
who abandon their un-
productive cattle.
Animal Husbandry
Minister Dharampal
Singh said, “There is a
difference between ‘ka-
sai and kisan’ we will
care for the farmer, not
the butcher. FIRs will be
lodged under the pre-
vention of cruelty to
animals act against
those who set their cat-
tle free.”
He was replying to a
question by Samajwadi
Party MLA Awadhesh
Prasad in the UP As-
sembly during Ques-
tion Hour. Prasad had
sought to know the govt
plan to check the men-
ace of the stray cattle
and compensation to
those individuals who
are killed by them.
Singh said, “These
are not stray cattle but
those set free. Everyone
knows who set them
free. When a cow gives
milk, it is kept and
when it stops giving
milk it is set free.” The
minister further said
till May 15, 6,187 cow
shelters were made in
urban and rural areas
of the state and 8,38,015
cattle are kept there.
‘Govt may
form panel to
recruit health
dept staff’
Lucknow(PTI): Up
Deputy CM Brajesh
Pathak on Monday
said the govt would
consider constitut-
ing a selection com-
mission for filling
vacant posts in the
health department.
He was replying
to Samajwadi Party
member Mata Pras-
ad Pandey who
asked if the govt
would consider the
constitution of a
separate selection
commission for ap-
pointments in the
health department.
“We can consider
the constitution of
Swasthya Chayan
Ayog (selection
commission for
health depart-
ment),” Pathak,
who also holds the
health portfolio,
said in the Assem-
bly. Earlier, SP
member Manoj Ku-
mar Pandey raised
the issue of vacant
posts of dentists.
Replying to him,
Pathak said, “There
are a total 19,011
sanctioned posts of
dentists. Of these,
12,699 dentists are
occupied.” There
are no medical col-
leges in 27 districts.
the process is un-
derway to open
medical colleges
said Pathak.
Lucknow(PTI): While
the jury is still out on
Varanasi’s Gyanvapi
mosque case and on
Shahi Eidgah in Mathu-
ra, a senior UP minister
on Monday said that In-
dia became a “global
powerhouse” because
of its gods, and they are
its identity
.
He said that if any
govt, community, or or-
ganisation wants to
beautify the places as-
sociated with these
gods, then no one
should have any objec-
tions. ”Ayodhya is the
birthplaceof Lord Ram,
Mathura is birthplace
of Lord Krishna, and
Kashi was created by
Lord Shiv. It is because
of these gods that India
has its identity, and it is
because of them that
India has become a
global powerhouse
(‘vishwaguru’),” UP’s
sugarcane dev minister
Laxmi Narayan Chaud-
hary told. ‘‘Today, the
world is reading the
Gita the lesson taught
to Arjun by Lord Krish-
na. The entire world is
getting a message from
Lord Ram about how an
ideal son, an ideal hus-
band, an ideal brother,
should be’’, he said.
The minister also
said an opportunity has
now come to secure the
Indian culture, which
had been dismantled for
800-850 years.
Chaudhary refused
to comment on the on-
going Gyanvapi case in
Varanasi, and on Ma-
thura’s Shahi Eidgah
case, saying both the
matters are sub judice.
One thing I can categor-
ically say is that sur-
veys can be done for the
other places, but as far
as Mathura is con-
cerned, there is no
scope of any survey,”
Chaudhary said.
From the rival camp,
RLD chief Jayant
Chaudhary had given a
differing view on Sun-
day saying debates
such as those happen-
ing on the mosque
should not be enter-
tained in the modern
democratic India.

Rahul Gandhi: Akhilesh Yadav
Lucknow(PTI): SP
president Akhilesh Ya-
dav on Monday de-
plored the quality of
education in UP and
recounted the day he
was mistaken for Con-
gress leader Rahul Gan-
dhi by a child a school
when he was the state
chief minister. Yadav
was addressing the
state assembly during a
discussion on the state
budget.
In his address, he at-
tacked the BJP saying
that instead of “ease of
doing business”, there
was an “ease of doing
crime” in the state. UP
on education index is
fourth from the bottom.
This is the level of
education in the state
which gave so many
prime ministers, he
said, adding that even
Narendra Modi was PM
because of the state. “I
had once gone to a pri-
mary school where a
child did not recognise
me. When I asked who I
was, the child said Ra-
hul Gandhi’,” Yadav
said. When the mem-
bers in the treasury
benches laughed at this,
Yadav said, “They are

of education in the
state, but because I took

SP STAGES WALK-OUT OVER EVM ROW
SP members on Monday staged a walk-out from
the UP legislative council alleging that their party
workers are being harassed for protesting over
“unauthorised” movement of EVMs in Varanasi. In
March, SP workers had protested claiming that a
truck carrying EVMs was “intercepted” just ahead
of the counting of votes in the assembly polls. The
matter was raised during the Zero Hour through
an adjournment notice. SP leader Naresh Uttam
Patel said after the results were announced on
March 11, the police registered 2 cases against SP
workers who reportedly took part in the protest.
Govt to plant 175 cr
saplings in five years
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The UP
government has set a
target of enhancing
the state’s forest cov-
er by 15 per cent by
2030. For this, the
government has set a
target of planting 175
crore saplings in the
next five years. The
State govt has in fact
already embarked on
intensive plantation
during the rainy sea-
son since its first ten-
ure.
As a result, 101.49
crore saplings have
been planted with
the efforts of the gov-
ernment between
2017-18 and 2021-2022.
Looking at the prog-
ress year after year,
the target is bigger
and for this very rea-
son, CM Yogi wants
more and more peo-
ple to join the planta-
tion drive so much so
that it shapes up into
a mass movement.
This is the motive
behind schemes like
Navagraha Vatika,
Nakshatra Vatika,
Panchavati, Gangaa-
van, and Amritvan.
Indigenous plants
like Banyan, Peepal,
Pakad, Neem, Bael,
Amla, Mango, Jack-
fruit and Drumstick
will get preference
during the plantation
drive.
The intention of
the govt is that the
plantation during the
rainy season should
be according to the
agro-climatic zone of
the area concerned.
The minister further
said till May 15, 6,187
cow shelters were
made in urban and
rural areas of the
state and 8,38,015 cat-
tle are kept there.

However, only the

be the conditions for

The Muslim side has
argued that the plea is

After the plea was
filed, a lower court had
ordered a videographic

during the exercise.

AS ROYALS FLOUNDER,
HARDIK LEADS DEBUTANTS GUJARAT TO IPL GLORY!

emphatic win over the Ra-

title.Farfrombeingahum-
dinger as fans expected the
clash between No. 1 and 2
teams of the league, the Ti-
tans registered a one-sided
victory
, winning by 7 wick-
ets and 11 balls to spare.
Hardik Pandya, as stat-
ed, was the most influen-
tial factor in the Titans
win. Stellar all-round per-
formances supported his
superb tactics as a leader.
Sceptics abounded when
he was made captain but
he proved all of them
wrong. Hardik not only
led from the front but read
match situations astutely,
inspiring the best out of
his players. On the night
of the finals, he bowled his
full quota of 4 overs,
picked 3 wickets and con-
ceded just 17 runs. During
the chase too, when his
side was 23 for 2, Hardik
calmed the nerves with a
steady 34 runs to take his
team to a comfortable win.
Naturally
, he was present-
ed the Man of the Match
award for his remarkable
effort and leadership.
In contrast, the Ra-
jasthan Royals were play-
ing their second final but
except for winning the
toss, they did precious lit-
tle to help their cause. Roy-
als have been extremely
dependent on Jos Buttler
who has scored 4 centu-
ries in this year’s IPL
equalling Virat Kohli’s re-
cord and also won the Or-
ange cap for most runs in
this edition. Once he got
out, Rajasthan team folded
quickly for a paltry total
of 130. Their lower order
has been poor through the
season and flopped badly
in the final. The worst cul-
prit, of course, was Cap-
tain Sanju Samson who as
usual did not live up to his
batting prowess and prom-
ise. Scoring big runs con-
sistently has been an issue
for Samson for quite a
while now and his impetu-
osity proved a costly
, deci-
sive error in settling the
outcome of the final.
In their bowling depart-
ment, Trent Boult and

had no scoreboard pres-
sure, which meant they
could play out several
overs, just consolidating.
Eventually
, it was a cake-
walk for Hardik’s team as
David Miller and the calm
Shubhman Gill anchored
the side to a famous win.
Despitelosingthefinals,
Rajasthan Royals had an
encouraging year too.
Though their batting ran
out of steam in the final,
therewasmuchtoappreci-
ate in their campaign: But-
tler’s sizzling batting,
Samson’s aggressive bat-
ting and captaincy
, and the
potent bowling of Chahal,
Boult and Prasidha Krish-
na. All these promise a
Championship win for the
Royals in the near future.
Interestingly
, this year’s
IPL season saw a whop-
ping 1,062 sixes being hit
though the tournament
alsosaw107batsmenbeing
dismissed for ducks. Over-
all, the large number of
close clashes reflected how
strong the tug of war was
between the top 6 teams.
Big teams like Mumbai
and Chennai were out of
theIPLwithinnotime.But
the new entrants ensured
that the fans got to see a lot
of flair even without su-
perstars like Virat and Ro-
hit striking anything near
their peak form in this IPL
edition.
Significantly
, the season
yielded several positives
for the Indian team. A bat-
teryof pacersfromUmran
Khan to Arshdeep Singh
were tough to handle for
all batters and reflect the
depth of India’s fast bowl-
ing resources. In addition,
the comeback by Dinesh
Kartik and Hardik Pandya
are major gains. Besides
his skill as a classy All
Rounder, Hardik has quite
suddenly emerged as a ma-
ture and spontaneous cap-
tain. Besides his sound
reading of game situa-
tions and decisive moves,
Pandya revealed an intui-
tive skill to rally the boys
around him and bring out
their best. All this augurs
well for India. Many ex-
perts see shades of Warne
in him - wild and flashy in
youth, Hardik is gradually
maturing in understand-
ing the nuances of the
game which is great news
for Indian cricket!
Finally, Rajasthan may
have lost, but Gujarat win-
ning the IPL is also a ter-
rific tribute to the Aussie
legend. With their spunk
and spirit, their pluck and
panache, the Titans as a
team often reminded
cricket lovers of Warne’s
warriors who lifted the
trophy in 2008 despite be-
ing rated as one of the
weakest sides before the
inaugural IPL season! The
Titans triumph in a funda-
mental sense underlines
the glorious uncertainties
that make Cricket such an
attractive sport – and even
before IPL 2022 has ended,
fans are already yearning
for the next edition!

Dhankhar directs action against TMC MP Banerjee
Kolkata (Agencies):
West Bengal Governor

has instructed the state
chief secretary to initi-
ate action against Tri-
namool Congress Lok
Sabha MP from Dia-
mond Harbour Ab-

his anti-judiciary com-
ments on May 28.
The Governor has
asked Chief Secretary
H.K. Dwivedia to initi-
ate action and submit
all necessary updates
on this count by June 6.
“Chief secretary is
called upon to initiate
all expected action and
update by June 6, 2022
as regards public tar-
geting of judiciary by
Diamond Harbour MP
(over judiciary entrust-
ing investigation to CBI
in cases, including in
the infamous unprece-
dented SSC recruitment
scam), prominently re-
flected in credible pub-
lic domain, that can
neither be overlooked
nor countenanced,”
Dhankhar tweeted.
The governor also ob-
served that the MP’s ac-
cusing and targeting the
judiciary interferes
with the due course of
justice process and re-
flects scant respect for
the rule of law. “The ob-
vious intent of such an
attack is to browbeat the
judiciary, apart from
signaling law of ruler
and not rule of law hold-
ing the field. Such at-
tacks on judiciary are
worrisome as those

51% last year when a
brutal second wave of
Covid-19 infections over-
whelmed hospitals and
crematoriums and 62%
in 2020 when the pan-
demic started.
The people surveyed
said the government
was better prepared to

had effectively managed
the economy
. Yet there
were concerns over un-
employment staying
around 7% since the

47% of those polled say-

dress the issue.
However, there’s also
been an increase in con-
fidence in the govern-

rise from 27% in 2021
and 29% in 2020 where
there were drastic lock-

workers lose their jobs
in cities though a rural
jobs guarantee pro-

New Delhi: In Jammu
and Kashmir, it seems
that the government is
now concerned about
the safety of Kashmiri
Pandits, so it is trans-
ferring them to safer
places. Keep in mind,
recently a Kashmiri
Pandit Rahul Bhatt and
after that a large num-
ber of Kashmiri Pan-
dits took to the streets
and demonstrated de-
manding security or
transfer to Jammu.
After several days of
continuous protest, it
seems that the govern-
ment has started trans-
fers. It is being told that
Kashmiri Pandit govt
employees are being
posted to district hed-
quarters or are being
sent to near where they
live. Keep in mind that
under the Prime Minis-
ter’sRehabilitationPack-
age, Kashmiri Pandits
who returned to the Val-
ley were appointed far
and wide. Think, there is
a BJP government at the
Center for eight years,
for which Kashmir and
Kashmiri Pandits have
been a big issue.
The BJP ran the gov-
ernment in the state
along with the PDP for
many years. After that,
President’s rule has
been imposed in the
state for the last four
years. About three
years ago, the special
status of the state was
also abolished and the
state was divided. The
administration of the
state is directly in the
hands of the Union
Home Ministry
. The de-
ployment of army and
paramilitary forces is
also in large numbers.
Despite this, the gov-
ernment is not able to
provide security to
Kashmiri Pandits. The
government, which
claims to have broken
the back of terrorists, is
unable to protect Kash-
miri Pandits and is
transferring them.
Therefore, no one can
say surely if the Kash-
miri Pandits would be
safe and secured, even
after these transfers.
Is transfer of Kashmiri Pandit govt employees
the right way to provide security to them?

‘Back-channel talks on to
break deadlock with Pak’
New Delhi (Agencies):
India and Pakistan have
been engaged in “back
channel” talks in order
to break the stalemate
in the relationship be-
tween the two nuclear-
armed neighbours, a
media report said citing
official sources.
The report said that
relations between the
two countries have re-
mained strained for
years now and took a
turn for the worse in
August 2019 when India
revoked special status
of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Since then, diplo-
matic ties have been
downgraded, bilateral
trade suspended and
there has been no struc-
tured dialogue. But
even before the govern-
ment of Prime Minister
Shehbaz Sharif took
charge, the two coun-
tries were talking to
each other, albeit qui-
etly,” the report said.
INDIA-PAKISTAN BILATERAL MEETING
ON INDUS WATER TREATY BEGINS
New Delhi: A five-member delega-
tion of Pakistan is set to participate in
the 118th bilateral meeting on Indus
Water Treaty in New Delhi on Monday.
During the meeting, both sides will
deliberate on the issue of advance
flood information and the annual
report of the Permanent Commission
of Indus Waters (PCIW). There will be
talks on the sharing of flood forecast
data while the PCIW (Pakistan Com-
missioner for Indus Water) annual re-
port will also be discussed during the
negotiations. The Pakistani delegation
will not visit the under construction
Pakal Dul and Lower Kalnai dams but
those and other projects will come
under discussion. In March, India and
Pakistan had reiterated their commit-
ment to implement the Indus Waters
Treaty in its true spirit and expressed
the hope that the next meeting of the
Permanent Indus Commission would
be held at an early date in India.

Govt advises against sharing Aadhar,is a
‘great danger’ to citizen privacy on its way?
Mahesh Sharma
New Delhi: It seems
that the central govern-

over the Aadhar card.
An advisory has been is-
sued by the Central Gov-
ernment to the citizens
of the country not to
share the photocopy of
their Aadhar card with
anyone as it can be mis-
used. In the advisory is-

of the Supreme Court,
from the registration of
any scheme of the gov-

of Aadhaar were being
given.
Suddenlynowthegov-
ernment is feeling that
the photocopy of Aad-
haar should not be
shared as it can be mis-
used, a point on which
civildefenseandprivacy
activists had earlier
warned. Biometrics of
every citizen are taken
along with Aadhaar.
That’s why everyone
was apprehensive that it
might be misused. But
the government made it
mandatory to use it in
every small and big
work. As a result, till
now almost every basic
informationhasreached
many places and any
person can download e-

has been linked with
bank accounts and PAN

made mandatory for fil-

and now preparations
are on to link it with
voter card also.
The government had
encouraged people to

Prayagraj: “It is quite
unnatural that a father
in law shall commit
rape of his daughter-in-
law along with other
person in our Indian
culture,” observed Alla-
habad HC while grant-
ing pre arrest bail to a
man accused of raping
his daughter-in-law.
Granting anticipatory
bail to one Babu Khan,
Justice Ajit Singh ob-
served, “Without ex-
pressing any opinion on
the merits of the case,
considering that the ac-
cusation might have
been made falsely with
the object of injuring or
humiliating his (appli-
cant’s) reputation in
society, and also consid-
ering the apex court’s
decisions, the anticipa-
tory bail is granted”.
“In the event of ar-
rest of the applicant, he
shall be released on an-
ticipatory bail on his
fulfilling certain condi-
tions”, the court added.
The FIR was lodged
by the alleged victim
against her own father-
in-law, Babu Khan un-
der Sect 376 (rape) and
other sections of IPC at
police station - Janak-
puri of Saharanpur dis-
trict.
It was alleged that on
March 1, 2018 at about 6
pm, the applicant along
with co-accused came at
the house of victim’s
brother when she was
alone and asked the
whereabouts of her
brother. When the vic-
tim said that her broth-
er is not at home then
father-in-law of the vic-
tim started abusing her.
It was further men-
tioned that when the
victim tried to stop him
she was pushed.

Beneficiaries of govt schemes to play decisive role in return of saffron party to power
BJP initiates programmes to
strengthen chances of LS win
Gyanendra Kumar Shukla
Lucknow: To get the
desired success in the
upcoming Lok Sabha
elections, BJP strate-
gists have chalked out a
two-pronged plan. On
one hand, while the
party will promote its
strong aspects like pub-
lic welfare schemes,
good governance, de-
velopment and cultural
nationalism among the
people, on the other
hand, special attention
will be given to
strengthen those areas
and booths where the
party’s past electoral
performances have
been relatively poor.
It is worth noting
that the schemes of
free ration, free treat-
ment and cash transfer
to women and farmers
were evidently a game
changer for the BJP in
the recent assembly
polls of UP. The groups
of beneficiaries of var-
ious central and state
schemes, like PM Awas,
PM Kisan, Ujjwala,
Mudra loans, Ayush-
man Bharat, played a
decisive role in the re-
turn of the saffron par-
ty to power in UP.
Now for the Lok
Sabha elections to be
held in 2024, the party
is again going to high-
light the achievements
of the Modi govern-
ment among the com-
mon people, especially
women, farmers, de-
prived sections and
youth. For this, com-
prehensive pro-
grammes have been set
by the organisation.
For participating in
these events at the dis-
trict and tehsil level,
the responsibilities of
the office-bearers from
the top leadership to
the lower level have
been fixed. In the re-
cently concluded meet-
ing of BJP’s State
Working Committee,
party officials were in-
structed to implement
the upcoming roadmap
diligently and make or-
ganisational pro-
grammes successful in
every situation.
Along with this, BJP
is going to focus on
booths on which its per-
formance could not be
better in 2019 general
elections and the recent
polls. All the MLAs
ohave been assigned the
task of strengthening
ten booths in their re-
spective constituencies,
while each MP has been
given the responsibility
of strengthening 100
booths in their Lok
Sabha constituency
. Ac-
cording to a highly
placed source of the
BJP state organisation,
even though the party
may have won a big vic-
tory in 2022 elections, it
could get fifty seats less
than the last time.
Despite all the efforts
of the party planners,
the Akhilesh-led alli-
ance put up an exempla-
ry performance in at
least five districts mak-
ing a clean sweep over
28 seats.
Now the party think-tank
has decided that its equa-
tions should be balanced
on weak booths so that
there is no obstacle in the
target of 75 plus seats in
LS polls. There is already a
presence of party organi-
zation in 1.74 lakh booths
across UP, out of which
BJP is going to put more
effort on the weak areas
PARTY TO FOCUS
ON WEAK AREAS
For the Lok Sabha
elections, the party is
again going to highlight
the achievements of the
Modi government among
the common people, es-
pecially women, farmers,
deprived sections and
youth. For this, compre-
hensive programmes
have been set by the
organisation.

Day is cele-
brated on
May31every
year which
highlights
the threats
that parrots face in the
wild. This day was
founded by the World
Parrot Trust (WPT)
which was established
to protect parrots
through conservation
and welfare pro-
grammes. It not only in-
cludes wild parrots but
also deals with captive
parrots worldwide.
Parrotsareveryintel-
ligent birds hence they
make excellent enter-
taining pets. Apart from
this fact, there are a va-
rietyof reasonstogofor
aparrotasapet.Studies
show that parrots have
advanced abilities and
they can solve problems
and communicate well
with people. They can
even understand hu-
man-constructed aca-
demic concepts such as
mathematics, shapes
and colours because
they possess reasoning
skills equal to that of a
7-year-old child.
These are interactive
birds and can be taught
new tricks easily with-
out much grooming.
Parrots maintain
their hygiene as well as
beautyontheirownand
preen their feathers dai-
ly
. Preening is a
method that
birds use to
r e m o v e
dust, dirt
and par-

feathers.
They also
align each
featherinan
optimal po-
sition which
looks great.
They are
low mainte-
nance pets
and they eat
relatively
small por-
tions through-
out the day
. It
mightvaryfrom
parrot to parrot
but the average
diet is ¼ to ½ cup of
pellets per day which
can be combined with
fresh fruits, vegetables
and seeds.
Probablythishealthy
diet makes them live
relatively longer than
other popular pets such
as cats and dogs. You
might get a lifelong
companion which is
easy to train. They
crave attention from
their owners hence
training them is a treat.
Parrots can easily be
taught how to mimic
and identify colours.
They even catch lan-
guage and behaviours
quicker than one can
expect. They are also
verylovingandsocialby
nature. They love to
snuggleandcuddlewith
their owners. They can
even inflict self-harm if
not given proper
attention.
They are
welcomeinalltheplaces
that you visit.
They are great dance
partners and easily co-
habitatewithotherpets.
They are funny and be-
comethecentreof atten-
tion. They love to watch
TV with their owners.
They are great friends
and require a great deal
of time and attention.
TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR
PET PARROT
Parrot Housing
Proper supervision is a must for these birds with
a sealed enclosure at night so that no predator can
access it. It is always recommended to maintain the
safety of these birds. They should spend some time
out of the cage to exercise and socialize.
Choosing a Parrot Cage
The bird should be able to stretch out both wings fully
without touching either side of the cage. This ensures ad-
equate space for birds’ safety and mental health purposes.
Cages should be safe, strong and non-toxic.
Cleaning Maintenance
The food and water bowls of the bird
should be cleaned daily. Deep cleaning
of the cage should be done at least
once a week. Toys should be replaced
once they are dirty or destroyed.
Here are
some in-
teresting
facts about
parrots:
Some parrots live
for over 60 years.
Parrots in the wild
usually mate for life.
A parrot’s beak is so
strong that it can break
open a metal cage.
The largest parrot, the
kakapo, weighs up to 9
pounds and can’t fly.
In India, it’s against the
law to put parrots and other
birds in a cage.

COMPENSATION FIR against farmers who abandon cattle, warns UP Govt Lucknow(PTI): The govt on Monday said FIRs under the Preven- tion of Cruelty to Ani- mals Act will be regis- tered against farmers who abandon their un- productive cattle. Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh said, “There is a difference between ‘ka- sai and kisan’ we will care for the farmer, not the butcher. FIRs will be lodged under the pre- vention of cruelty to animals act against those who set their cat- tle free.” He was replying to a question by Samajwadi Party MLA Awadhesh Prasad in the UP As- sembly during Ques- tion Hour. Prasad had sought to know the govt plan to check the men- ace of the stray cattle and compensation to those individuals who are killed by them. Singh said, “These are not stray cattle but those set free. Everyone knows who set them free. When a cow gives milk, it is kept and when it stops giving milk it is set free.” The minister further said till May 15, 6,187 cow shelters were made in urban and rural areas of the state and 8,38,015 cattle are kept there. ‘Govt may form panel to recruit health dept staff’ Lucknow(PTI): Up Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak on Monday said the govt would consider constitut- ing a selection com- mission for filling vacant posts in the health department. He was replying to Samajwadi Party member Mata Pras- ad Pandey who asked if the govt would consider the constitution of a separate selection commission for ap- pointments in the health department. “We can consider the constitution of Swasthya Chayan Ayog (selection commission for health depart- ment),” Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio, said in the Assem- bly. Earlier, SP member Manoj Ku- mar Pandey raised the issue of vacant posts of dentists. Replying to him, Pathak said, “There are a total 19,011 sanctioned posts of dentists. Lucknow(PTI): While the jury is still out on Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque case and on Shahi Eidgah in Mathu- ra, a senior UP minister on Monday said that In- dia became a “global powerhouse” because of its gods, and they are its identity . He said that if any govt, community, or or- ganisation wants to beautify the places as- sociated with these gods, then no one should have any objec- tions. ”Ayodhya is the birthplaceof Lord Ram, Mathura is birthplace of Lord Krishna, and Kashi was created by Lord Shiv. It is because of these gods that India has its identity, and it is because of them that India has become a global powerhouse (‘vishwaguru’),” UP’s sugarcane dev minister Laxmi Narayan Chaud- hary told. ‘‘Today, the world is reading the Gita the lesson taught to Arjun by Lord Krish- na. The entire world is getting a message from Lord Ram about how an ideal son, an ideal hus- band, an ideal brother, should be’’, he said. NO COMMENTS A student once mistook me for Rahul Gandhi: Akhilesh Yadav Lucknow(PTI): SP president Akhilesh Ya- dav on Monday de- plored the quality of education in UP and recounted the day he was mistaken for Con- gress leader Rahul Gan- dhi by a child a school when he was the state chief minister. Yadav was addressing the state assembly during a discussion on the state budget. In his address, he at- tacked the BJP saying that instead of “ease of doing business”, there was an “ease of doing crime” in the state. UP on education index is fourth from the bottom. This is the level of education in the state which gave so many prime ministers, he said, adding that even Narendra Modi was PM because of the state. “I had once gone to a pri- mary school where a child did not recognise me. When I asked who I was, the child said Ra- hul Gandhi’,” Yadav said. When the mem- bers in the treasury benches laughed at this, Yadav said, “They are not sad about the level of education in the state, but because I took the name of the Con- gress leader.” Akhilesh Yadav at the nomination of RLD President Jayant Singh Chaudhary for Rajya Sabha, with the support of the Samajwadi Party, at Vidhan Bhawan in Lko on Monday. —PHOTO BY SUMIT KUMAR SP STAGES WALK-OUT OVER EVM ROW SP members on Monday staged a walk-out from the UP legislative council alleging that their party workers are being harassed for protesting over “unauthorised” movement of EVMs in Varanasi. The matter was raised during the Zero Hour through an adjournment notice. SP leader Naresh Uttam Patel said after the results were announced on March 11, the police registered 2 cases against SP workers who reportedly took part in the protest. Govt to plant 175 cr saplings in five years First India Bureau Lucknow: The UP government has set a target of enhancing the state’s forest cov- er by 15 per cent by 2030. For this, the government has set a target of planting 175 crore saplings in the next five years. As a result, 101.49 crore saplings have been planted with the efforts of the gov- ernment between 2017-18 and 2021-2022. Looking at the prog- ress year after year, the target is bigger and for this very rea- son, CM Yogi wants more and more peo- ple to join the planta- tion drive so much so that it shapes up into a mass movement. This is the motive behind schemes like Navagraha Vatika, Nakshatra Vatika, Panchavati, Gangaa- van, and Amritvan. Indigenous plants like Banyan, Peepal, Pakad, Neem, Bael, Amla, Mango, Jack- fruit and Drumstick will get preference during the plantation drive. The intention of the govt is that the plantation during the rainy season should be according to the agro-climatic zone of the area concerned. The minister further said till May 15, 6,187 cow shelters were made in urban and rural areas of the state and 8,38,015 cat- tle are kept there. Hardik Pandya, as stat- ed, was the most influen- tial factor in the Titans win. Stellar all-round per- formances supported his superb tactics as a leader. Sceptics abounded when he was made captain but he proved all of them wrong. Hardik not only led from the front but read match situations astutely, inspiring the best out of his players. On the night of the finals, he bowled his full quota of 4 overs, picked 3 wickets and con- ceded just 17 runs. During the chase too, when his side was 23 for 2, Hardik calmed the nerves with a steady 34 runs to take his team to a comfortable win. Naturally , he was present- ed the Man of the Match award for his remarkable effort and leadership. In contrast, the Ra- jasthan Royals were play- ing their second final but except for winning the toss, they did precious lit- tle to help their cause. Roy- als have been extremely dependent on Jos Buttler who has scored 4 centu- ries in this year’s IPL equalling Virat Kohli’s re- cord and also won the Or- ange cap for most runs in this edition. Once he got out, Rajasthan team folded quickly for a paltry total of 130. Their lower order has been poor through the season and flopped badly in the final. The worst cul- prit, of course, was Cap- tain Sanju Samson who as usual did not live up to his batting prowess and prom- ise. Scoring big runs con- sistently has been an issue for Samson for quite a while now and his impetu- osity proved a costly , deci- sive error in settling the outcome of the final. In their bowling depart- ment, Trent Boult and Prasidha Krishna bowled wellbutRaviAshwinhada terrible day and was taken to the cleaners by the Guja- rat batsmen. Yuzvendra Chahal, withthepurplecap for most wickets, bowled tightly giving just 20 runs andscalpingawicketinhis quotaof overs.ButGujarat had no scoreboard pres- sure, which meant they could play out several overs, just consolidating. Eventually , it was a cake- walk for Hardik’s team as David Miller and the calm Shubhman Gill anchored the side to a famous win. Despitelosingthefinals, Rajasthan Royals had an encouraging year too. Though their batting ran out of steam in the final, therewasmuchtoappreci- ate in their campaign: But- tler’s sizzling batting, Samson’s aggressive bat- ting and captaincy , and the potent bowling of Chahal, Boult and Prasidha Krish- na. All these promise a Championship win for the Royals in the near future. Interestingly , this year’s IPL season saw a whop- ping 1,062 sixes being hit though the tournament alsosaw107batsmenbeing dismissed for ducks. Over- all, the large number of close clashes reflected how strong the tug of war was between the top 6 teams. Big teams like Mumbai and Chennai were out of theIPLwithinnotime. But the new entrants ensured that the fans got to see a lot of flair even without su- perstars like Virat and Ro- hit striking anything near their peak form in this IPL edition. Significantly , the season yielded several positives for the Indian team. A bat- teryof pacersfromUmran Khan to Arshdeep Singh were tough to handle for all batters and reflect the depth of India’s fast bowl- ing resources. In addition, the comeback by Dinesh Kartik and Hardik Pandya are major gains. Besides his skill as a classy All Rounder, Hardik has quite suddenly emerged as a ma- ture and spontaneous cap- tain. Besides his sound reading of game situa- tions and decisive moves, Pandya revealed an intui- tive skill to rally the boys around him and bring out their best. All this augurs well for India. Many ex- perts see shades of Warne in him - wild and flashy in youth, Hardik is gradually maturing in understand- ing the nuances of the game which is great news for Indian cricket! Finally, Rajasthan may have lost, but Gujarat win- ning the IPL is also a ter- rific tribute to the Aussie legend. With their spunk and spirit, their pluck and panache, the Titans as a team often reminded cricket lovers of Warne’s warriors who lifted the trophy in 2008 despite be- ing rated as one of the weakest sides before the inaugural IPL season! The Titans triumph in a funda- mental sense underlines the glorious uncertainties that make Cricket such an attractive sport – and even before IPL 2022 has ended, fans are already yearning for the next edition! PM Modi’s approval ratings highest since beginning of pandemic: Survey New Delhi (Agencies): Approval ratings of Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi’s government have risen to the highest sincethestartof thepan- demic though there are lingering concerns over the surging prices of es- sential items and unem- ployment, the latest sur- vey showed on Monday . PrimeMinisterModi’s government has met or exceededexpectationsin the second term, accord- ing to 67% of 64,000 peo- ple polled by LocalCir- cles. That’s a jump from 51% last year when a brutal second wave of Covid-19 infections over- whelmed hospitals and crematoriums and 62% in 2020 when the pan- demic started. The people surveyed said the government was better prepared to handle a third wave of Covid-19 infections and had effectively managed the economy . Yet there were concerns over un- employment staying around 7% since the start of the year with 47% of those polled say- ing the government hasn’t been able to ad- dress the issue. However, there’s also been an increase in con- fidence in the govern- ment’s handling of job- lessness with 37% show- ing approval. That’s a rise from 27% in 2021 and 29% in 2020 where there were drastic lock- downs that saw migrant workers lose their jobs in cities though a rural jobs guarantee pro- gramme helped. Thegrowingapproval comes as the country’s retail inflation is track- ing an eight-year high, a politically sensitive is- sue that has seen the Narendra Modi govern- ment institute a series of measures to restrict exports of wheat and sugar and rein in any further price increases. The survey reflected the issue with 73% of Indians saying the price of essential commodi- ties and living costs haven’t fallen in the past three years, a key flash point for Prime Minister Modi who is seeking a third term in elections due in 2024. More than 50% said doing business in India has become easier. Courts will decide: Nadda on Gyanvapi New Delhi (Agencies): Underlining the BJP’s commitment to cultural development of the country , party president JP Nadda on Monday said that contentious religious matters would be decided by “courts and the Constitution” and the party would im- plement the decisions in letter and spirit. He was responding to a question on wheth- er reclaiming temples in Varanasi (Kashi) and Mathura was still on the BJP’s agenda. He said the Bharati- ya Janata Party (BJP) had passed a resolution on the Ram Janmab- hoomi issue during its national executive meeting in Palampur. “After that there has been no resolution,” he added. Reiterating the BJP’s slogan of “sabka sath, sabka vikas”, Nadda said the party wants to take everyone along with the aim of build- ing a strong nation. “Seva, sushasan and garib kalyan” are the soul of the dispensa- tion,” Nadda added. Keep in mind, recently a Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhatt and after that a large num- ber of Kashmiri Pan- dits took to the streets and demonstrated de- manding security or transfer to Jammu. After several days of continuous protest, it seems that the govern- ment has started trans- fers. It is being told that Kashmiri Pandit govt employees are being posted to district hed- quarters or are being sent to near where they live. Keep in mind that under the Prime Minis- ter’sRehabilitationPack- age, Kashmiri Pandits who returned to the Val- ley were appointed far and wide. Think, there is a BJP government at the Center for eight years, for which Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits have been a big issue. The BJP ran the gov- ernment in the state along with the PDP for many years. After that, President’s rule has been imposed in the state for the last four years. About three years ago, the special status of the state was also abolished and the state was divided. The administration of the state is directly in the hands of the Union Home Ministry . The de- ployment of army and paramilitary forces is also in large numbers. Despite this, the gov- ernment is not able to provide security to Kashmiri Pandits. The government, which claims to have broken the back of terrorists, is unable to protect Kash- miri Pandits and is transferring them. Therefore, no one can say surely if the Kash- miri Pandits would be safe and secured, even after these transfers. Is transfer of Kashmiri Pandit govt employees the right way to provide security to them? TEMPORARY MEASURE! ‘Back-channel talks on to break deadlock with Pak’ New Delhi (Agencies): India and Pakistan have been engaged in “back channel” talks in order to break the stalemate in the relationship be- tween the two nuclear- armed neighbours, a media report said citing official sources. The report said that relations between the two countries have re- mained strained for years now and took a turn for the worse in August 2019 when India revoked special status of Jammu and Kashmir. “Since then, diplo- matic ties have been downgraded, bilateral trade suspended and there has been no struc- tured dialogue. But even before the govern- ment of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took charge, the two coun- tries were talking to each other, albeit qui- etly,” the report said. INDIA-PAKISTAN BILATERAL MEETING ON INDUS WATER TREATY BEGINS New Delhi: A five-member delega- tion of Pakistan is set to participate in the 118th bilateral meeting on Indus Water Treaty in New Delhi on Monday. There will be talks on the sharing of flood forecast data while the PCIW (Pakistan Com- missioner for Indus Water) annual re- port will also be discussed during the negotiations. The Pakistani delegation will not visit the under construction Pakal Dul and Lower Kalnai dams but those and other projects will come under discussion. In March, India and Pakistan had reiterated their commit- ment to implement the Indus Waters Treaty in its true spirit and expressed the hope that the next meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission would be held at an early date in India. Another encounter begins in Valley hrs after Pulwama Op Srinagar (Agencies): An encounter broke out in the Rajpora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora. The devel- opment comes mere hours after two Jaish-e- Mohammad militants were killed in an over- night encounter in Pul- wama district. Earlier on Monday police said that two JeM militants had been shot dead in Pulwama, after the terrorists hiding in a residential building fired indiscriminately upon the search party and prompted an en- counter. According to police records, both the slain men were catego- rized terrorists and part of groups involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on police and civilian atrocities. A police spokesper- son also said that one of the terrorists had been involved in the killing of police constable Reyaz Ahmad earlier this month. 1993 Mumbai blasts case: 4 accused sent to judicial custody One labourer dead, 4 hurt in suspected IED blast in Manipur WBSSC scam: ED to quiz suspects on assets details Mumbai (PTI): A spe- cial CBI court here on Monday remanded four persons, arrested from Gujarat earlier this month in the 1993 Mum- bai serial blasts case, to judicial custody for 14 days. On one hand, while the party will promote its strong aspects like pub- lic welfare schemes, good governance, de- velopment and cultural nationalism among the people, on the other hand, special attention will be given to strengthen those areas and booths where the party’s past electoral performances have been relatively poor. It is worth noting that the schemes of free ration, free treat- ment and cash transfer to women and farmers were evidently a game changer for the BJP in the recent assembly polls of UP. The groups of beneficiaries of var- ious central and state schemes, like PM Awas, PM Kisan, Ujjwala, Mudra loans, Ayush- man Bharat, played a decisive role in the re- turn of the saffron par- ty to power in UP. Now for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024, the party is again going to high- light the achievements of the Modi govern- ment among the com- mon people, especially women, farmers, de- prived sections and youth. For this, com- prehensive pro- grammes have been set by the organisation. For participating in these events at the dis- trict and tehsil level, the responsibilities of the office-bearers from the top leadership to the lower level have been fixed. In the re- cently concluded meet- ing of BJP’s State Working Committee, party officials were in- structed to implement the upcoming roadmap diligently and make or- ganisational pro- grammes successful in every situation. Along with this, BJP is going to focus on booths on which its per- formance could not be better in 2019 general elections and the recent polls. All the MLAs ohave been assigned the task of strengthening ten booths in their re- spective constituencies, while each MP has been given the responsibility of strengthening 100 booths in their Lok Sabha constituency . Ac- cording to a highly placed source of the BJP state organisation, even though the party may have won a big vic- tory in 2022 elections, it could get fifty seats less than the last time. Despite all the efforts of the party planners, the Akhilesh-led alli- ance put up an exempla- ry performance in at least five districts mak- ing a clean sweep over 28 seats.
