Why	Insurance	brands	should	use	social	Media.	
According	to	a	survey	conducted	in	2015,	60	%	of	Irish	people	have	a	Facebook	
account,	with	72	%	of	users	checking	the	site	daily.	Twitter	is	the	second	biggest	social	
network,	28	%	of	Irish	people	have	accounts.	LinkedIn	coming	in	as	the	third	most	
popular	used	by	24	%	of	Irish	people.	Source;	(IPOS	MRBI	2015).	
Business	to	business	statistics	are	a	little	higher	with	as	much	as	70%	of	businesses	
using	Facebook,	61%	using	twitter	and	LinkedIn	and	44%	using	You	Tube.	This	is	good	
news	for	companies	advertising	business-to-business	insurance	products.	Source;

Social	media	is	no	longer	a	‘fad’;	it	is	a	credible	marketing	channel.	Marketers	could	
argue,	that	in	order	to	be	viewed	as	a	reputable	company	your	brand	needs	to	be	
engaging	with	customers	on	social	media.	
According	to	"Forbes	magazine"	social	media	may	enhance	your	overall	Google	
rankings	by	utilising	key	words	and	links	to	your	website	making	your	brand	more	
relevant	to	searches.	
People	love	to	deal	with	humans.	Social	media	makes	your	brand	human,	interacting	
with	your	customers	as	a	person;	your	brand	becomes	more	than	just	another	logo.	
	How	can	social	media	benefit	the	insurance	industry?	
When	considering	how	insurance	services	communicate	with	customers.	A	Renewal	
notice	or	statement	is	issued	to	customers	at	least	once	a	year.	This	is	the	ideal	
opportunity	to	reinforce	customer	loyalty,	market	new	products	and	invite	clients	to	
renew	their	policies.	
Due	to	regulatory	requirements	the	name	of	insurers	must	be	visible	in	the	clients	
renewal	pack.	The	main	issue	here	is	that	by	placing	the	logo	and	branding	of	the	
insurer	on	customers	documentation	can	dilute	the	brand	of	the	intermediary.
